We stayed for one night at the Hotel Transatlantique while in Meknes.Room – Cons1-The bathroom had some mold on the tiles in the shower (see pics).2-Outdated room (see pics).3-No safe.4-No amenities except hand soap, shampoo, and shower gel — not even tissues in the room.5-Free Wi-Fi works mostly around the lobby.6-The toilet is separate from the bathroom, in a different section (see pic).Room – Pros1-Comfortable bed.2-The room had a fridge.LocationThe hotel has a nice view of the city.Hotel Grounds1-There are two outdoor swimming pools. The larger one was empty of people during our stay, and the pool ladders were missing parts and had rust around the holes.2-The main restaurant offers buffet-style breakfast, lunch, and dinner.3-Bar near the entrance next to the smaller pool – very poor service; we ordered two beers and, after waiting 20 minutes, left.4-Snack bar next to the other pool (didn’t use).5-Restaurant next to the other pool (didn’t use).BuffetWe only had breakfast and dinner, which were included in our package. Note that drinks — including water — are not complimentary. Breakfast was poor, and dinner was just okay, following a fixed menu.Overall ImpressionThis 1923 hotel is beautiful but, sadly, due to a lack of maintenance, it doesn’t deserve a 4-star rating — more like a 3-star. The staff are mostly friendly and helpful, with some exceptions, such as at the bar or when there was confusion about where our supper was being served. Overall, the pool next to the bar and the view are great, but the rest is a letdown.

Hotel with character ideally placed to visit Meknes

Seeing dire reviews of some of the 3-4 star hotels in Meknes, I initially booked the Ibis half way between the station and the old city but changed my booking to the Transatlantique as it had lovely gardens and pool in the photos. I stayed one night and the price was only slightly more than the Ibis. I am letting the photos speak for themselves as the hotel doesn't seem to have any recent reviews. If you want character, space and nostalgia this is the place. Ok, if you go down on all fours and check skirting boards you will find holes and marks but the hotel was built with quality furnishings and fittings which have lasted well. The bedroom I had was in the newer wing and termed superior. Classic rooms are smaller but perfectly adequate. Breakfast was very tired and unmemorable. Dinner was much better. There aren't a lot of shops or places to eat in the area around the hotel but I walked down the hill to the old town in 30 mins. Taxis are very cheap. I hired a taxi through the hotel to take me to Volubilis and on to Fez. One of the most interesting places I chose to stay during my tour of Morocco.

Remembrance if times gone by

Although one can see that the place is past its glorious days, that‘s exactly the charme of it. Staff was very friendly, food in the restaurant good and service at the table a remembrance of days gone by. Location somewhat far from the centre, but the garden makes it a nice location to stay. We liked it!

The help from the staff was faultless, and the interior was an opulence of tiling. The room was adequate although some bath salts would have been welcome. The biggest disappointment was the meal. The fillet of bass was poorly cooked and tasteless. The garlic sauce had no piquancy and was also tasteless. The small amount of vegetables were overcooked. Breakfast was a similar disappointment. M'semn, boiled eggs and small croissant. I've eaten in petrol stations and auberge all over Morocco and this was the worst meal if been given. Everybody gives you water with your food, except here. Walk into town to eat. Cheaper and much better cooked meals are available.

The room was big enough but WiFi connection was really bad for a 4 star hotel the room was cold for a December night there was no water to drink. The television was not working properly it was scrambled and the list of the channels which was written on the hotel card was completely wrong the reception was kind and Guiding the hotel did not knew what was my reservation
