  A "NO FRILLS HOTEL"

  I should have read reviews and looked at the pictures prior to booking this hotel. What they advertised looked good but definitely not what we experienced. We booked in a hurry and paid way too much for the accommodation we received. Note: Hotel de Aqua has two hotels (The White & Turquoise main hotel and the Beach Hotel next door which look totally different). We stayed in the Main hotel and I cannot comment on the other one only assuming it was in the same state. PROS: *On the beach which was a bonus situated right in front of the second largest reef and a cenote to go snorkelling*Two decent restaurants either side (Don's & Ki which is at the Beach Hotel)*Minutes walk to Restaurant Row and the main square*Buses and Taxis available within minutes *Front desk and housekeeping were friendly and most helpful doing the best they could with what they had to work withCONS: (Where do I start?)*Totally rundown requiring repairs everywhere*Only a sheet on the mattress which was on a wood platform (we had to ask for a blanket as the temperature was cold when we first arrived)*Mini fridge was disgusting so only used it for bottled water*Missing doors off hinges*Cold or sometimes lukewarm water in the shower which I wore my flip flops in (one day no water as the pump was broken)*Beach area not maintained and the pads on the chairs were meant for the trash with stains, rips and some torn to shreds. The sand wasn't raked or chairs lined up the next day. Umbrellas cost 50 pesos each/day and beach towels were free and 750 pesos if you did not return them*Pool very uninviting (of the 21 days we were there only saw 1 person in it)

  Relaxing!

  The Ojo de Agua beach club is a great value. For 250 pesos per person you get two loungers, an umbrella and a 200 peso food credit. It's right on the beach and right offshore within easy swimming distance is some of the best snorkeling in Mexico. An underwater Cenote is just a stones throw from the beach.🏖

  Hotel with potential, but needs repairs and updates

  The hotel has a lovely location on the water. The staff that I spoke with were all very helpful and kind. The AC in the room worked very well. The hotel itself is tired and no longer adequate. The mattress had broken springs. The furnishings in the room are dated, chipped and visually unappealing- however the cleaning staff does a good job of keeping surfaces mostly clean. Hot water showers aren’t a thing in this hotel, however warm water, more than adequate for a shower was mostly available. On our final day, there was no cold water and the toilet tank had to be manually filled with water. An hour later the cold water came back and no warm. The location of the hotel is good, and there are many things to enjoy in this little town.

  Affordable and decent beachfront hotel

  The room was more than fine. Mini fridge was cold, air conditioning worked great, beds were ok. Yes the showers are not hot but we were fine with lukewarm. Sure it’s not new but they kept everything super clean and the staff were great. My only big complaint was the lack of cleaning for the pool and the pool area. The pool at the second property was maintained but the smaller pool at the main hotel was not cleaned at all. It also needs new furniture and some loungers. The beach area also could have used some maintenance in terms of garbage and many of the chair cushions are in dire need of replacement. The new kabanas at the second property look amazing and will likely stay there next time. All in all it’s an incredible location with great staff and super affordable.

  What a shame!

  The photos on the website are obviously of better days. This place could have been lovely if it was just maintained with some care. Well situated on the beach, beach chairs and umbrella available at a cost and it has a small pool. Sadly, the reality is that it is rundown, dirty and poorly maintained. There are holes in the window frames, dirty walls, stained and limited pillows, towels and linens., broken furniture and on top of it all no hot water for several hours after we arrived and no water at all the next morning until noon. Beds are thin mattresses on plywood frames. Pool was not being filtered and staff were getting buckets of water from it for floor washing. It's a great price for the location but you really are getting what you paid for.
