    Soooo disappointed with this place

    rating28 Apr 2026

Stay elsewhere! Everything advertised by this hotel was a sham! There was no yoga, no beach clubs and no bars open. They didn’t even tell us until I arrived that as of April 16 it was no longer a Kimpton property so we didn’t even get points for the stay. It was a huge disappointment all around.

I believe there are better options in Tulum

    rating02 Apr 2026

I expected more from this hotel. It looks good at the first sight and I think it was really very nice when it was still new, but I think it lost a lot of its glory. The pool area is very beautiful, but eg you see the mosaic needs to be renovated. Both pools (rooftop and downstairs) have nice poolbars, but none of them was open. You could order at the restaurant though, but what’s the point of having poolbars? The room was nice and spacious and had a good bed, however it didn’t smell very well, like it was very moist. The bartenders were superfriendly and they have “social hour” which is a nice plus if you happen to be around at that time. Reception staff however were not very friendly, nor helpful and seemed bothered that they had to stop being on their when phones when you asked times eg to call a taxi. Also the never asked if everything was ok, or didn’t even reply to a simple “buenos dias” when you crossed them in the corridors. The hotel is a bit remote, which is fine, a taxi ride costs 300-350pesos. They also have bikes available for free. In summary, This hotel is definitely not worth 4 stars. I think for this price there are better options in Tulum.

Worst hotel experience of my life

    rating22 Mar 2026

We booked a Deluxe Double Room at Kimpton Aluna Resort Tulum in July 2025 for our stay in February 2026. The reservation was prepaid through Booking.com and refundable until 8 days before arrival. Before booking, I specifically contacted the hotel through the WhatsApp number listed on their official website, because their beach club policy was unclear. I explained that access to the beach club was the main reason we were considering this hotel, since in Tulum beach clubs can easily cost more than the hotel itself. The person replying from their official WhatsApp confirmed that access to their nearby beach club (same hotel group) was included for hotel guests. Based on that confirmation, we booked. After a 3-hour drive from Valladolid, we arrived at the hotel only to discover the first problem: they told us that beach club access was NOT included at all, and that we would have to spend 20€ per person per day minimum, meaning 40€ extra per day on top of the 167€ per night we had already paid. When I showed them the WhatsApp conversation and the profile clearly linked to their company (Grupo Presidente, exactly as shown on their website), their response was shocking. First they claimed they didn’t know what it was. Then, after I showed that the number comes directly from their own website, they said they were not responsible for what was written there and that I should “ask the person who answered on WhatsApp”.But the worst part was yet to come. They informed us that the hotel had a technical failure and there would be NO HOT WATER for at least two days. Their solution? They said they would offer some kind of compensation later, but they couldn’t tell us what it would be. Obviously that could mean anything from a few euros to a meaningless voucher for their restaurant. At that point we asked them to cancel the reservation from their side so Booking.com could assist us in finding another hotel. Otherwise we would have had to find a last-minute accommodation ourselves, which in Tulum often means paying double the price on the same day. What happened next was honestly surreal. They called security, and suddenly 5–6 men surrounded us while we were calmly discussing the situation. It was just me and my wife (who is pregnant), speaking normally and trying to find a reasonable solution. The staff insisted that lack of hot water was a “minor issue” and that the hotel was perfectly usable. Their only alternatives were:• Stay with cold showers for two days• Move to another property from their group but pay more than double the price (about 1,200€ instead of the 492€ already paid)• Leave the hotel immediatelyWhen we tried to contact Booking.com for assistance, they started raising their voices and pressuring us to decide immediately, saying we were not allowed to wait for Booking’s response. At that point I was essentially one person facing several aggressive staff members, and with my pregnant wife there I had no intention of escalating the situation. So we chose to leave.I travel more than 200 days per year all over the world, and this was by far the worst hotel experience I have ever had.We left immediately and ended up booking the brand-new Wyndham Resort nearby, which turned out to be the exact opposite: new, clean, professional, and managed by people who actually respect their guests.Avoid this place.

Kimpton Aluna is officially a "One and Done" for us.

As an IHG Platinum Ambassador, my status was ignored at Kimpton Aluna Resort, making the “Ambassador” perks feel meaningless. Switching from Marriott Platinum to IHG has been a letdown; service here is indifferent. The resort offers serene, green vibes and good housekeeping, but staff apathy ruins it. Check-in was unfriendly—no upgrade despite <50% occupancy. My 1pm checkout was overlooked until I begged due to transport needs. Breakfast was mediocre, food menu poor. The rustic pool bar felt dilapidated, and the sky bar’s chatty servers left guests waiting—on Valentine’s night, I timed their talks amid empty tables.Worst: towels had an unwashed odor, raising hygiene doubts. If you seek elite care, skip this. My last visit—can’t wait to leave. Victor Lopez, General Manager at Kimpton Aluna Resort Tulum, responded to this review Thank you for choosing Kimpton Aluna Resort Tulum. We are committed to continue improving day by day, your feedback helps us stay focused on what really matters, providing a comfortable, safe and enjoyable stay for all our visitors.Best regards.
