  Were relocated to inferior accommodation without notice

  With it's excellent facilities, restaurant, bar, room service, sat. TV, wellness centre, etc. I was really happy when we booked this facility several months before we travelled. Unfortunately, we were not able to enjoy ANY of this as, upon arrival, a gentleman who we believe was the owner had "transferred" us to another riad he owned, some 10 minutes away.The room at the new riad, (Riad Esmerelda), was quite good, but was up 44 steps on the roof terrace and had NONE of the facilities listed above for Dar El Kebira. We certainly would not have booked it.We went back to the original accommodation to complain, but were advised that the riad was full, (subsequently we found that they had accepted a large booking from a group of UK visitors and we were not the only quests who had been moved to inferior facilities). When we asked for a table at the restaurant, again we were advised they were full with "residents" but after a somewhat lively discussion as to our status, a table was laid for us in a lobby area.The restaurant staff at Dar El Kebira were obviously well trained, wore uniforms and provided excellent food and service. Unfortunately, those at Riad Esmerelda, (although very pleasant people), were, I suspect, very new, untrained and a little out of their depth. Our room was never serviced whilst we were there, so we made our own beds and even had to go and find our own toilet rolls!So, if you actually get to stay at Dar El Kebira, I am sure you will have a good time, but be aware that it appears to be common practice to change your reservation when you arrive, in which case, good luck.   Tired Riad in Rabat

  At first glance, this Riad Dar El Kebira is beautiful and traditional. But after staying here two nights, it became stuffy and aged. There was a peculiar smell to our rooms, so even though we know it was “cleaned”, we doubt it had been deep cleaned for a really long time. Our biggest issue with the Riad was the lack of communication. The staff was very hard working and tried very hard to help, but the general manager was no help at all and could be overheard berating his staff. We tried to arrange a city tour through the Riad, but after two hours of waiting around and being told the guide was on his way, we gave up and ventured out on our own. Unless you really want to stay in the Medina, we recommend staying in a more modern place and visiting the Medina for a few hours instead.   I am sorry but the place is not a Luxe place!!!

  I am sorry of not being more generous towards this Riad as the staff is incredible kind and helpful and is the best asset. The place is very clean but…the right term to describe the hotel is not luxe but quaint.The rooms are cute (and very small) but definitely tired as are the bathrooms and also the common parts really need refreshing and updating to bring the place to the 21st century!!! The Road is very conveniently located in the Medina so is perfect for walking almost anywhere.   Great access to the kasbah and heart of the medina.

  Great signage to location of riad. Walking distance to the Kasbah and shopping inside the medina. Comfortable room on the first floor (not ground floor). Delicious breakfast and attentive service.
