  Perfect holiday

  We’ve been travelling to the Maldives for many years, visiting different atolls and different islands always booking our trips through Angelfish Travel a small friendly team who always go that extra mile to make your holiday fabulous.This was our second visit to Kudafushi in the last 8 months, which is a beautiful, well-maintained island. The whole team on the island are friendly and helpful and we’d like to thank every member of staff for their hospitality and kindness.The housekeeping in our villa (214) was really excellent, kept spotlessly clean by Zihann, thank you.The food in the restaurant is very good and varied. With daily changing theme nights and live cooking at every meal, everything is fresh and delicious. The selection of fruit, desserts, ice-cream and sorbet was also very good. Service in the restaurant was always prompt from the wonderful staff and they soon knew what our preferences were before we’d even asked them! Thanks to Ibrahim, Azeej and Shazeen, unfortunately we couldn’t remember everyone’s name but they all are friendly and professional.We enjoyed unwinding with drinks at the JuJu bar, where the staff there are always friendly and welcoming, again they soon knew what our preferences were. Thanks to Kato, who always took time to chat to us; Samey, who always appeared with our tea at lunchtime without us asking for it and also for your lovely parting gift which is proudly on display in our home; Aiham, who made us some lovely origami gifts – sadly they didn’t survive the journey home; Nimaal and Nilam.Finally, a special mention to Luise for her care, attention and kindness, we really appreciated everything she did to ensure that our holiday was special, enjoyable and relaxing. We thoroughly enjoyed the time she spent with us throughout our stay, even taking time out of her own personal time to spend it with us.   What took you so long, Belinda..?

  We live in an age when people can’t be bothered to read. Everything has to be quick, punchy, informational fast food. Some people only read abstracts or summaries. For all of you, here’s the short version: after all these years, I never realised that Belinda Carlisle, singing “Heaven is a Place on Earth,” had Kudafushi Resort in mind. Now you don’t have to read any further.For those who want the details, however, read on. The resort sits on a tiny island in Raa Atoll. I can't imagine getting there any other way than by seaplane — which is, incidentally, a spectacular journey that gives you your first real sense of what the Maldives actually are. The views on a clear day are breathtaking. The trip to the resort turned out to be a bonus attraction in its own right.Before describing what the resort is, let me start with what it isn't. Despite its five stars, it is not a puffed-up, show-off kind of place dripping with gold, kitsch, designer furniture or crowds of silicone-enhanced lovelies. It is, however, everything else you could possibly want from life when travelling to islands just south of the equator.The PeopleWhen I was looking for somewhere my wife and I could spend a short May holiday, the Maldives ranked high on the list. Plenty of recommendations from friends, plenty of information online. What struck me was how nearly everyone, when writing up their impressions of a Maldives stay, would eagerly name specific members of staff they'd met. It seemed odd to me — a little contrived, somehow pointless. After nine days here, I understand it perfectly.I don't know whether it's the climate, the atmosphere, the culture — probably a bit of everything. But these people are impossible to forget, and equally impossible to leave out. It's remarkable how they manage, in such an unobtrusive, discreet and courteous way, to do everything in their power to make you feel special. They pick up your name, your habits, your preferences at the restaurant or the bar almost instantly. That quickly dissolves every barrier, and you feel as though you're among friends. Most importantly, every gesture, every act of service looks as though it genuinely gives them pleasure. It's all natural, sincere, simply authentic. So I'll join the trend and thank a few particular people. I can't thank everyone — I don't remember all the names or job titles — but every single member of staff was wonderful.Nico — our host from Russia. At first, an enormous source of bewilderment, because there is something deeply ironic about a Russian looking after Poles right now. But he turned out to be a genuinely kind young man, a victim of a certain system. Thank you, Nikita!Samatu, Mooth — two gentlemen from the restaurant. Class, perfection, courtesy, respect.Nitu — vast knowledge and experience. You could happily fall ill here.Malit — master of the grill. Mizzan — wizard of the pasta corner.Afraah — thanks to him, every single day in our overwater villa felt like we'd just checked in.Dario — a remarkable man of a certain age who graces guests' evenings with his extraordinary voice. His repertoire ranges from Celine Dion through Rihanna to Louis Armstrong. If I had a voice like that, I'd be in a very different place in life. Perhaps it's just as well I don't.The Dive CentreThis deserves a paragraph of its own. We chose this resort because of the reef that surrounds it. It's beautiful, though sadly dying in places. The snorkelling conditions are excellent — you can spend hours without getting bored, marvelling at the abundance of reef life right along the