    Bedbugs and terrible hygene

    rating25 Feb 2017

We arived late in tulum. A Girl was advertising at the ADO-station do we fell for it.The staff was friendly at first sight. But after checking in they went back to there student-drinking business. So after checking in we went up to make up out beds in the main. After we tried to get some sleep. Before turning off the light i saw a bed bug walking arround on the bed next to me, and after some Hood looking also in my bed.We immediatly packed our stuff and head downstairs to tell the staff. One Girl made up an act that she could not believe it, 5 minutes later one Guy said they sprayed against bedbugs 2 days ago :sAfter all they did not care that much, they said we could sleep in the hammocks and left it to be our problem. Then they partied further. Beside the bedbugs the hygene was terrible, the bathroom wasn't cleaned in months and the smell was disgusting. The only possitive thing i van come up with is that the hammockplace was ok, even if their were only 3 hammocks.

    Price is right.

Informal hostel. Big kitchen available for your use. Pool table. I used the tent option which I enjoyed. It even rained pretty hard the first night but my tent kept me dry. Air bed in the tent was comfy. They have other options besides the tents. People are friendly. Kind of a family atmosphere. Wifi was good. Hot water not always available but the cold water isn't freezing. It is about 3 blocks off the main drag so quiet by comparison. Breakfast included and free coffee. I don't think you can beat it for the price. Nice thing about the tent was the privacy as compared to a dorm type bed.

Saludos y feliz año I love everything!!! From the staff (Victor, Andrea, Patrick and Ilma, they are all great human beings with a lot to share and a kind heart) to the location and house. I hope they have enough free time on your stay with them to get to know them personally, make them practice their English/Spanish). The construction is a beautiful Mexican house with big, open spaces, nicely decorated and very warm home feel (take advantage of this!). The pool is a great addition that I wasn't expecting, and they can rent you bikes to move around the small and beautiful town/almost city of Tulum. The hammocks upstairs are delicious and I hope can be preserved since they're delicate and fragile. The pool table in the living room is also the best little surprise ever! Not to mention the fact that the big led screen in front of it is smart and if you know how to use it you have infinite apps [Netflix, YouTube, Spotify, cell phone connectivity for your music library, movies, series, photos (anything you can think of, technology now-a-days is amazing!!!), Wifi, or you could bring along your own consoles or whatever you’d like to enjoy and share. Also the kitchen is well equipped and the patio is beautiful, let’s make it better on your visit, maybe you could gift a flower pot with a personal taste of yours, maybe fruit trees or even help make a Home Garden with useful vegetables like carrots, potatoes, lettuce, onions, habanero, jalapeños, tomillo, tomatoes, beans, garlic, basil, celery, cinnamon, etc etc etc. Ask for advice on what you’d like to leave behind, maybe even just a small message on their chalkboard walls. Bottom line is, this place is wonderful for new experience and for staying in Tulum. I will definitely keep in touch and visit again.

    Never again

    rating10 Jan 2017

This was The worst place I have stayed this holiday. Sorry for all The capitals, autocorrect...Positive:The atmosphere. If you're looking for A place To meet new people and feel like A hippie, this is The place To be.The staff. They are friendly and speak english well.Free drinking water. A little shop. A kitchen. Availability of towels for 30 pesos if you need them.Negative:The bathrooms. There are only three toilet/showers for A lot of people. The hygiene. My standards are relatively low, but this was definitely below that. Usually 1/3 toilet was clean enough To dare To use, The sinks were probably not cleaned for months, if you Would take A shower you Would be disgusted by The smell of Piss because The baskets for used toiletpaper were not emptied often enough. The Tents. We were sleeping in A tent for two persons, but I think maybe one Maya Would have fitted diagonally, definitely not two tall dutch people;) also, The matrass was too large for The tent, making iT difficult To close it. There was A hole in The tent and The material does not breathe at all, and with The humidity this was making iT hard To breath (since iT was raining we could not open it, To Our surprise we did not get wet feet)The chance of sleeping before 03.00 am: There was A bright light right above The tents which people Would use and a common area right next To The tents. People are partying hard here, which can be great, but The division between party space and sleeping space was really not there. If you want To sleep during daylight, stay here. (We needed To get up early and though if people Would try To be quiet, iT did not work because of The location)Overall: The negative things (terrible tent, not sleeping, lack of hygiene) made are stay very unpleasant. I Would never come here again and Would not recomment iT To anyone unless you are alone in The tent and want To party only and do not care about A low standard of cleaneliness.

    Good hostel

    rating07 Jan 2017

Overall, I had a pleasant stay. Shoutout to Patrick the German volunteer. He is a great staff member! Super friendly manager, gets it all done.Hostel Pros:1) Has friendly, social atmosphere. Very communal. They have daily scheduled event.2) Good wifi signal throughout.3) Warm breakfast included. Full kitchen provided. So scrambled eggs, chopped fruit, coffee, toast. Sometimes french toast! Kudos to José the chef.4) Comfy dorm bed, bit shaky frame though.5) Convenient bike rentals. I did find cheaper in town however.6) Chill, quiet, outdoor hammock spaces.7) Lockers are solid. Enough space for small bags and valuables only.8) Billiards (pool) table. I love billiards!9) Competitive, cheap bed rates.10) Good location, 3 blocks off main street.11) On-site convenience store (room). Shampoo, beer, snacks, water...whatever your need they have you covered (til closing).Cons:1) Lack of bathroom facilities. One full outdoor bathroom for tent facilities. One full hall bath and one full bath in 16 bed dorm. Im unsure about private rooms. So we're talking for roughly 30 people, 3 bathrooms. It can be a struggle at times.2) Bring earplugs! I always do. It can get loud there at night as they tend to blast music from the common area, especially during the late afternoon and into the night. They stop around midnight. They only barrier to block the noise from my dorm bed is a thin window and thin door. Also, the birds outside chirp early and often.Overall:I stayed 2 nights here. Despite the cons, I would stay here again and recommend friends to stay here!
