Franco and his team make this your perfect peaceful retreat on the wild and beautiful Oaxacan Coast. Favorite dish, black shrimp ceviche. Look out for the turtles in the lagoon

After staying at the very disappointing 'sister hotel' down the road, we were anxious to check-in to Escondido. While we relaxed and enjoyed long walks on the beautiful beach, the hotel is in serious need of attention and upgrade. The facilities were generally in poor condition, particularly our room where the louvered windows didn't work, the lighting non-existent and the A/C leaking so much that all of our clothes in the wardrobe got wet.The restaurant is o.k. at best. Generally good breakfasts. Simple dinners which we couldn't really see as it is so dark (amusingly, other diners brought flashlights in order to see anything. But the service...oh my. The bartender is hopeless - case in point, one evening I ordered an Old-Fashioned which is on the drinks menu. 45 minutes later some fruity concoction arrived in a long glass. I rejected the drink. No apology ever received.In sum, a hotel with potential IF an investment is made in management attention, staff training and facilities upgrade.

Stunning hotel and location but not worth the money

While the hotel is beautiful and the location is perfectly secluded, the service and food did not meet expectations. Despite the hotel being only at half capacity, there was distracting construction noise near the guest rooms during the day.The accommodations were not fully sealed, which led to numerous bug bites at night. Additionally, while the private pool is a nice feature, adding umbrellas by the loungers would significantly improve the experience for those seeking shade.Two hours after our arrival, maintenance requested entry to fix a TV and a toilet seat. When we declined the intrusion, we were told the repairs were necessary for a future guest buyout. As we were only staying for two nights, we found this request disruptive to our stay.Regarding the dining experience, while breakfast was delicious, the dinner was unimaginative and bland. Furthermore, the chef did not adequately accommodate vegetarian or pescatarian diets.The service was also inconsistent.? For example, we followed the instructions to use a white flag for beach service, but staff remained on their phones and ignored our requests for the duration of ?the evening. While I understand it is currently the off-season, the combination of these issues significantly impacted our experience.

You pay for bad service with a beautiful view

Such a beautiful place, but then staff at the front desk were so incredibly rude! They didn’t think we spoke Spanish and over heard them talking poorly about us. We tried to cancel our super expensive stay there after so many issues between the room and management staff , they wanted to charge a ridiculous amount of money to add a person to the room, unfortunately we couldn’t cancel and made the best of it. The staff at the restaurant were nice and laughed when we made the joke about Chef Ratatouille (yes there were rats running through the restaurant and into the foliage). Oh also! No cell service and driving out to where the hotel is was so scary, anyone could disappear from there and never be seen again) the next food/ convenience store was 15 min drive.

Rustic and Relaxing

Wonderful resort. 18 cabanas. All have private plunge pool.Very rustic. AC doesn't really work - just rely on fan - you can ask for an extra fan if needed. Open concept palapa roof so geckos come in and out - it's ok - they don't cause humans any harm. Sandy trails so if you are not good with walking, this is not your place.On the road, there are many places to visit: other hotels, restaurants and art galleries. Food at the hotel is very good. Service is spotty. Use WhatsApp to communicate with front desk for all needs. Spa services were good.We did have an unexpected scorpion come into the bathroom - luckily there vs the bedroom because it was easy to see on the concrete bathroom floor. Just always wear flip flops.
