    Convenient hotel for tourist attractions

    rating24 Apr 2025

Good location for visiting historical sites and museums. Front desk service okay but one receptionist did go out of his way to give directions and information. Hotel restaurant not to be recommended. Room was cleaned daily and I did have a lovely view of a garden

    Great Location

    rating04 Dec 2024

We stayed at the Hotel Royal Reforma prior to touring Mexico and Guatemala. As the tour began in Mexico City the hotel had been chosen by our tour operator. We had added a few days prior to this so that we could have time to explore the city ourselves and attend the Day of The Dead parade.Hotel Royal Reforma proved to be in the perfect location just a short walk from Avenida Paseo De La Reforma and within walking distance of many attractions, restaurants and bars.Guests will notice that there is a significant police presence outside / near the hotel. This is nothing to be concerned about, it’s because the police station is just around the corner. The officers are all very friendly so do say Hola when passing them.We enjoyed a suite on the sixth floor from where we had great views across the local area. Our room was spilt over two floors with a spacious sitting room with panoramic view from a separate space downstairs; and large sitting room, bedroom and very big bathroom upstairs where there was also seating with a spectacular view across the surrounding area. The view from the bathroom was also far reaching. The room was very clean and well furnished. There was a safe, plenty of wardrobe a storage space and TV’s on each floor. The bed was large and very comfortable. The bathroom had everything you needed although the toilet had a temperamental flush and light fitting above the sink was out of order and wasn’t replaced despite reporting it. This was frustrating as the lighting when shaving was poor. We recommend taking a universal plug to as it was needed here and in other hotels during our travels in Mexico and Guatemala. There was a large bath / jacuzzi although a sign indicated the jacuzzi wasn’t working. The room was great for us but wouldn’t be suitable for anyone who couldn’t negotiate the stairs or climb into the bath / jacuzzi given its height above the floor. The hotel had seating at tables in the lobby along with a couple of sofas. There is a rooftop bar where you can have a drink or something to eat whist enjoying great view over the local area. There is also a small pool although it is only 1 metre in depth. The loungers provide a great place to chill after a day out.The dining area was downstairs where we took breakfast each day. The staff in the dining room were fantastic. Breakfast was buffet style but it’s possible to get omelettes, scrambled egg etc. The Mexican style omelette was a favourite. We don’t speak much Spanish but had no problems as there were staff who spoke some English, some very good. The hotels concierge team are outstanding but special mention goes to the fantastic Raul. Raul was absolutely incredible. He helped with directions, arranging a trip to the wrestling, advice regarding bars and restaurants and the time and best place to be for the Day of The Dead parade. In a nutshell Raul is as good as any concierge you’ll find anywhere. He is a great advert for the Hotel Royal Reforma and his country México. We would have no hesitation recommending Hotel Royal Reforma for your stay in Mexico City.

A party in the room, but not a good one

    rating05 Oct 2024

Let’s start from the few positive things about this hotel.1. The area: the location is really good, many shops, bars, restaurants and much more around the area.2. The staff: we will talk about all the negative stuff about this hotel, however, I don’t feel like blaming the staff; they are actually very kind and helpful at all times.Unfortunately, the negative things about this place are many more than the positive ones.1. The hotel overall is quite outdated, although this doesn’t specifically bother me, indeed, it does not look like a 4 star hotel. Also, the beds are tiny, sleeping 2 people in one bed is really uncomfortable.2. The cleaning of the rooms could be much better. The carpet is stained in multiple spots, and bad sewage smell comes from the toilet.3. This is the main reason why I would never ever go back. It is crazy to think that the rooms are not sound proof. We are not talking about some acceptable noise level, but literally, it feels like the music playing from the clubs outside is actually playing into the room. Is it absolutely impossible to sleep, and as I went there for business, I had zero rest for 3 nights in a row. Also, if someone talks in a room next to you, you can hear everything, although they are talking at a decent level. We tried to change to different rooms, and the noise level was unacceptable for each and every one of them. At least, I believe they should be offering earplugs at least to support, but of course they didn’t have any when I asked. Checking the reviews (afterwards, sadly), people are saying the same thing since 2015, and it seems the owners couldn’t care less about their guests. I assume this review won’t make any difference, but I hope I can help people to stay away from this place. There are many affordable Airbnb’s in the area.Rest is sacred, and probably one of the main things you are looking forward after a long day working or walking around, and that’s why this hotel for me is one of the worse I have ever been and will never ever go back.

Average hotel, misleading information on facilities

    rating24 Apr 2024

The location is perfect, very close to main city spots and steps away to restaurants and commercial places. We got a 9th floor room with a spectacular city view. The cleanliness of room was great, except for a few small stains on room carpet. Soft matress and pillows, bed linnens perfectly clean. Bathroom and shower worked fine.BUT... on the other hand: No roof top bar, neither swimming pool on service!! The whole penthouse area was "apparently" under repair with no signals or information at all of this situation, so when we were about to take a splash the personnel told us we were not allowed to use it even though the pool was full and there were no signs not to use it. If I were informed of this situation I would have preferred to book in another hotel since for me and my wife a roof top pool was a very desirable perk. Too bad it was misleading advertising on this property. I won't stay again in this hotel on my next visit to Mexico City, having many other options. Even front desk clerks were not helpfull and a bit rude once I asked about this.
