Rating of 6.5/10 - Good bang for your buck

    rating25 Mar 2026

The hotel is about 12 minutes (drive) away from the Hotel Zone. We used Didi for our transportation needs, which is probably the best bang for you buck around this area. The hotel itself is good, but lacks a few important things. Here are the perks and cons:PERKS:a. Nice, spacious rooms;b. Ideally located, 7 minute walk from the ADO bus station;c. Rooftop pool is cool, but boring (no music, no ambiance);d. Less than a 5 minutes walk to what I consider the hidden treasure of centro Cancun: the Carlos Nader avenue, filled with unique bars and restaurants;e. Less than a 3 minute walk from a major grocery store (Soriana);CONS:a. No ice machine. You can buys quart-full of ice for 10 pesos at the front desk;b. Pool closes early (6pm);c. Shower rugs are available or not, depending if you are the first room cleaned or the last;d. Check in is tedious (or with our fast-speed american way of life, it seems that way!);e. After the restaurant closes, the water is sold (there is a 45-gallon water machine located in the dining area when the restaurant is open);f. Everything here opens at 7am, even the Starbucks in the lobby (says it opens at 7am, but expect it to open past 7h30);8. No coffee machine in the rooms;9. There is no english channels on the room TV, only spanish;10. Although the internet is good, it was down for a full day (hotel blamed their ISP);To sum things up, I would return, but with a better understanding of how to get the better side of things and things done right.I recommend visiting Mercado 28 (a labarynth-designed flea market) and Puerto Cancun (amazing shopping/dining are by the Cancun Marina). Mercado 28 is a 15 minute walk, and Puerto Cancun a 12 minute drive. We went to the Hotel Zone, and really appreciated the venue, but it is mainly for younger folks (we are a 55-year old couple). The Hotel Zone is about a 15-20 minute car ride.FYI: We paid 1200 pesos per night for this room.Cheers!

You should avoid this old hotel

    rating26 Dec 2025

The hotel entrance which is not at the street, is hard to find. Facilities are too old. Reception is so dark. one lift was broken. They gave us an uncleaned room at the beginning. We changed another one. Another room, One picture frame was broken and put on the table. Room is smelly. The window lock was loosen. The bathroom was so old and lack of maintenance. Everything was rusted. Hot water was so limited. However, staff were quite helpful.

    Mediocre Hotel, Great Location

    rating07 Dec 2025

We stayed here for three nights in December -- our goal was to avoid the tourist areas, and this hotel seemed like the best option. The bad: Mex Hoteles is TIRED. The sheets and towels are scratchy, the rooms are damp and warm, and one elevator is out of service and the other is slow. We had lunch in the attached restaurant when we arrived and it was fine, but the breakfast was really extremely mediocre. It rained our second day and water was pouring through the light fixtures in the breakfast area and running down the pillars. You can hear every word being said through the hotel walls. There is, and I cannot stress this enough, no hot water. The employee at the front desk straight up refused to give us an extra towel (we needed a shower mat) and we had to track down a very pleasant housekeeper to help. Aaaaand the furniture on the rooftop deck was almost comically uncomfortable. The good: The pool and rooftop bar were scenic and the service up there was good, so if you just want to lay around for a while in between activities, it's a nice spot. But more importantly, the location of this hotel is GREAT. We wanted to experience local cuisine, dive bars, get a bag full of cheap pastries from the bakery down the street, etc -- and for that, the hotel was perfect. You're right in the middle of downtown, but still just a 15-minute Uber to the hotel district if you want to catch a boat tour or go to the beach. It's exactly what we were looking for in terms of that.Overall... I would call this a solidly 2 or 3 star hotel; if you're a patient traveler with low expectations, it's a fine place to stay, and the convenient location to groceries and great local restaurants really can't be overstated.

    Tragic

    rating29 Oct 2025

The hotel was dirty and in need of repainting. There were issues with dampness, the curtains were in terrible condition, and there was no hot water. Overall, it needed a complete renovation. The only positive was the location.
