Not a Good Experience, this Time

    rating07 Jun 2026

had a very decent experience, especially the staff were v.good. However this past May 2026 the experience was dreadful. I stayed 3 nights and the coffee/tea stand was never refilled, never. When I finally asked for my room to be made up a guy knocked on the door, then he came back about 10 mins later, placed a couple of towels on a seat just inside the door and left, that is taking the P and is not a room clean. I give it a two only because some of the staff were present and I was allowed to leave my suite case in the hotel on my last day after checkout which was 11am, not the worst. Anyway other than that the experience was less than stellar, oh one thing that bugged me, they has a industrial sized water dispenser in reception, a bottle but not 1 cup in evidence for the 4 days I was there, this screams CHEAP, they have the water but don’t want people using it, I’m already regretting that extra review point. Hotel DM, Owner at Hotel Amsterdam - De Roode Leeuw, responded to this review Greetings from Amsterdam!Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us, and for acknowledging our team members who made a positive impression during your stay. We are truly sorry to hear that this visit did not live up to your previous experience with us, and we understand how disappointing that must have been. The points you have raised regarding the upkeep of your room and the small details that matter to a comfortable stay have been noted carefully and passed on to the relevant members of our team. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us, as we would welcome the chance to speak with you personally. Doesn’t worth the money

    rating30 May 2026

I would like to start with the positives of this hotel, it is in the very center and walking distance to all the main tourist attractions, the hotel staff are very pleasant and try to help. As for the disadvantages, the room was not ready and we arrived after 3 pm, as an excuse we could use the restaurant and have a drink of our choice, the room was spacious for three adults, but the floor was very dirty and dusty, the bathroom was clean but not the others, the water did not flow, the shower head in the bathtub was damaged, tears were flowing, on the toilet door there were noticeable stains from the previous guests' make-up, the mattresses on the double bed were separated and were sliding off the bed. There was nowhere to sit in the room except the bed, we asked for an extra chair or armchair but we were not granted. We are not demanding at all, but for the price of 1000 euros for three nights I would expect a slightly better approach. The hotel also did not inform me about the forgotten hair straightener that I left there, I do not expect it to be sent to my address but an email or message would be acceptable. The price absolutely did not correspond to the services and certainly not 4 stars, maximum 3 and I am adding a lot. Hotel DM, Owner at Hotel Amsterdam - De Roode Leeuw, responded to this review Dear Alice,Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are pleased our location worked in your favour, and we are genuinely sorry to hear that the condition of your room did not meet the level of care and attention we pride ourselves on. Please know that feedback like yours is taken seriously and passed on to the relevant members of our team without delay. We would hate for this to be your lasting memory of a stay with us, and we hope you will give us the chance to show you what we are truly capable of. With over a century of welcoming guests to the heart of this beautiful city, your comfort and satisfaction remain at the very core of everything we do.Kind regards, Hotel Management Tel: +31 20 5550666

    Romantic anniversary weekend

    rating03 May 2026

Location great for amsterdam tourist attractions, trains and trams. We ate here at the adjoining restaurant for breakfast once which was nice. Theres an option for buffet for €20 which we did not have but it all looked delicious. VERY comfortable bed,we slept very well. All hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Easy check in and check out. We used their free locker service for all our luggage which was so convenient! We stupidly forgot some clothes after checking out and went back to ask for it,they had bagged and labelled it and located this for us which we were very grateful. One morning our electrics tripped out,I reported it to reception and by the time we returned from our day out it was resolved. Nothing was any trouble. The double room on second floor (217) was very clean and tidy, great coffee machine! No view but we didnt care. Room, towels, tea and coffees replenished daily. Everything worked. WiFi was fast and consistent which was really handy for researching where to go! LOADS of places to eat within walking distance. We were spoilt for choice where to go for our meals and never bored. We went to Queens head gay bar drag night Thursdays which was alot of fun and cocktails were strong! We were very lucky with the weather and the sunshine made everything look even more beautiful. We would definitely stay here again for its perfect location, facilities, customer service and comfort. Unfortunately littering was really awful, bins overflowing, vomit, broke glass and food on the pavements evidence from the night before. We watched cleaners and steet sweepers with jet washers work hard every morning to tidy up the streets for it to be sadly twice as bad within hours! This is one of the unpleasant sides of Amsterdam which spoilt such a beautiful, friendly city. Hotel DM, Owner at Hotel Amsterdam - De Roode Leeuw, responded to this review Dear Vicky,Thank you so much for sharing your experience - what a lovely way to celebrate your anniversary. We are really happy to hear that you felt well looked after by the team and that you were able to enjoy a comfortable stay, from a good night’s sleep to the little things like the luggage service and having everything sorted so smoothly for you at Hotel Amsterdam De Roode Leeuw. Quiet relaxing single

    rating21 Apr 2026

I booked a single room, and though it was 10’x10’ it was comfortable, thoughtfully appointed and clean. Made a request for quiet room and was give a room over looking central air shaft (they might have called it a courtyard). Though there was no view, it was quiet, had windows that could open for fresh air and private shower/bathroom was well appointed. The location could not be more convenient, near central station, just steps from Dam square and right on the tram line. I would defiantly consider booking again if the price is right (in a rather expensive city for accommodations). Hotel DM, Owner at Hotel Amsterdam - De Roode Leeuw, responded to this review Dear Kristan,Thank you for sharing your feedback following your stay at Hotel Amsterdam De Roode Leeuw.
