Good value for money but such thin curtains. Daylight woke me up well before 5:00am!

    rating04 May 2026

I booked direct with the hotel and my room with breakfast was under £50 per night which was great value. Location is fab, right in the heart of the Old Town with the city walks just metres away, but close enough to public transport and taxis etc. As per other reviews, reception staff were not that friendly – it was pouring with rain when I arrived but check-in was a strict 3 pm so a lot of wet waiting around. Room was dated but clean. It overlooked the front of the hotel – car park but with a nice skyline. Two gripes: such thin curtains! They were a pale yellow with no blackout and the sun/daylight woke me up at 4:45 am. Breakfast was simple but no fresh bread – just prepackaged sliced stuff. Front Office, Guest Services / Front Office at Rixwell Viru Square Hotel, responded to this review Dear 888travel,Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback following your stay at Rixwell Viru Square Hotel. We are pleased to know that you found good value for money, appreciated our central location in the Old Town, and that the room was clean. It is also good to hear that the surrounding transport connections were convenient for your stay.At the same time, we are truly sorry to learn that several aspects did not meet your expectations. Please accept our sincere apologies regarding the early morning light due to the curtains, as well as your experience at check-in and the impression of service at reception. We fully understand how uncomfortable it must have been to wait during poor weather conditions, and we regret that this left a negative impression. We also appreciate your comments regarding the room condition and breakfast selection. Your feedback about the lack of fresh bread and overall variety is very valuable to us, as it helps us better understand where improvements are needed.Thank you again for your honest and constructive feedback. We truly appreciate you bringing these matters to our attention and hope to have the opportunity to provide you with a more comfortable experience in the future.Kind regards,Anne-Lilian-Erika SeppFront Office ManagerRixwell Viru Square Hotel

Perfect base to explore the old town

    rating19 Mar 2026

Perfect location for a long weekend in the old town. Just back from 3 nights in Tallinn with my daughter and really cant fault the hotel. It's right beside the city walls and a two minute walk to the airport bus. We stayed in a suite and it was more then big enough, room was clean and comfortable (they were replacing all the hotel beds and mattress on the first night so it looks like all new beds march 2026) Breakfast was small but enough, had plenty of bread and cold cuts and cereal with a small selection of hot food. Bacon, sausage, pancakes, beans, eggs, meatballs, seems to change each day. There is a little noise at night from clubs/pubs/people passing outside but it's not bad, it's just city noise. You are inside the old town walls with the hotel that is the main reason to stay here, everything is a short walk away or close to public transport for people with walking difficulties. All the staff we encountered were very helpful and polite. Front Office, Guest Services / Front Office at Rixwell Viru Square Hotel, responded to this review Dear Sean_Hennessy,Thank you very much for taking the time to share such a detailed and thoughtful review following your stay at Rixwell Viru Square Hotel. We are truly delighted to read that you had an enjoyable stay with your daughter and found our hotel to be a perfect base for exploring Tallinn’s Old Town. It is wonderful to know that you appreciated our excellent location by the city walls, the convenient access to public transport, and the comfort and cleanliness of your suite. We are also pleased that our breakfast selection met your expectations and that you found our team helpful and polite throughout your visit.Thank you as well for mentioning the city atmosphere around the hotel. As we are located in the heart of the Old Town, some evening sounds from nearby streets and venues may occasionally be noticeable, but we are glad to know that this did not significantly affect your overall experience. We also appreciate your note regarding the bed replacement project, as guest comfort remains very important to us.Your kind and balanced feedback means a great deal to our team. We sincerely hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you and your daughter back again in the future for another pleasant stay in Tallinn.Kind regards,Anne-Lilian-Erika SeppFront Office ManagerRixwell Viru Square Hotel

    Room with sauna

    rating28 Feb 2026

I wrote down 1 wide double bed as a wish in the selection. Unfortunately, there were still 2 single beds in the room. I was little disappointed. That was the only big minus. The location is very good. It is very convenient to get there by public transport. You shouldn't expect complete silence, the old town is right there but I slept well.I still recommend it. Front O, at Rixwell Viru Square Hotel, responded to this review Dear Maare T,Thank you for choosing Rixwell Viru Square Hotel and for sharing your detailed feedback. We are delighted to hear that you appreciated our excellent location and the convenient access by public transport. It is also wonderful to know that despite being in the heart of the Old Town, you slept well and would still recommend us — that truly means a lot.At the same time, we sincerely apologize that your request for one wide double bed was not fulfilled and that you found two single beds in the room upon arrival. We understand how important bed preferences are for a comfortable stay, and we regret the disappointment this caused. While specific bed types are subject to availability, we always do our best to accommodate our guests’ wishes, and we are sorry that we fell short in this instance.Thank you once again for your kind recommendation and constructive feedback. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the future and providing an even more seamless experience.Kind regards,Anne-Lilian-Erika SeppFront Office ManagerRixwell Viru Square Hotel

