Location

The hotel is conveniently located adjacent to one of the town's best shopping centres, while many businesses and tourist sights are within walking distance. It is a 10-minute drive to the centre of Georgetown, a 15-minute drive to the tourism centre of Khoo Kongsi and a 25-minute drive to the beach at Batu Ferringhi. The hotel is also 20 minutes from Penang International Airport.

Facility

443 non-smoking rooms are located on 17 storeys and can be reached by lift. The reception desk is open round the clock. Amenities include a baggage storage service, safe, currency exchange service and drinks machine. Wireless internet access is provided in public areas. The tour desk offers assistance with booking excursions. The hotel offers various facilities for guests with disabilities. Wheelchair-accessible facilities are available. There are also a number of shops that make for great strolling and browsing. The grounds of the hotel feature a playground and a lovely garden. Additional amenities include a TV room and a playroom. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the garage or in the car park. Rooms

    This hotel is more geared for bus loads of tourists and not really for family. It’s very chaotic.

    Told the front desk that the toilets were not flushing right but no one fixed it.The front desk ladies were rude and not willing to help. I feel this hotel caters to bus loads of tourists and not members of shangri la members. They are sure not like the Rasa staff.It’s ashamed this is part of the Shangri la group.

    Stayed here for the first time recently for 6 nights at the end of our Thailand / Penang trip. We were happy with the standard of accommodation and the services provided but felt we didn't take full advantage of the whole Georgetown experience due to the hotel being so welcoming.Let me try to explain.When you are in Georgetown, a main highlight is the street food and markets. If you have breakfast at the hotel as well as evening canapes (Club Lounge), then this reduces your outside dining opportunities by half. (Assuming you try to fit in 4 meals per day as we do when in Penang). This is not necessarily the Hotel JEN's fault - it's just that the quality of the food at the hotel is so good, you don't really need to go outside to eat. Check-in was quick, with our room ready at 2:00pm.The rooms at the club floor appear to have had a spruce up in the past few years and were well kept by the housekeeping staff. They were an average size and the air con worked well. Being on the 16th floor meant we had a great view over the old city.Breakfast offered a good selection of food, but I don't think it had the range I was expecting due to the smallish size of the area. They offered local treats - street food style every morning as well. Breakfast was also available in the Club Lounge which offered a larger selection than what I expected. Staff were uniformly excellent, particularly in the Club Lounge where we were well looked after by Eja, Wan, William & Rachel.There was only 1 pool area and to be honest it could be jazzed up a bit with some more potted trees and shady areas.The evening cocktails and canapes start at 5, however make sure you are there 5 minutes early to guarantee yourself a good seat. These were a very welcome time for relaxation following a busy day in Georgetown and mixing with fellow travelers.The main foyer is a great area to get together with friends and enjoy a drink - they even have live music some nights. The hotels is well located in the Komtar area, with great eating options close by.The hotel offers 80% of the E&O experience at 50% of the price. In that way it provides great value. If the pool area was more inviting, a stocked mini bar and breakfast more comprehensive, it could well be a 5 star experience.

    Was in Penang for a gathering and stayed at the Jen Hotel in Penang. Booked a club floor room with lounge access. Rooms came with a view of the sea but is a little dated. Toilet had a bit of smell which couldn’t be removed. Water pressure was also low. But otherwise, stay was comfortable.

    I really loved my stay in this hotel on my tour of Malaysia. The room was so comfortable and the location was perfect. The staff at breakfast were so helpful and welcoming, especially A.Subbiah and his team. He suggested foods for me to try which I loved, and really went the extra mile.
