SCAM - Classic Bait & Switch (BEWARE)

    rating05 Jan 2026

We arrived to the riad at approximately 23:30 on the 28th December (having booked from 28th December - 2nd Jan) on lastminute.com. Booking was confirmed in advance as normal, with check in noted from 12:30-00:00. The accomodation was completely locked up on arrival - we rang the doorbell, and two Canadian guests opened up (these guys advised us their own check in earlier that day had taken 3 hours to conclude, and although they had booked for 8 nights - had already been told they would be moved to alternative accomodation). We finally reached someone by telephone, they arrived after some time to tell us the 'manager' would be here shortly. We sat in the lobby waiting for approximatey one hour and were joined by an Italian couple in exactly the same scenario. Roll on 2am..... the 'manager' arrives, to tell us the accomodation is overbooked and an alternative has been found. I requested a refund - to which I was advised I should contact the booking agent (of course this wasnt possible at 2am). We were packed into a taxi (with the Italian couple), and driven across town to our alternative accomodation (arriving around 2:30am). This alterative accomodation resembled a prison cell, stank to high heaven of sewege and was freezing cold. Nonetheless we had no option but to stay until morning and book alternative accomodation (at a huge cost). It's unclear to me how this place has such positive reviews - perhaps AI generated, perhaps new ownership/management (I cant comment on the actual accomodation since we didnt make it past the lobby), but the service was atrocious and seems to me a classic bait and switch scam. To give this some context - I have travelled to Marrakech before (around 10 years ago), stayed in another riad, and had a wonderful experience. My advice is to stay clear of this place, and book a reputable hotel outside of the Medina, you can still walk inside and experience the sights and atmosphere without running the risk of being ripped off at every available opportunity after sunset inside the walls. I am still awaiting a refund, and based on my interactions to date I dont expect this will happen. Save yourself time, money and hassle - and just stay away!

    Absolutely terrible customer service

    rating03 Jan 2026

Unfortunately I can’t comment on the the place, but what I can comment on is the customer service.. absolutely terrible, we booked a 4 night stay over New Year, we arrived and was told there was no rooms and were fully booked, we were told a technical error and would have to walk to another Riad 20 mins away across town, when we got there, they also said no rooms fully booked, after arguing and phone calls, we miraculously got a room, very noisy and certainly not the cleanest of places, then tried charging us for breakfast even though we had paid for it when booking Riad El Wiam. Really spoilt our trip !!!

A stunning oasis in the middle of the Marrakech Médina.

    rating06 Aug 2025

It’s hard to know where to start with Riad El Wiam. When I saw the images of it online, I knew instantly it was the place I needed to book. From the moment I arrived, it really lived up to every high expectation I had of it - and then some. My taxi from the airport dropped me in the Medina, at a spot close to the riad. Within a minute of arriving, a member of the hotel staff came to meet me and escorted me to the riad, which was a lovely touch.Upon arrival, I was in awe of the interior of the place. The decor and feel is absolutely stunning and grand, with a genuine Moroccan feel. It was beautiful decorated, clean and eye catching. I was then treated to some Moroccan tea and cookies, which were lovely. The room and adjoining bathroom were both big and spacious, with stunning ornate carvings in the wooden details and furniture. The roof terrace was large with a fantastic spot to lounge in the sun, a small pool for cooling down and a sheltered seating area with tables. The staff were incredible throughout. I was served an amazing, plentiful breakfast on the roof terrace each morning and I truly felt like the staff could not do enough for me the entire time I was there. They were wonderful.Marrakech itself is an incredible place, but this riad is a calm, cool and quiet escape, perfectly located in the middle of the bustling Medina. I can’t recommend this Riad and its wonderful staff enough.

An unforgettable stay at Riad El Wiam

    rating04 Jun 2025

Riad El Wiam is a true gem in Marrakech. This riad/guesthouse combines luxury, elegance and Moroccan tradition. The rooftop is sumptuous, a peaceful oasis in the heart of the city. The rooms are magnificent, we stayed in the Menara room, with carved and hand painted ceiling, decorated with gorgeous furniture and beautiful bedding. Every detail is thought of to offer a unique experience. Their in-house chef offers delicious authentic cuisine, with a special mention for breakfast, a real treat. The service is impeccable, always attentive and discreet. A stay at El Wiam is much more than just accommodation, it is a true immersion in the Moroccan art of living, especially when the owner or her mother are around. We had the privilege of meeting them both, we will definitely be back for a longer stay next time.

The Riad is very pleasant, the rooms are spacious and a touch of luxury . It's super quiet because it's away from the hustle and bustle. Breakfast on the beautiful terrace is excellent. The lovely multilingual and attentive staff. Thanks for all the service 🌹
