    Enjoyed it; but not enough to come back

    Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Monte Santo resort - my wife and I, and our two kids (5 & 2) spent a week at the resort in late April 2026, staying in one of the resorts two-bed apartments. In terms of positives ; lovely location, lovely indoor and outdoor pools, great playground for the kids and a lovely vibe to the place.In terms of negatives; it is expensive and I’m not entirely convinced re the value for money; there was also mould in our bedrooms, which we noticed on the first day and to be fair, this was cleaned immediately when we called reception. That said, it was a bit of a downer on Day 1, especially when you consider this is 5 star. We ate at the restaurant only once, and it was very expensive and the food was average.In short, we enjoyed our stay but probably not enough to stay there again - we ADORED Carvoeiro and have already booked a week in October, staying in a nearby resort.

    Families Beware

    Families beware. Monte Santo advertises itself as a family friendly resort. However this week it has just introduced a new rule banning children from the indoor pool after 4pm every day. We are currently staying at Monte Santo and my children were just told to leave the indoor pool at 7pm this evening and go in the outdoor pool (which is freezing cold in April) as it is "adults only time". However there is nobody in the pool or anywhere to be seen.I fully understand the need for adult only swimming times but banning children from the indoor pool everyday from 4pm is crazy. An hour in the morning and evening I can understand, but a 4 hour block is too much.Hopefully the resort will quickly come its senses, otherwise I fear it may alienate a big chunk of its target market. We have visited Monte Santo 6 times in the last 3 years as a family of 6/8, but I fear that this time will be our last if drastic rules like this are introduced.     The hotel is beautiful and the grounds themselves really nice, the hotel is not a 5 star hotel. Guests have to buy their own coffee for the room. If you go half board you have a limited choice menu. The room we had clearly had sewage problems and we smelled sewage all night when sleeping. TotalWaste of money.     A great complex!

    We stayed here as a family of 5, with older children. Complex is lovely and clean. House keeping daily and the staff work hard. The resort is a walk away from anything so would be good to have more facilities on the complex rather than just the one restaurant. That said a really nice place in a quiet location.     NOT A FIVE STAR RESORT/MAYBE A THREE STAR

    At first glance a beautiful, well landscaped resort with spacious units. But after a few days it became a tired resort inside and out due to lack of proper maintenance and quality control. Kitchen was in need of an update. Fridge, dryer problems. Frequent calls to front desk to report issues. Furniture with cushions required cleaning. Cleanliness was lacking due to unacceptable cleaning by the cleaning ladies. Kitchen and bathroom floors were not regularly washed and sanitized as well as most of the unit. I had to ask them to wash the floors. We had ants in the master bedroom and living room. One unit had cockroaches which was ignored by management. Interior needed some repairs with our ensuite bath door not closing due to regular water from the shower landing on the floor. Lights in some rooms needed replacement. Again, no quality control. Consistently we had to call to report problems. Bathtub needs a safety bar to avoid slipping. The pool was lovely but again not maintained resulting in safety issues especially along the wooden pathways. Reviews have been dismissive after looking back a few years where the same problems are mentioned. There hasn’t been an improvement. I would avoid this resort as it is neglected, overpriced with many unsolved issues. It appears that they don’t take complaints seriously. Staying for a month, one notices a lot and it’s a shame that this resort is not properly maintained because it has much potential.
