Location

This stylish hotel is located in the heart of the medina (old town) in the Azbetz district. Within around 8 minutes guests will reach the famous Djemaa El Fna Square and the tourist centre. In around 2 minutes guests will reach the particularly lively souk (market) and Marrakech Museum.

Facility

The hotel was built in 1850. Guests have a choice of 9 junior suites, 2 apartments and 8 double rooms. The reception desk is open round the clock. Amenities include a baggage storage service, a safe and a currency exchange service. Wireless internet access (for a fee) allows guests to stay connected while on holiday.     Riad Karmela - At the heart of medina, run by a team full of heart

    Eager to escape the end of the harsh British winter and keen for some early spring sunshine, we opted to go to Marrakech for a week. We picked this Riad because of its location and aesthetic and it did not disappoint. Situated in the Azbezt area of the medina, it is a few minutes’ walk from all the hustle and bustle of the souks and is excellent for all your needs as a tourist in the city. It is close to most of the main attractions and no more than 10-15 minutes walk from excellent restaurants. We took advantage of the transfers arranged by the hotel which was an excellent idea, as they bring you as close to the hotel as is physically possible. Walking down the narrow street to the fairy lit tunnel entrance, you enter the hotel and find an absolute oasis of peace and quiet. The riad is beautifully decorated in a traditional style, with several small courtyards that guests can rest in and shelter from the sun and the city. The roof of the hotel has many chairs and loungers for people who wish to worship the sun. The rooms were brilliantly furnished, with great facilities. The bed was amazingly comfortable with wonderful pillows we wish we could have kept! The breakfast every day was an excellent buffet, with an enormous range of tasty treats and delights on offer, including a wide range of hot and cold drinks. The frittata and Moroccan bread were particularly wonderful, as were the omelettes and crepes that were made to order. We were thankful for the attention from Rajaa, Jamila, Fatima and all the ladies who prepared the wonderful food.The hotel offers a range of tours and excursions that they can arrange with a day’s notice. We opted for the Luxury Zagora two day trip, which was fantastic and was amazing value for money. The sunset camel ride was unforgettable.The Riad Karmela team were excellent from beginning to end and did everything to ensure we had the best time. They contacted us from the day we booked, with helpful tips about what to expect in Marrakech and how to navigate the arrivals process and the airport. It was clear they put heart into everything they do, from the warm welcome Omar gave us when he met us and took our bags to the hotel, not forgetting his excellence at breakfast and skills as a tea pouring teacher, to the lovely farewell from Hakim. They were all brilliant. We were grateful for the ever patient Said, at reception, who managed our endless pre-trip planning e-mails with kindness, care, and attention. Our check in with Mahdi was clear and well handled and the room service team, including Majid and Mohamed were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble, they were all kind, helpful, and so welcoming. It felt like a home away from home, like being with family! To be honest, we cannot wait to go back and are looking at whether we can squeeze in a return in October!

    Wonderfully unexpected oasis of calm!

    With a great central location, the Riad Karmela was a wonderfully unexpected oasis of calm amidst the glorious chaos and sensory overload that is the souk. Our room was very comfortable, clean and quiet (especially considering the location) and we had a few lovely treats (fruit, nuts etc) left in the rooms each day. The spa treatments we had were wonderful and the staff throughout the Riad were all genuinely lovely, kind and helpful. I’m sure we’ll be returning!

    Excellent location on the edge of souks. Great buffet breakfast, common areas also very enjoyable, and nicely decorated. In fact, these are three smaller riads, interconnected at the ground floor, each offering different rooms, some small w/o windows, some like ours close to suites, with two rooms. Staff was very helpful. You need a very detailed map on how to reach the place, or a hotel taxi, or an experienced taxi driver as the place is about 150 m from the closest street with car traffic.

    Riad Karmela is a delight from top to bottom. The guest rooms, spa, and restaurant are wonderful. Shoutout to Mohammed and the other staff members who made our stay so comfortable and memorable. We will eagerly stay again.

    We stayed at Riad Karmela and had a truly wonderful experience from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was peaceful and welcoming, offering a calm retreat from the bustle of Marrakech.The riad is beautifully maintained and spotlessly clean throughout. Breakfast each morning was very good, with fresh, good quality produce and plenty of choice. It was the perfect way to start the day before heading out to explore.The staff genuinely could not have done more for us. Every member of the team was warm, attentive and incredibly hospitable, always happy to help with recommendations or anything we needed. The service felt personal and sincere.We stayed in a spacious family room with a private terrace, which was a real highlight. It offered plenty of space to relax and unwind, and felt both comfortable and private.The riad is in a great location within the medina, making it easy to explore on foot while still enjoying a quiet setting. We also enjoyed a fabulous hammam experience in the riad’s private hammam, which was a real treat.Part of a small group of interconnected riads, Riad Karmela offers charm, comfort and genuine Moroccan hospitality. As a travel specialist I would highly recommend it for my clients.