    Nothing special

    rating12 Feb 2026

The hotel is in a great location, right in the heart of Tallinn. The surroundings are beautiful, and it's great that you can park your car right by the hotel. I was disappointed with my room. When I opened the curtains, I was faced with a view of a concrete wall. Through the window, all I could see was more garbage bins under the windows. The hotel staff were very cold and emotionless. The reception staff would occasionally disappear without informing when they would return. When I was checking out, I waited about 30 minutes to return the key card and request the bill. Front Office, Guest Services / Front Office at Rixwell Viru Square Hotel, responded to this review Dear Maris,Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback following your stay at Rixwell Viru Square Hotel. We are pleased to hear that you appreciated our central location in the heart of Tallinn, the beautiful surroundings, and the convenience of parking directly by the hotel. At the same time, we are sincerely sorry to learn that your overall experience did not meet your expectations. We regret that the view from your room was disappointing. While some of our rooms face the inner courtyard, we fully understand how important a pleasant view can be for our guests’ comfort. Please note that for future stays, you are always welcome to contact us in advance regarding room preferences, and we will do our best to accommodate them subject to availability. We are especially concerned to read your comments about the service at reception. Professional, attentive, and welcoming service is a priority for us, and we sincerely apologize if the attitude of our staff felt cold or if you experienced an unacceptable waiting time during check-out. Waiting 30 minutes to return a key card and receive an invoice is certainly not the standard we aim to provide. Your feedback has been shared with the team so that we can address these issues and improve our service procedures.Thank you once again for your honest comments. We truly value your feedback and hope to have the opportunity to provide you with a much more positive experience in the future.Kind regards,Anne-Lilian-Erika SeppFront Office ManagerRixwell Viru Square Hotel

Terrible and subpar experience for the cost

    rating22 Jan 2026

My stay at Rixwell Square Hotel from January 14 through January 22 fell significantly below acceptable hospitality standards. Based on the cumulative issues outlined below, this property does not merit more than a one-star rating.1. Condition and FacilitiesThe hotel is severely outdated. Guest rooms lack modern amenities, including basic smart appliances that are now standard even in budget accommodations. The carpeting throughout the room was heavily stained and emitted a persistent cigarette odor, suggesting long-standing neglect rather than temporary wear. The overall condition created an unhygienic and uncomfortable environment.2. Breakfast QualityThe included breakfast was of notably poor quality, both in taste and selection. Options were extremely limited and unappetizing. It is worth noting that significantly better breakfast options are available within a short walking distance of the hotel, making the hotel’s offering unnecessary and disappointing.3. Housekeeping FailuresHousekeeping service was inconsistent and inadequate. Despite properly placing the “please clean” door hanger, my room was not serviced appropriately. On multiple occasions, the bed was not made and toiletries were not replenished. After raising the issue with reception and observing the housekeeping process directly, I noted that no cleaning supplies were used during the so-called room refresh, raising serious concerns about cleanliness and hygiene standards.4. Staff ConductCertain staff interactions were unprofessional and discourteous. As a paying guest, I did not feel treated with the basic level of respect expected in any hospitality setting. The nature of these interactions left me feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome during my stay.5. Safety and Guest SupportMost concerning was a serious safety issue: the hotel failed to assist or intervene when I was assaulted by a food delivery driver on hotel premises. Staff refused to provide meaningful help or support following the incident. This lack of response represents a fundamental failure in guest duty of care and raises serious concerns about the hotel’s commitment to guest safety.ConclusionGiven the outdated and unsanitary conditions, poor food quality, inadequate housekeeping, unprofessional staff behavior, and alarming lack of concern for guest safety, I strongly recommend that travelers choose alternative accommodations. There are far better options available, particularly within Old Town, that offer higher standards of comfort, professionalism, and security. Front Office, Guest Services / Front Office at Rixwell Viru Square Hotel, responded to this review Dear Aaron,Thank you for taking the time to provide such detailed feedback regarding your stay with us from January 14 to January 22. We sincerely regret that your experience did not meet your expectations and apologize for the dissatisfaction you encountered. We are truly concerned by the points you raised regarding the condition of the facilities, housekeeping consistency, breakfast quality, and staff interactions. This is not the level of service or comfort we strive to offer our guests. Your comments have been shared with our management and relevant departments so these matters can be carefully reviewed and addressed. We are especially sorry to read about the incident involving a third-party delivery driver and your feeling that adequate support was not provided. Guest safety and well-being are of utmost importance to us, and we take such concerns very seriously. This matter is being reviewed internally to ensure appropriate procedures are reinforced. We appreciate your honest feedback, as it helps us identify areas where improvements are clearly needed. While we regret that we did not provide you with a positive experience on this occasion, we thank you for bringing these issues to our attention.Kind regards,Anne-Lilian-Erika SeppFront Office ManagerRixwell Square Hotel
