Lot of Charme, but needs a major overhau

    rating31 Jan 2026

It seems like this place has existed for a long time. Great location close to the Maya site, beautiful surroundings, pictures of times gone by, very nice pool, trees and birds, very nice breakfast, spotlessly clean … but this place needs a major overhaul, especially at the price they are charging. The rooms are dated and yes, the mattresses are hard, it feels and looks old - with some Charme, yes, but this place could be so much more. We were the only one staying there in January (60 rooms), restaurant was closed (we had to go to the sister hotel close by), bar was closed, not really any personnel on site except for cleaning. For one night, it was ok, but with all the other newer hotels close by, it seems like they really have to do something.

We stayed in Jackie O's room!

    rating03 Jun 2025

I loved the fact that we stayed in the same room Jackie Kennedy Onassis stayed in when she was researching Uxmal and the area. She obviously was serious about her travels to archeological sites and she stayed here back in the late 1960s. The outdoor areas were impeccably clean, tile floors, nice rocking chairs, stained glass lighting that paid homage to the corn farmers (we do that back in TX), & the mojitos were top notch! We enjoyed the museum areas and the pool was so refreshing. We were steps away from the Chocolate Museum and just walking around the grounds was so peaceful. We visited Uxmal both day and night. This is a hidden gem in Yucatan. We even found a little community in the jungle that believed in fairies....There was a hole in the ground that you could climb down in to see altars paying homage to them. My niece told me not to go down there....plus there were honeybees zipping in and out of the opening with only a ladder to work yourself down into the little cave. This was a few miles from Hacienda Uxmal--a little north and then a small road took us to the west to find this little spot in the jungle. We drank coconut milk fresh from the coconut. We did this while we waited for our room to be ready. Great place to stay and reasonably priced.

    Gem in the Yucatán

    rating25 Jan 2025

We’re on a bird watching trip and staying here for 2 nights. It’s a very nice hotel but has no restaurant on the premises. The restaurant is less than 1/4 mile away at the newer fancier hotel. My only criticism is minor: no towel racks and the beds are rock hard.

    What a disappointment!

    rating19 Mar 2024

The Hacienda promises great things on the website but is extremely disappointing in reality. Location & sense of history are great & the room size spacious but that’s its only positives. As we checked in, the guy at reception tried to charge our credit card in US dollars rather than Mexican pesos, then just gave us the keys and we were left to find our own way to the rooms, no help, or information given at all. Walking up the grand staircase to our rooms, we were met with a pile of furniture all in wraps as if waiting for the removal van to arrive. All the tiled floors looked like they needed a good scrub & housekeeping staff had left all the dirty towels, sheets & bags of garbage in piles along the corridors giving a less than good first impression. We spent the first hour of our stay having the safe & coffee machine changed as neither worked. The TV had only 2 channels, both of which were like looking at a snow storm, the a/c fan was broken, the picture window was filthy inside and out, the bath mat was a rather revolting off white grey colour, the bathtub was so slippery it made having a shower quite a challenge, the lighting was grim and the fridge froze everything we put in it! Breakfast was a complete rip off, by far the most expensive & least appetising one we’ve had on this trip, served by surly & apathetic staff. Needless to say, we chose a different place to have breakfast the next two days of our stay which were half the price & so much better. With decent management & a bit of TLC, this hotel would be amazing!

    Wonderful experience!

    rating13 Mar 2024

The Hacienda is fabulous, clean and comfortable. Fantastic location to explore the ruins just a few steps away. Steeped in history, Hacienda Uxmal and the Choco Story are amazing. Plenty of hot water in the shower. Continental breakfast was delicious and the coffee hot. 100% recommend staying here.
