    Basic hotel

    rating21 Jun 2025

A very basic hotel. The room we had was fair size but needed maintenance. There were signs of damp, rust noted from the door arm, the safe is not working ( which I did report) and also battery on the remote for the television has also run out. On our first day, the quilt cover had two stained spots but luckily the bedsheets are changed daily

A solid 3 stars in Ipoh -- well located for the night market.

    rating06 Apr 2025

The hotel is fairly basic. The reception area is rather cluttered with various posters and items for sale. My room was comfortable and was painted all white with all black wooden furniture: a double bed, two side tables, a desk, a chair, and an open closet with clothes rack. The TV remote didn't work, probably because the batteries were flat, and the room safe didn't work either, probably for the same reason. There is a kettle with sachets of coffee, but the coffee is that 3-in-1 mix of nescafe, sugar, and creamer which is dreaded by the majority of coffee drinkers who don't take milk, or sugar, or both. The bathroom has good water pressure and the usual toiletries in this part of the world -- soap, shampoo, and toothbrush with toothpaste. For tourists, the main virtue of the hotel is its location, just a couple of block from the night market and a variety of Chinese restaurants.

Unrecovered deposit, noisy room, cigarette smell, grey towels and bedding.

    rating12 Dec 2022

In my haste, I forgot to pick up my holding deposit on departure (granted it was only a small amount) and I always maintained I do not want it back but do put it towards the upgrading of their towels and bedding - which have seen better days,My first two emails were ignored, a simple acknowledgement would suffice, instead, there were loads of excuses and denials - for a start a receipt was never issued that the deposit was refunded. It only makes one to conclude that perhaps someone allegedly misappropriated this money, that’s why it did not show up on the system at the end of the day.The towels and bedding are positively grey in colour and it is high time that these are replaced with new ones. The windows (one without handle, cannot be shut at all) to the front of the hotel are not double glazed so it is very noisy being situated on the main road and facing a junction. The smell of cigarettes smoke came through, not sure either from the air conditioning vent or from the windows, but we had to sleep with our masks on!Ipoh Downtown Hotel - you only had to acknowledge my email and say ‘thank you for your contribution and feed back’.

    Good value

    rating21 Aug 2022

Quiet hotel with extremely friendly and helpful reception staff. We had a twin room which was quite spacious. Very clean and comfortable. Good hot shower. Free parking below. Within walking distance to Ipoh Parade Mall and also old town is 1km away. A walkable distance too to see the old Colonial buildings and Concubine Lane. Hawkers centre and coin laundry opposite. Very good value for the price paid. Highly recommended.

Good location and rates are reasonable!

A clean city hotel with no frills and nice thing was, the hotel had five free parking bays in a side lane next to it. We stayed a night and it was easy to walk to nearby restaurants for dinner. In the morning we walked again for a few meters to get hot noodles and local coffee and also got the famous Lim Kheng Aun salted chickens home. Hotel was clean and comfortable with instant coffee and an electrical kettle to boil water. Two bottles of drinking water were also provided.
