    Great and not so great

    rating09 Jan 2024

Centrally located, great air conditioning, great yoga and nice staff however incredibly loud! You better bring good ear plugs. Also mold in the rooms, mites and needs better cleaning. Nice heated pool! It had great things and bad things. A weird mix!

Unfulfilled Promises and Unpleasant Surprises at Selina Hostel in Sayulita: A Cautionary Tale

    rating05 Dec 2023

DUBIOUS MANAGEMENT ETHICSI recently stayed at Selina Hostel in Sayulita, Mexico, and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. I had booked a Standard Room for a few days through a reputable travel agent in Toronto. Upon arrival, I was informed by the hostel manager that I was only entitled to a bunk bed in a shared room, and that the reservation didn't match my confirmed voucher.Despite presenting a copy of my receipt clearly stating my booking for a Standard private room, the staff insisted that this was a mistake and suggested I pay extra for the room if I still wanted to stay. This was not just disappointing but also impractical, as they had no private rooms available at the time.Throughout my stay, despite efforts from my travel agent to resolve the issue by sending the contract agreement to Selina, the hostel did not provide any solution or compensation nor got back to me, ever. I was left with no choice but to stay in a less-than-expected accommodation setting.I'm writing this review to share my experience, not out of spite, but in hopes that Selina Hostel will recognize the importance of honouring contracts and being transparent. This incident not only caused inconvenience during my vacation but also left me feeling disregarded as a customer.------------------------------- WHAT ELSE ----------------------------BEDSEvery night I had to brush off what I thought was sand from my bed sheets. Turns out, it was termite droppings falling from the ceiling. Woke up with this stuff over my eyes and mouth — absolutely disgusting.PLUMBING ISSUESA leak from upstairs was dripping right onto the toilet seat, which was really gross and unhygienic.SEWAGE SMELLThere's a constant sewage smell in the lounge area, which is really off-putting, especially during the day. Also, the sight of cockroaches running around the pool and lounge area is totally repulsive. These conditions are far from what any guest should experience. This place needs to urgently address these hygiene issues.-------------------------------Lastly, Selina's rates don't match the quality of accommodation you can find elsewhere in Sayulita. There are more appealing options available for better prices. To those who have had similar experiences, I encourage you to share your stories. It's important for businesses like Selina to understand the impact of their service on travellers and to take steps to rectify such issues. I believe in giving credit where it's due, but also in holding businesses accountable for their commitments.Thank you for taking the time to read about my experience. I hope it helps others make informed decisions and, hopefully, prompts Selina Hostel to improve their services and customer care.

    Nice but noisy at night

    rating02 Apr 2023

The place is beautiful and clean but breakfast and rest at night is awful. The breakfast includes only 1 cold coffee, that you can't change for anything else and has a delay of 30+ min at least. And if you plan to rest early to go surfing bring strong earplugs because you hear plenty of great bands playing every night until at least 2 am, from all over the city.

    Extremely noisy

    rating22 Mar 2023

Very very noisy at all hours. The hotel is surrounded by bars that blast music all night, so loud that the rooms shake. Even with both earplugs and noise cancelling headphones I could still hear everything. Rooms have paper thin walls and/or open roofs so you hear every noise from outside.I asked the front desk for help and they only offered for me to switch rooms, but said that there will be a loud salsa class next to the new room until at least 2 or 3 am. They didn't offer anything else to help us - a refund so we could find a more quiet place, free coffee, nothing... The front desk person seemed annoyed when we wanted to take some time to think about switching. I understand Sayulita is a loud tourist town but Selina markets themselves as a place to co-work and co-live so they need to have soundproofed rooms available for the co-working guests.Incidentally the co-working possibility is why I decided to pay the high price since I need to be available to clients while I'm traveling, but it's pretty hard to work if you only get 3-4 hours of sleep per night, and it would be impossible to take any meetings due to the constant noise. The co-working space at Sayulita Selina is also tiny and crowded and I don't think there are separate meeting rooms anywhere.

Love sleepless night? This may be the place for you!

    rating27 Feb 2023

If you want to stay up all night and sleep all day this is the place for you!Accommodating staff, clean room that shares a wall with a club. It’s as if there’s a speaker inside of the room that plays the club music. No joke, the loud music played until 5:30 am. When I asked the front desk about it, they played dumb like they didn’t know what I was talking about. So I recorded the music & returned to the front desk and played it for them. They acknowledged that the musics will go late each night as it’s a club. We were offered ear plugs. We were unable to get quality sleep here.
