AVOID!

AVOID this place! We stayed in Cancun and needed an end of trip hotel before we flew out and mistakenly picked this hotel. To start we arrived around 12:30 and the front desk person told me that they don’t check anyone in until 3pm but if wanted to pay her cash she would let us check in early. So either the hotel or the staff is on the take either way it’s not a good start. We didn’t have cash so we decided to just walk around and left our bags with the staff. After we got back at around 2 we were told we had to wait, along with the other 5 families that were waiting around. At 2:30 I asked if it was close enough and I was told they would take the other families fist since they were there before us lol. After it was finally my turn, I was told there is a local city fee that needs to be paid so I said sure and handed her my Amex. She told me they don’t accept Amex, but when I pointed out the Amex sign sitting right on the desk, she took the sign and threw it away and said “we don’t take Amex”. After paying the fee I asked for my bags so we can go to our room. I was informed I would have to wait for staff to walk us to our room. I told them I was ok going on our ow but she ignored me and went back to watching YouTube and ignored me. I asked again and was told I need to wait for staff and they wouldn’t give me my bags until then and went back to signing along with the music video playing on YouTube. Finally some staff meant showed up and walked us to our room and stood in the room for about 5 mins watching tv and after me insisting we didn’t need anything a few times he finally left the room. The toilet was broken, the shower pressure was an awesome choice between hot water and no pressure, or warming water and slightly better pressure. The have no wash clothes, they do give you one hand towel and we had blood on our bed sheets. Elevators were hot and smelly and sounded like they might stop at anytime. There is nothing redeeming about this hotel and you are def better off finding something else.

Nice pool, views and center of the city

Nice hotel located on Kukulcan. There are variety of rooms for various budget. I recommend higher levels like rooms on the floors 8,9,10.They have nice clean pool. With a palapa and breakfast Buffett. A nice bar with variety of cocktails. An Italian restaurant which serves pizza. Walkable distance to beaches. View is Gulf of Mexico/Gulf of America from some rooms. Staff is wonderful. Well kept building and rooms. Highly recommend this hotel to tourists.

The hotel is clean. It’s bad when a review starts with those words. Or in this case it might be a good thing. With that’s said most of the outdoor public area photos on Tripadvisor are way out of date… they should be deleted There is a snazzy new pool and an outdoor bar and restaurant which are quite nice. The staff is friendly. While seeming a bit stressed.The pubic areas are a little dated.The rooms are another story.. they are way past their due date and should have been refurbished 10 years ago. They have decent mattresses. Really.. one Power outlet? Kitchen sinks no plumbing. spaces where their used to be a hob? Lighting is terrible where existent. Not a comfortable chair to sit in. Toilets clog easily. Switched rooms because I didn’t think it could be so bad… it was. Don’t expect decent internet in your room… you can get a strong signal across the street. But not in the pool area nor your room. Not that you want to stay in them. There does seem to be some idea of a refurbished room(s) on the upper floors.. but most of the rooms are in pretty dire shape. And on a las note the rooms that end in 15 face the pool and a substantially quieter. Unfortunately someone built a busy highway on the side of the rooms balconies and the a parking garage that takes the view away.There is a plaza in front of the hotel which has a little mini mart and gift shop as well as a branch of los chachalacos taqueria open late.With all that said. The hotel does seem to be a work in progress… so looking forward there should be some improvement

VERY clean all around, close to all tourist attractions, restaurants and beaches, beautiful and clean rooms, very comfortable bed and fluffy pillows, and above all extremely welcoming and friendly staff : Mr. Ostar (manager), Mrs. Virginia (front desk), Mr. Salvador (guests' assistant), and Mr. Uziel (Staff running bar and food service) - Thank all of you for making our stay so pleasant.I highly recommend this hotel - since we (my wife and I) had an enjoyable and memorable time at this hotel. Jan. 9-12, 2025 (NH)

I was pleasantly surprised wity my stay at the Calypso hotel The pictures of this hotel are old.The hotel has just been refurbished to a nice standard in common areas and in the higher floors. Great view from 8th floor and lovely rooms. Great location for a budget hotel with food amenities.
