Wonderful riad, made even better by the hosts!

    rating17 Aug 2019

Staying at Chez Les Berberes felt more like visiting family than staying in a bed and breakfast. We made the mistake of parking our hire car near the chez les berberes sign, assuming that it would be walking distance from there. We were wrong. It was quite a dangerous trek to the riad with all of our bags and toddler in tow (pitch black at night, again our mistake) but Hassan was fantastic he, waited 3 hours out by the road waiting for us knowing we'd need help. There was parking a little closer to the riad but it is tricky without a guide (the family were more than happy to provide someone to guide us), as the roads are narrow and not tarmac'd. When we finally got into the riad I asked if there was anything to eat, assuming it would be small as it was so late but Khadija prepared an amazing 3/4 courses for us. Fantastic food, authentic, delicious and reasonably priced. We wish we'd eaten there for every meal because the quality was so high and everything was so clean. We had very different experiences in the other local restaurants, one of which resulted in my husband getting very sick. Again Khadija looked after us at this time, we were due to leave that day but as the room had no bookings afterwards she allowed us time for my husband to recover and she knew just what to give him (natural herbal remedies from her mother). Aside from these minor holiday set backs, we loved all that chez les berberes had to offer from stunning views of the atlas mountains especially from the terrace, comfortable rooms with a/c better than the hotel we had stayed in, friendly local community and the wonderful sound of the athan ringing around he mountains. An experience that we'll never forget. Would love to visit again (maybe when our baby's a little older), thank you to all the family at Chez Les Bereberes for making our stay so memorable.

    Fantastic view and lovely restaurant

    rating04 Feb 2019

We chose where to go for lunch and our driver was extremely helpful and asked where it was and took us there. We had lunch at Chez Les Berberes, high in the mountain, after quite a bit of climbing, but worth it for the view from the terrace. The food was simple but tasty. We agreed the price beforehand and were firm about receiving change. The is no menu. For 160 dirhams (£16) in total for 2 meals, we had a chicken tagine, bread and olives, small salad, a large water bottle and fruit. We gave them 20 dirhams for the mint tea (£2) which was served on our arrival. The restaurant owner organised a guide to pick us up and drop us back there for lunch later, as we arrived at 11am and went for a 2 1/2 hour walk before lunch. Our guide was Jamal. He was gentle and very helpful. My husband, who is very sure footed and loves walking and scrambling in North Wales, fell and injured his knee. Jamal was very concerned and caring and immediately took us to a stream and washed his badly scraped knee. The previously agreed cost for the guide was 150 dirhams and that is what we paid. Back at the Riad we were provided with Betadine, cotton wool and tape and received lots of sympathy.

Chez Les Berbéres is a beautiful Riad in Imlil! It is one of the most unique places I've ever stayed and I'm so happy I chose it. Mustapha is a local, and an excellent host. He can arrange for tours/private driver/etc and is sure to make your trip to Imlil Valley unforgettable! Thank you! -John

    Amazing, peaceful hotel

    rating25 Jun 2017

Our stay at this hotel was very good. Mustapha made us feel welcome from minute one and cooked amazing meals for us both nights we stayed, at a very good price. The view from the hotel is simply stunning and the hotel itself is clean and has nice vibes. The hotel is located in a very deprived small village quite a bit off the main road but the locals are very friendly and welcoming. It was very hot when we stayed in June and the flies and beetles in the hotel were quite annoying but watching the sunset over the atlas mountains was the highlight of our visit to Morocco. Would 100% recommend. The hospitality is the best I have ever experienced at a hotel.