shoreline. For divers, there are two organised trips to dive sites each day. The overall level of organisation is very high and the experience is fantastic. The dive centre staff are a story unto themselves:Marco. The Boss. According to my wife, one of the most professional divers she has ever dived with. He does, however, have a rather startling visual impairment — underwater, he can only see objects smaller than ten millimetres.Julia — a fine proof that even a native speaker of German can have a sense of humour, be warm, empathetic and genuinely friendly.And finally, her. Marta — Regina dell'Oceano. The First. (F)orever (I)n (M)y (M)ind.Everything ElseThere's little point in repeating descriptions of the rooms, the facilities and so on — all of that can be found on their website and in other reviews, and it's all accurate. The one thing I would highlight is that the overwater villas offer a higher degree of privacy and are somewhat more secluded. The layout of the resort and its overall capacity are very well judged. Even at 75% occupancy, the place feels pleasantly unhurried. When a fair number of guests departed at the end of April, that sense deepened considerably. Most guests are Italian or German-speaking, with a cluster of people from east of Poland and a handful of other nationalities.The food is absolutely top-notch. The resort is run by Italians — which should, in itself, be recommendation enough. The range is enormous; sampling everything would take three weeks. You could easily maintain several different diets here. There's an excellent selection of cocktails and very accommodating bartenders who are happy to tweak recipes to suit your tastes. The cleanliness of the entire property is exceptionally high. On top of all that, there are countless activities on offer — more than you could ever fit into a single stay.So that this doesn't read like a sponsored post (it isn't!), two things I'd ask them to improve: heavier dumbbells in the gym, and more fans in the restaurant.Thank you, Kudafushi, for an extraordinary time.   I spent 8 magical days at Kudafushi, and it was one of those rare places where reality not only meets expectations - but exceeds them.Honestly, I don’t understand the complaints about the food. Everything is fresh, delicious, and the restaurants are impeccably clean. Every day there’s fresh fish, meat, and poultry cooked right in front of you. And the ice cream - they make it themselves, incredible gelato and sorbets. Even the water tastes great - it’s regularly tested, and you can really feel the quality.The island itself is quite compact - you can walk around it in about 20 minutes. It’s very green, peaceful, and has a perfect sense of calm. I first stayed on the northeast side - the villas there are right by the water, and it truly feels like you’re living on the ocean. But if sunbathing is important to you, keep in mind that the beach in front of the villa can be quite small, especially during high tide. I just walked around the island instead.There are some villas with sandbags in front of them - I had one like that. But the hotel immediately offered to change it and upgraded me to a pool villa. Huge thanks to Niko, who helped with absolutely everything. He showed me many villas before the change, carefully listened to all my comments and preferences - a truly rare level of genuine service.If you’re looking for privacy - go for the pool villas on the northwest side of the island. They feel very secluded, and each one has its own little garden. Seaplanes arrive a few times a day, but the noise is barely noticeable.The spa - oh wow, that’s a whole separate story. I created a program in advance and went there every day. I’ve been to the Maldives twice before, and usually spas are located closer to the ocean, but here it’s set deeper in the island, surrounded by greenery - which creates a very special atmosphere. The therapists are incredible, I loved every single treatment - total relaxation every time. The staff are very warm and attentive.You absolutely have to try the marma massage with warm oil and the sand ritual - especially if your villa has direct ocean access. They set up the massage bed right on your terrace, and you just relax to the sound of the waves - it’s unforgettable. They also sell a lovely tanning oil, which you can apply over SPF or use as a moisturizer after a shower.In the last few days, I joined some water excursions - we went looking for manta rays and dolphins. The team was amazing, truly committed to finding them - and we did. We also snorkeled at a beautiful reef with turtles. Special thanks to Yambe and his team for these unforgettable experiences.The only downside for me was a funny one - in both the regular and pool villas, the bed has a wooden frame, and in the pool villa there’s a wide wooden edge around it - I managed to get a couple of bruises, so be careful :)But honestly, I loved everything. This is definitely a place I’d love to come back to. Even the rain, with thunder and lightning, felt beautiful.And the most important thing here is the people. Jameel, the General Manager, is incredibly attentive - to guests, to staff, and to the island itself. Niko is one of the most genuine and kind people I’ve met in a long time. All the girls at the spa are simply magical. And the excursion team deserves a special mention 🫶If you’re looking for true, deep relaxation and that feeling of being exactly where you’re meant to be - this is the place.
