    Very disappointing stay

    rating09 Nov 2025

We had a very unpleasant experience at this riad. From the first day, we felt constantly watched by the staff, with no privacy at all. The owner spoke loudly and rudely to us, and the overall atmosphere was tense and uncomfortable. The beds were extremely hard and uncomfortable. The breakfast was poor, with little choice and low quality, and one of the women serving was clearly sick, coughing and sneezing — we both got ill afterwards. There was also a strong smell of hashish inside the riad, which was very unpleasant. There was constant traffic noise, making it impossible to rest. On the day we left, no staff were present in the morning, so we couldn’t even have breakfast (it only starts after 8:30 a.m.).The staff were unfriendly and unhelpful throughout our stay. Overall, a very bad experience — we will never come back.

A Perfect Stay at Riad Ajebel

    rating18 Jun 2025

From the moment we arrived at Riad Ajebel, we were struck by its authentic charm and warm, welcoming atmosphere. The riad is beautifully restored with traditional Moroccan touches throughout, and the rooms are spotlessly clean, thoughtfully arranged, and equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. What really made our visit special, though, was the exceptional service. The staff were wonderfully attentive, always ready to help or offer suggestions without ever being intrusive. A special mention goes to Anke, whose kindness and care truly stood out. She made us feel completely looked after and added a personal warmth to the whole experience.Breakfast each morning was a lovely way to start the day. The offerings were generous and varied…homemade breads, Moroccan pancakes, eggs, and other treats that changed slightly from day to day, which kept things interesting. The location is another huge plus. Tucked in a peaceful part of the medina, it’s just a short walk from the Saadian Tombs and other key sights, making it easy to explore while still having a quiet retreat to return to.We genuinely loved our stay and wouldn’t hesitate to return. Riad Ajebel is a perfect balance of tradition, comfort, and heart.

Extended stay in a Marrakech Riad -- Comfortable accommodation, delicious food, blissful hammam experience, warm welcome

    rating29 Nov 2024

We stayed at Riad Ajebel for 18 days, needing some days out of the Schengen zone while on an extended visit, and wanting somewhere we could stay put and relax. We had anticipated doing some trips to other parts of Morocco, but in the end, other than 3 days in Casablanca, we were so content getting to know Marrakech from the hospitality of the riad that we spent all our time here. Taxis are easily available to get quickly to all the important tourist sites, but we were mostly content to walk and we loved being ensconced in a neighbourhood that gave us such a different perspective than we would have had staying in the more modern hotels in the newer parts of the city. We returned several times to some of the nearby places to eat and experienced the warm welcome of the locals -- Anke and Aziz were great at recommending places and we were happy to discover some on our own. Slowing down and settling into a pace where we could observe the neighbourhood rhythms might not be for everyone but it suited us very well.We had a good-sized room with a very comfortable bed and also a lounging area. There were adjustments being made to the riad while we were there as it was being reopened, but by the end of our stay I was able to enjoy the hammam room -- private hammam and massage, bliss!!Also wonderful were the breakfasts prepared by Imane or Soumiya each morning -- even though we were there for so long, they managed to provide some variety and to introduce us to some Moroccan specialties (and teach us a few new words in Marrakech Arabic). We also took advantage of the opportunity to have Moroccan meals prepared for us in the evening -- eating them on the terrace as the sun set over the royal palace just across the road! We were even able to have a cooking lesson -- Imane coached us through the recipe for the special "seven vegetables" couscous that is generally eaten on Friday afternoons. We will be doing our best to recreate this experience at home but we will miss the warmth of cooking and eating this meal together with our new friends in Marrakech!

Would highly recommend but not for everyone

    rating19 Nov 2019

I loved the Riad, it was traditional, close to everything and we really enjoyed the stay. Breakfast was often waiting for us when we went down and Jean Jacques was very helpful when we arrived, showing us where to go, advising on taxis and routes. I say this isn't for everyone because depending on who you are will make a difference if this is the right place for you. This is not a 5 star resort with 100s of staff and restaurants and bars. If you want this type of hotel then you want to go north of the medina but you'll lose out on a lot of the real Marrakech by doing so. Also several people we spoke to at the airport on our return flight who had stayed in one of these hotels got really sick. The problem is in resorts like that is the amount of people and things like gastroenteritis spreads like wildfire. There are 4 rooms in the riad and neither of us had health issues the whole time we were there. The rooms are dark which wasn't a problem for me, it means that the room is cool but some people won't like that. The floor is tiled not carpet, it would have been nice maybe for some complimentary slippers as after walking all day it isn't the most comfortable for your feet, so I'd recommend taking some with you. Our only slight complaint was that the safe in the room didn't work. We had locks for our suitcases so it wasn't an issue but if we hadn't I would have been more annoyed. The body/hand wash smelled amazing and the cleaner was fantastic, fresh towels every day. There was a really interesting food place called the clock cafe which Jean Jacques recommended to us which is less than 5 minutes away. For the price we paid we got more than our moneys worth, and if you want to go somewhere and experience the essence of the place, for Marrakech this riad was perfect. Amazing

    rating06 Aug 2019

Slightly belated but we visited in July 2019. We had the riad to ourselves and the host and staff were extremely accommodating and friendly. The traditional breakfast everyday was extremely generous and set out beautifully. The place itself is lovely and spacious. The best thing about our stay however was that we were given a local smartphone to use which had data etc for the duration of our trip. This was extremely useful and something that definitely sets apart this riad. Location was also very good. Would definitely recommend.
