Avoid This Place At All Costs! It is Uninhabitable!

    rating30 Apr 2023

During my 30-plus years as a soldier and law enforcement officer, I have been inside truly horrible dwellings and hotel/motel rooms, including in a number of war-torn third-world countries. Yet this establishment is now tied with a motel in Baltimore for the title of "Worst Lodging I've Ever Seen"! I was part of a security team working 11 days at Augusta National Golf Club for the Masters and associated events. The company I was working for provided lodging for out of town officers, and my teammates and I were billeted at the Suburban Extended Stay Hotel. After completing in-processing at the company office, we drove a short distance to this place and checked in. A very nice woman named Tay checked us in and assigned us our rooms on the third floor. Upon driving the rental car around back, I first thought I was back in the suburbs of Baghdad. Debris littered the parking lot and breezeways, sketchy characters were hanging around, giving us the evil eye, and it just got worse from there. Climbing the corroded metal stairs, I noted that the window screens on at least half the rooms on this side of the building were torn and hanging out from their frames. Unoccupied rooms had open doors. Made it to our teammate's room, and they held up a towel covered with the corpses of crushed cockroaches that they had dispatched in the first 30 seconds of occupying their room. Got to our room, observed that the door had a 3/4 inch gap at the bottom. Opening the door, the funk of body odor and embedded cigarette smoke caused my lungs to spasm, and I began to cough uncontrollably. (My lungs were damaged by prolonged exposure to toxic chemical smoke in Iraq.) Not only was there our own stable of cockroaches gamboling about the floor and counters, but the visible coating of mildew I could see in the bathroom led me to fear that there might very well be a decomposing body residing in the tub. (But to be honest, although the room stunk, it didn't stink like a dead person does, so that was a plus.) I'd seen enough. I drove back to the company office, and explained to the boss that this lodging was a no-go. He was kind enough to billet me and my teammate at another establishment, which although was a half-hour drive from our worksite, it was well worth losing the extra 30 minutes of sleep! (By the way, the other two guys from our team who had slaughtered the herd of roaches ended up staying there, because they are both heavy smokers, so they wouldn't have to leave their room to light up, plus they wanted the extra half hour of sleep. Of course, they were disappointed when we told them that our new hotel served a really good breakfast every morning...which isn't offered at the Suburban Extended Stay Hotel...unless you like microwaved roaches with your coffee!)When I handed back the room keys to Tay, she remained very polite and sympathetic...She clearly deserves to work at a much nicer hotel!

The Absolutely WORST Hotel I’ve Ever Seen.

    rating11 Apr 2023

I was assigned this hotel by the company I worked for at the Masters golf tournament. After checking in, I went up to my room on the third floor, noting that the door had a half inch wide gap between the door frame. Upon entering the room, I was greeted by the overpowering stench of stale cigarette smoke. It was so strong that my lungs clenched and I began coughing. (My pulmonary system was damaged by exposure to Burn Pit smoke while I was deployed to Iraq.) Holding my breath, I poked my head into the room. It was filthy and in complete disrepair. Mold/mildew covered the shower and curtain, floor was stained and sticky, pillowcases were stained, and a pair of roaches scuttled under the bed. Didn’t bring my luggage in the room, just went back down to the lobby and checked out. It wasn’t just my room that was uninhabitable; the entire hotel was the worst lodging establishment I have ever seen. (That’s saying something, because I have served in war zones, disaster stricken areas, and crime ridden communities in the United States and internationally.)The desk clerk, Tay, was the lone bright spot; she was very apologetic and helpful. She deserves to work at a decent establishment! DO NOT GO NEAR THIS ESTABLISHMENT!

Masters Week - So disgusting I'm surprised they have ANY patrons. Avoid at all costs and if you do, bring roach killer

    rating09 Apr 2023

We arrived Friday at 1:30pm. Room is not ready, it is being "cleaned" and should be ready by 3pm. We had meetings we had to attend and left and returned at 8:30pm. Upon returning, we could tell there was a delay. Overhearing another man entering HIS room, and another man is in there in his underwear because its "his" room. We get our keys and go to the room to find a "non-smoking" room smelling as if a carton of cigarettes were smoked in them. Pics will show ashes on the night stand lamp proving it was smoked in. There was an employee repairing blinds as we entered them room as it didn't have them and the sheets/comforter were not put on yet. Had to ask for toilet paper. Bath towel rack was broken and parts in the closet shelf. Handle to the bathroom faucet comes off. Door to fridge broken. No remote to the TV. Employee said he'd bring one and never did. A light across mirror in bathroom was out so only light was vent light. The microwave, in short, was disgusting (pic included). I haven't even gotten to the cockroaches yet. Big, small, you name it. Roommate on phone call with friends while lying on bed just watched a big one going back and forth on the fridge. Using bathroom, see little ones walking around. I read where a lot of hotels (since Covid) were being used to house the homeless. I get it, but when you have patrons with an expectation of a clean room that would meet minimum health/sanitary requirements and functioning equipment and they don't even get that....it's a serious problem.

    Mold and "sketchy" activity

    rating14 Aug 2022

I was trying to save on my expense account so I tried The Extended Stay by Choice Hotels for a 7-day stay checking in on a Friday. I checked in and went to the room, quite apprehensively, due to undesirables lingering in front. I washed my hands and immediately my eyes began to tear and my nose began to run. I looked up and the ceiling was infested with mold. I knew I couldn't stay due to a health hazard so I drug my suitcase back down the steps to tell them I couldn't stay but I encountered a group who made me feel unsafe, so I left and went to another hotel. Once I was safe, I called the Extended Stay and was told to call back Monday for a manager. On Monday, during the day, of course, I drove back and asked for a refund since I didn't use the room. She said, "no, you signed a paper and there are no refunds". I explained the reason I didn't check out was due to undesirables blocking my route to the office (to check out), after only being in the room for 5 minutes. The manager checked to verify the room was not used but wouldn't refund the money for the 3 days because she said I didn't check out immediately. Obviously, I couldn't check out right away because I was too afraid to approach the office due to a group of "salesmen" outside staring at me and creating a lot of fear. Unless you like mold poisoning and the possibility of being stabbed or shot on your way to the room, please go elsewhere. The low rate is not worth your health or life. Also, don't expect any help from Choice Hotels, my pleas to them were worthless, and they did nothing to help.

    Badly ran and maintained hotel

    rating17 Dec 2021

I booked my 9day stay on my choice hotel app and booked for a price of $511. When I checked in to the hotel I was charged $547. I wasn't told the price and only found out the next day after checking my bank app. I went to the office to inform them I was over charged and told I would have to come back the next day to talk to the GM about the over charge. I came back the next day and talked to Inez Luke(the GM) and was told there was an additional $5 a day tax. I asked " Why was I not told about this additional $45 charge" and was told that choice hotels messed up on my booking and they don't update the way they are suppose to. I left and called choice to explain the situation and was told by choice that the price they were given was from suburban and they would have to reimburse me the over charge. I go back to the office to tell Inez what choice told me, she called her boss to explain the situation but he would have to call her back the next day and she would call me back and let me know something. I have received no call back and am still out of the additional $45.
