    Excellent riad in Fes

    rating07 Jun 2018

Note: cash only. This is an old building - there are a lot of steps and no elevator. We spent two nights here at this inexpensive riad /bed & breakfast, a couple of minutes walk to the Rcif gate to the medina, restaurants, banks, and the taxi stand. Isham, our host, was a pleasure; attentive, courteous, friendly, and helpful. The riad is beautiful, clean, and comfortable - although our bathroom could do with a little work! Also, the riad is in an alley and can be a little noisy (especially during Ramadan celebrations). We booked a room with 2 beds - we got: a suite of two seperate bedrooms; a salon with tv, dividing them; a private bathroom; a balcony looking into the building - as is typical for this style of building; and a large typical Moroccan breakfast each morning. We ate breakfast on the rooftop terrace with an impressive view of the medina and the Necropolis Merinides. Isham speaks Arabic, French and Spanish fluently, and enough English to hold a good conversation. If we return to Fes, we would happily stay here again, and eagerly recommend it to others.

Good service - friendly, concerned owner

    rating14 Feb 2018

Unfortunately, we had to cancel our school trip to Morocco last minute and canceled our reservation of 15 beds under one week before the planned arrival date. The cancelation worked following the described terms (not what we experienced in other hostels) and the concerned owner even contacted me on whatsapp to make sure that we were well and the cancelation went well. I hope to visit this hostel in the near future.

    Great place

    rating28 Oct 2017

We had a spacious family room with two bedrooms and a living area where we could sit or lay down and eat or watch television. A bathroom with hot shower was available as well. Then staff is very friendly and helped us the best they could. Recommended stay!!

    Steer clear.

    rating08 Oct 2017

Upon arrival the owners were not sure of our booking. I had to show proof we had booked. I also had to show proof we had already paid. We were given mint tea as soon as we got in and quizzed on our plans. We had already booked all our excursions weeks before with Viator and they seemed displeased we were not going to book any tours with them (luckily we had already read the reviews on this place and so were prepared) We were shown to our room (which had a very dodgy looking lock on it) that was supposed to be a luxury double room with terrace views. It wasn't. But hey ho we thought....we were only going to use the room for sleeping in. We were not given a front door key which was really inconvenient. It meant each time we wanted to get in...we had to ring the doorbell. The owners were not always forthcoming with their answering of the door. We were stood waiting more often than not.Breakfast. We stayed for 10 nights and only received breakfast on 4 mornings. There was simply no one about. One morning we specifically requested that they leave some tea making facilities in the kitchen as we were rising early to go on a trip to the desert. All we requested was some milk and hot water. There was nothing. We had to go to the shops to buy our own milk at 6am. Which was no mean feat. Breakfast was supposed to be included in the price. But that was just typical of the attitude of the owners. They just did not like that we did not want their over priced tours and the fact we chose not to eat dinner there because of the inflated prices.Cleanliness. As said before. We were there 10 nights and not once was our room cleaned and we were not given any clean towels. I had to keep asking for toilet paper and they made me feel so uncomfortable I ended up buying my own toilet roll and took towels off the washing line. The room was shabby and not clean. And nor was the terrace (which was the only good thing about the Riad. The view.) However this was slightly spoiled by the fact the owners and their friends often slept on the terrace and so it was not great to go get our morning view of beautiful Fes. They also had many friends over to drink on the terrace nightly and so it was always filthy with spilt food and the seating was always caked with cat poo. It would stay this way for days. Yes the view is amazing (when you can see it through the hanging washing) but it's at the more shabby side of the Medina. If you want the better end....get a riad near the Blue Gate. Not here. Another incident was one night they told me there was no payment made to them from us. I explained I had made my payment to Expedia 11 months previously and could show them the bank transaction on my tablet. They told us we should pay it again to them and then claim it back from Expedia. I don't know if they were short of cash for more booze but I was not going to fall for that and told them this has nothing to do with me and they need to take it up with Expedia as had proof of payment. (I later messaged Expedia who confirmed payment had been paid) So their little scam did not work. We did however pay them the city tax that was due (and got no receipt) but that was ok....they had money to party again! And therefore were not so rude and miserable towards us as they normally were. The owner and his sidekick made me feel so uncomfortable that at times I almost dreaded going back to the riad. Their underlying intimidation and crappy attitude could have spoiled my holiday if I had let it. But as we had planned trips every day we didn't have to spend enough time there for it to ruin anything. I was not going to write a review for this Riad as I do not like being negative about anything. But after reading the most recent review of this place...I thought it was my duty to add my experience of my stay here as I would hate for anyone to save all year for a holiday at Riad la Source Bleue only for it to be ruined by staying here.

    worst night in marocco

    rating05 Oct 2017

Chaos, disrespect for the guests, difficult contact with the owner and manager, noise + absurd practice of not-providing guests with the key to the entrance door - consequently, repeated ringing, knocking, hitting ant banging to the door by more and more frustrated guests, who weren't able to get inside the riad, also in the middle of the night. Because no member of the staff was present at the building. We opened the door to the other guests and were left in by the other guests (who informed us, that they were having party with the owner and the manager at the terasse...). As a consequence we slept that night about 4 hours. The building itself is neglected, maintained at a minimum of financial outlay. Ground floor rooms = zero chance for a peaceful sleep and elementary privacy. I would definitely not recommend it. It was the Worst accommodation in Morocco (including overnight in the desert and mountain lodge). We left the riad after one night and were not able to get our money back (including money for the next night and the cab to the airport, which is 30 euro). Because manager vanished into thin air after confronting with us, owner was constantly unavailable and the only physically present person, which is lady who takes care of the food and cleaning, speaks only maroccan and had no intention of contancing her supervisors. DO NOT GO THERE.
