We had a terrible experience at Selena. Had 4 rooms reserved and they could only find one in their system. We had to hassle for 2 hours to finally get some partial resolution *for one night* out of the four we had reserved. Their take was “we’ll refund you for the other rooms” while declining to assist us in any other way. Front desk staff is powerless to do anything and higher management would not speak with us because they were “off shift” and not on premises.In the end they did accommodate us as expected, after a full day of uncertainty as to whether we were going to be able to stay or not. For new years week this would have meant having to go somewhere else, wrecking our entire plans.We were declined breakfast two days (supposed to be included) because the kitchen was closed.Everything else was as expected for a hostal hotel. The hotel is built on a hillside, so getting to your room most likely means climbjng hundreds of steps. No staff to help you bring your luggage to your room. If you are open to a 50/50 chance that things will go as expected, definitely give this place a chance. I will never recommend Selina to anyone.

Don’t know where to begin when the front desk female ask once I entered what do you need? As I begin to say I’m checking in she says we don’t have reservations available. We didn’t even get them a reservation number so how would she know? Long story short we weren’t the only couple where they said we don’t have any of your reservations. Total of 6 couples. Few with kids. Sorry. And then they just went back to their phones and talking. Not once did they offer any service or assistance or even a drink after hours of trying to resolve the issue…Don’t stay. They provide 0 assistance.

Honestly after reading the most recent reviews I was terrified to get here. However when I arrived it became very clear that most were ripping on it because ... Well no it's not a 4 or a 5 star hotel, but it is exactly what you should be expecting from a hostel/hotel, it's a solid 2.5 maybe 3 and that does not mean it's bad.But here is the break down:Hotel Grounds- At first it throws you off it looks old and built into the mountain through the trees but after a bit you realize its also the appeal. It's a hipster's Paradise 😂 there's actually a lot there two pools, I will judge them here a little. My first day in the first pool was absolutely green with algae. They have a cool wellness/ yoga studio that overlooks the water. Biggest downfall even though again it's kind of part of it. Is the amount of stairs you have to go up to get to the hotel rooms. Even if they do have hotel rooms at the bottom I wouldn't go to them because it gets very loud at night with all the live entertainment and music. StaffI'll start with the pros. The bartenders they are very nice and come up with some great drinks. However, reviews are right. Reception needs a little work. We got there early asked if it's possible to check in early they didn't even work. Just kept repeating 3 pm, had a very angry look on their faces when we got back around 2:45 asking if the room was ready. Room We got lucky here, room is outdated but it was huge overlooked the ocean with an incredible view. Again, it was a hike to get to the room, it was worth it for the view. Remember for a 2.5 to a 3 star is this normal. We did see some of the other rooms just by coincidence and they were smaller so just be aware of what you are reserving.

Good side:-Great place for young people to meet or stay-Restaurant staff were very friendly -Convenient place to stay with quick access to the beachThings that SHOULD BE IMPROVED -We stayed in a sea view SUITE and the bathroom was horrendous, old and just did not feel clean-Reception staff need to be given a lesson in hospitality and a course on how to help out tourist-Need to inform guests on their website that one needs to CLIMB A LOT OF STAIRS if you have a room higher up-Housekeeping could be improved. Once they did not shut the main room door properly and the next time the balcony door was left unlocked, where anyone from outside can enter. Cleaned the suite and did not replenish basic necessities like hand towels and toilet paper. After this we just kept the DND sign outside- No telephone number to contact reception from your room or phone.

Juan gave me the best service. They were very attentive and accommodating. They have different events planned in the bar. On Thursday I learned to salsa dance which was a free experience. The service was great and the staff continued to check in and ensure I didn’t need anything.
