Clean, spacy, affordable rooms but the hotel could improve their information and service

    rating27 Feb 2018

Clean and spacy rooms with bath near the Medina. Affordable. Nice lobby and hotel exterior. We had paid full in advance to our Travel agent, clearly documented in the voucher. However the hotel receptionist still demanded a tax in addition, but no information signs, leaflets or receipt given in English on this – strange! Not much dinhares to pay extra though. Breakfast was included, however closed when we were there, no compensation offered - strange. Good restaurants nearby though. We did not get wifi to work in our room either, only down in the lobby. Sad that arguing, bad information given from staff not speaking good enough English spoiled a Casablanca night and stay. With hope that the hotel will improve their services.

Worst hotel we stayed at during our trip!

    rating02 Jan 2018

We stayed a couple of nights at Al Mamoun and can't say we recommend it. The location is actually pretty good, as it is on a square not far from the tram line and also Place Mohamed V and Place des Nations Unies. It was also a 10-15 walk from the Casa Port station. However, the hotel also suffers from the prime location as it is extremely noisy at night - not just from the hotel's own entertainment in the bar/ restaurant, but also from activities on the neighbouring streets at night. We were kept awake on the first night (Saturday) from a lot of beeping of car horns, music, arguments from people, etc. It was a bit better on the second night, but perhaps only because it was a Sunday. The reception of the area looks quite nice and traditional, though old. We arrived in Casablanca pretty early and were allowed to check in which was appreciated. The room we were given was on the second floor and it was spacious - with two double beds. The décor is very old school with a lot of floral fabric and dark wood furniture. It feels like the hotel has passed its heyday! The bathroom was a good size, though on closer inspection, there was a big hole in the tiling on the side of the bath, which was a bit off putting. There were toiletries - different colours and in bottles labelled "shampoo" so we were none the wiser. There was an AC, but there was no remote and it didn't look like it would function, so needless to say, it was cold at night - we had to take the blanket from the other bed to add to the one on ours. There was only 1 light bulb in the room which worked, so it was a bit dark for my liking and hard to read in the dim light. The mattress is very old and the springs on my side of the bed seemed to have gone so it was very uncomfortable indeed. There was also a weird thick rubbery covering on top which didn't extend to the sides of the mattress, so every time I turned, I would get caught on it. We didn't really have any issues with the cleanliness of the room in general though one of the carpets on my husband's side of the bed looked a it dirty so he turned it over as it seemed cleaner on the other side!! We were told that breakfast would be at 7am but when we went down the next morning, the restaurant was in darkness and we saw a sign in reception which said that breakfast was at 7.30. As we had a coach to catch for a day trip, we had breakfast elsewhere. On our last morning there, we went for breakfast at 7.30 and it was still being set up and only consisted of different types of bread, some yoghurt, cream cheese and jam. The orange juice was the powdered variety and you could have a hot drink. When we had almost finished, we were offered some boiled eggs - all very random. Wifi was non existent in the room, but was available in the reception and dining area. In general, we found Casablanca disappointing in terms of the limited sights to see, and the general grime of the place, so in that sense, I suppose the hotel lived up to what the city was like!! Not a place we would recommend, unless budget limits options!
