You won't be able to rest until 4 am

    rating05 Dec 2021

Old rooms, hard to climb stairs, dirty balconies, but the worst is the area... LOUD very LOUD. There are 2 big bars open until 2 am downstairs but worse is the roof Night club open until 4 am, just across the hotel. If you plan to go to sleep before 4 am don't stay here...The only good part is the hotel is very close to the beach and has very nice staff.

    Do not stay here

    rating29 May 2019

My father and I only lasted one night in this hotel. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a less than enthusiastic man at the desk who responded to our questions with “What?” and had a general lack of manners. We were then asked to sign papers that told us there was a charge for stealing towels, after this we headed up 4 flights of stairs (no lift) with our heavy suitcases and no offer of assistance. When we got into our rooms, the sheer shabbiness was astounding. Plug sockets and electrical fittings were hanging off the wall, tables on the patios were broken, the sheets were dirty, curtains stained and ripped... the whole place was just grimy and dirty. The “pool” is just a dirty hole in the ground with some not-so-clear water in it and breakfast, consisting of a loaf of bread and cereal, was served on the reception desk. On some adverts for this hotel it says that it has wifi in the rooms, this isn’t true. The wifi is ONLY available in the lobby and is very temperamental. Another notable point is the noise. As the doors and windows don’t shut properly and the walls aren’t soundproofed, there is no way of getting any peace. So prepare to be under-slept if you stay here. We ended up checking into the Carmen Hotel just down the street as we couldn’t face spending a whole week there. Making a reservation at Maya del Mar was a complete waste of money. The hotel does not deserve its 3 star rating, it could only just about earn 1 star. Do not stay here if you can help it. HotelesMaya, Director de Relaciones Públicas at Maya del Mar, responded to this review Dear guest,We regret the inconveniences that they had in our hotel, day by day we try to give the best for our guests. We appreciate your comments, we will take it into account for future occasions.

    Not a good choice!

Hotel is not for anyone who wishes or wants to sleep. The breakfast consisted of bread and cold cereal. The TV was terrible (outdated and malfunctioned). The staff seemed pleasant enough but the hotel needs remodeling.

    Nice hotel, BUT...

    rating09 Jan 2019

Hotel was clean and mold-free, maid service was great, and staff was attentive and responsive. The continental breakfast was sparse, however, - burnt toast and Tang, with cereal available. WiFi was available in the lobby, although I was able to use the WiFi at the iHop across the street in my room. Location was right on the Main Street, a short block from the beach, and the balcony on the third floor made for great people-watching. I would give it 3.5 stars...BUT... the restaurant/club across the main street had an open-air club (on the roof?). They must have had a 57,369 watt amp on the sound system, because the walls of our hotel literally vibrated to visual levels with only the thumping bass and highly repetitive guitar riffs (no melody discernible, if there was one). This kept on at ever increasing levels until 4:30 every morning (except Christmas morning, when it quit about 3:30AM) - and started up again at 6:00 every morning. The only thing that made it bearable was getting a cold, and taking cold medicine I bought up the street at a pharmacia, which finally put me out for a couple of hours. Tip for anyone staying there - my partner found some sponge ear plugs at the pharmacia which worked fairly well.Great God Almighty though - I still haven’t caught up from sleep deprivation.

    Worst Place Ever

    rating19 Dec 2018

Travelled all the way from Canada and based on pictures and reviews we thought this place was descent but when we arrived we checked in and our room was very very small, the bed was literally a single hard mattress on a concrete rise off the floor and it was dirty, just nothing like what we expected. I went next-door to the Illusions boutique hotel and booked in there for about the same amount of money $70 USD and it was beautiful, comfortable and the staff was great. The Maya del Mar refused a refund so I lost $75 Cdn but there was no way we were staying there so do yourself a favour and don’t book in here.
