Misleading Photos and a Huge Disappointment

    rating23 May 2026

I would not recommend staying at Villa Varadero. Calling this a “resort” is incredibly misleading. At best, this feels like a 2-star hotel. The online photos are deceptive. The property heavily advertises the newer tower, but what they don’t make clear is that this tower is actually across the street from the main hotel. The main hotel itself is old, outdated, poorly maintained, and nothing like what the pictures lead you to expect. The rooms and common areas felt dirty, run-down, and neglected. Everything looked cheap, worn out, and in desperate need of renovation. The food was one of the worst parts of the experience. Meals were consistently burnt, overcooked, low quality, and honestly disgusting. There was little variety, and the food felt more like cafeteria food than resort dining. To make matters worse, the reception staff had terrible attitudes. They were dismissive, rude, and unhelpful, making the experience even more frustrating. What honestly shocked me most was how different this experience was from many of the positive reviews online. Based on my stay, those reviews did not reflect reality at all.Overall, this was a complete waste of money. Misleading advertising, poor conditions, terrible food, and bad service. Save your money and stay somewhere else.

Great time at a beautiful place

    rating28 Mar 2026

My wife and I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. We had a great experience there — everything was absolutely wonderful.Villa Varadero is located in a beautiful place near the marina in Nuevo Nayarit. The area is amazing, and the atmosphere is perfect.I’d like to mention the beach — it’s very wide. Palm trees on the beach provided shade from the sun. There were enough sun loungers under thatched umbrellas. I really loved the beach. The food was tasty and varied. Our room was quite clean. One note: there was no safe to keep valuables.Overall, we had a great time at this hotel. I can absolutely recommend this place! Just ok nothing special

    rating23 Mar 2026

Hotel rooms were nice beds are rock hard. Pools are a little dirty and small no adult only pool. Price adequate, food decent they have a lot of everything. Staff was good to work with very little English though. Beach chairs are old and breaking. A lot of birds getting into everything. The views from the room were great though! Great Beach, But a Few Misses

    rating21 Mar 2026

Villa Varadero offers a solid vacation experience with some standout positives, but also a few frustrations that kept it from feeling like a higher-end stay. The resort is very family-oriented—almost to a fault. With five pools available, it would have been nice to have at least one designated adults-only space, especially the rooftop pool with the bar, which feels like a natural fit. Another downside is the lack of lounge chairs around most of the pools, with the rooftop being the only exception.Food was generally good, but the setup was confusing and inconvenient at times. Lunch options were oddly staggered—if you wanted burgers or hot dogs, those were available earlier, but the buffet didn’t open until 2:30. The rotating menus across three different restaurants meant you had to walk around and “shop” for the best option each day, which wasn’t very user-friendly. That said, the rooftop ciabatta and bagel sandwiches were excellent and a highlight of the trip.Drinks were another mixed bag. Everything is made with artificial flavors—no fresh fruit—which was disappointing. The alcohol selection is limited, with no top-shelf options or even basics like coconut rum. However, the staff was accommodating—one member of our group bought fresh mint from a local market, and the bartenders happily used it for mojitos. By the next day, they even had mint stocked, which was a nice touch. We were also confused by the reusable cup system. Many guests had blue cups with lids, but we weren’t given any at check-in. It took until the second day to figure out we had to ask for them, and the language barrier made communication a bit challenging at times. This is a resort that caters heavily to local guests, and while the staff was always friendly and helpful, English is not widely spoken. The beach is a major highlight—beautiful, with plenty of chairs and palapas available, making it easy to relax and enjoy the ocean. Rooms are on the smaller side but functional. However, the beds are very firm (borderline hard), and quite small—somewhere between a twin and a full. The walls are thin, so noise carries easily, but if you book an oceanfront junior suite, the view is absolutely worth it.One major drawback: the birds. They are everywhere, and so are their droppings. Unlike other resorts that manage this with birds of prey, there didn’t seem to be an effective system in place here. Staff would occasionally try to shoo them away, but they quickly returned.Overall, we would recommend Villa Varadero, especially for families or travelers looking for a more local, laid-back experience. With a few improvements—particularly around amenities, food logistics, and bird control—it could easily move from a 3-star to a 3.5-star resort. Just a place to sleep

    rating16 Mar 2026

It was a bed and a place to sleep kind of…..I gave this place a chance because of the location and we needed one night for our flight home after two weeks at another resort nearby. We had a room where the balcony door actually didn’t latch closed. It was on the second floor but there was a gap and the sound from the street came in full blast at night also didn’t give you a sense of security from critters or whatever else. There was no wash cloths in the bathroom and the water itself is dirty! Bath, toilet, sink it is all a brown color. Also there is no fan in the bathroom so when you have a shower it is soooo hot in the bathroom and there is some vent that is basically a speaker of all the sounds of the hotel into your bathroom I think it’s coming from the pool? Kids screaming and banging and laughter! The pullout sofa was also stained and looked nasty. We did get a few hours sleep so was thankful for that. Ana Macklin, Sales at Hotel Villa Varadero, responded to this review We apologize for any inconvenience during your stay. We will make sure to provide a better experience in the future.
