    Not what we expected

    rating07 Oct 2016

We are at the end of our Moroccan portion of our holiday and we have truly enjoyed the people of this country. My wife and I have taken a private tour from Tangier through to Marrakech, and the tour company put us into local Riads along the way. Our Fes riad experience was our least favourite. The staff were genuinely sweet people who meant well and tried to accommodate us in the best way they could, but the level of accommodations were far less than we expected. The bathroom was in shambles with the shower head unattached, the bathroom sink had no water pressure, no shower curtain was a joke and hardly any towels provided. We we told there was a safe, but none provided. The Internet was absolutely the worst, and the staff constantly had to reboot the service. Again the staff were lovely people who tried to help us in whatever way they could, but nothing nice to say about the riad otherwise.

Best Service in beautiful historic Riad

    rating15 Feb 2016

Besides the beautiful details you will find in this Riad, I specially loved the patio and breakfast room, the service here is what you except to find at any 5 star hotel. Omar was kind and attentive, one step ahead of our every need. Breakfast everyday was also amazing! Breads, eggs, pancakes, fresh squeeze juice, etc. You MUST stay here when visiting Fes. Thank you Omar and Riad Fes el Bali! We will never forget you! Melody and the Bertolotti family :)

Good, bad, and a wee bit ugly...

    rating06 Jan 2016

Good: The best thing about this Riad is the wonderful owners and staff. You couldn't ask for nicer and more obliging people. The meals they prepared were delicious and traditional, but if you asked for something special, they had it for you! The courtyard was lovely, though very cold, filled with glorious architectural detail and decor.Bad: Do NOT let them put you in the first floor rooms off to the side. They reeked so badly of mold and were so tiny and utterly windowless, we had to refuse them. The main floor fancy suite is huge, but with no windows, felt dungeonlike. The "jacuzzi" tub had no plug, so wasn't much use. Heating was ineffectual.2nd floor rooms were decent, but poor upkeep, with a faint sewage smell, and in need of TLC. The heater was a puzzlement. Upper floor rooms varied, but the terrace, while affording a nice view, required climbing under hanging laundry and wires. I still loved the people and the authenticity, but comfort wasn't that great.

Medina and sights nearby; beautiful grounds and good breakfast

    rating01 Dec 2015

This was only my second day in Morocco, so the proximity to the medina was lost on me as I didn't venture out alone. Luckily, the room was good, the courtyard, fountain and mosaics beautiful. Breakfast was filling and had excellent choices. I wish the heat in my room had worked, but, again, luckily it wasn't too cold. I didn't need special help, but I overheard the staff being most helpful to people who did. Recommend this hotel.

The Quintessential Reasonably Priced Moroccan Hotel!

    rating13 Jun 2015

I stayed at this hotel knowing I wanted something a little nicer than a hostel in Fez but not too expensive. It was well worth the extra money! The room we were in and the interior is beautiful! You really feel like you're getting the Morocco experience. The breakfast was amazing! It is well located near the blue gate and the water clock . Wifi, the showers, and air conditioning all worked great! At times, the manager was very attentive but sometimes almost too attentive. All in all, I would definitely recommend this hotel! If you stay, ask to be shown the balcony. From there, you have incredible views of the Medina.
