Blaring music filled our room for 4 hours our last night there.

    rating12 May 2026

I will say that overall our 8 night stay was enjoyable-up until tonight, our last night before returning home to the US. We went out for dinner and arrived back at the hotel at around 7:45. Soon after music started blaring from the Cafe American into our room on the first floor. A band playing loudly to a large crowd-on a Wednesday night. We tolerated it until about 10 AM and called the front desk to find out how much longer the music would continue. “About another hour” we were told. The only accommodation they would make was to “move us to the top floor”. Nope-I’m not moving all our things, which are not yet 100% together for our trip home tomorrow. At 11:14 the music was still blaring, as we hoped to be asleep by this point, but there was no way that was happening. Called the desk again. Now we’re told the music will go until midnight. And we will have to take the issue up with the manager in the morning. For a hotel charging well over €300 per night I’d expect better respect for those staying here. Thank you for ruining what was other wise a delightful stay. Perhaps warning us during the day that our room may bear the brunt of the noise of a large gathering and band sometime during the day and then offering us the option of moving would have been better than offering it at 10 PM after suffering through it for two hours. It’s now 11:42 and the music continues…… Jeffrey van Veen, Guest Services / Front Office at Clayton Hotel Amsterdam American, responded to this review Dear Jeffrey, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are truly sorry to read that your final evening with us impacted what had otherwise been an enjoyable 8-night stay. We completely understand how frustrating and disappointing this must have been, especially before a long journey home. While we occasionally host events in Café Americain, we regret that the noise disturbance affected your comfort and that we did not communicate this proactively earlier in the day. We also understand your frustration regarding the timing of the room move offer. Your comments have been shared with our management team, as this is certainly not the lasting impression we wish to leave with our guests. We do sincerely appreciate your kind words about the remainder of your stay and thank you for taking the time to provide such detailed feedback.Warm regards, Amber - Front Office

    Something of a disappointment

    rating03 May 2026

Visited to celebrate my 70th birthday. Booked a deluxe room. TV ceased to work on third day of stay and could not be fixed since technical staff finish at 6.00pm. it was reported before then but hey ho! Staff have been amazing up until this point. Will see how this experience reflect on any refund since the hotel demanded payment at time of booking. Jeffrey van Veen, Guest Services / Front Office at Clayton Hotel Amsterdam American, responded to this review Dear John, Thank you for your feedback, and firstly, happy 70th birthday once again. We’re sorry to hear that part of your stay was disappointing, especially during such a special occasion. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the television issue. While our technical team is available until 5:00 PM, we regret that the matter could not be resolved during your stay. It is, however, wonderful to hear that our staff otherwise made a positive impression on you throughout your visit. We appreciate your comments and thank you for taking the time to share them with us.Warm regards, Amber - Front Office

    A very pleasant stay

A very good hotel in a superb location with very friendly and helpful staff. Bar and restaurant were very stylish with a warm ambiance. Nice outside seating area. Spacious rooms. Only con is that the carpet in our room even though clean had old stains and the wooden floor was squeaking. Breakfast also could improve Jeffrey van Veen, Guest Services / Front Office at Clayton Hotel Amsterdam American, responded to this review Dear Katia, Thank you for your kind review. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed our central location, spacious rooms, and the warm atmosphere in our bar and restaurant. A terrible experience.

    rating25 Apr 2026

I have spent the last 65 years traveling the globe and without doubt our hotel room at the Clayton Hotel Amsterdam is the worst we have ever experienced. I paid 1,413 euros for four nights in a De Lux room. The room had three hand basins non of which would hold any water. The towels were like sandpaper. The mirrors were set so high my wife could not use them. The lighting was the most bizarre I have ever seen, consequently the room was very dark. In terms of value for money I would rate it zero. The first two nights the weather was wet and cold, however when turning on the heating it was so noisy sleep was impossible. I complained about the room and asked for a change but was told there were no other rooms available. We just did not have the time to find another hotel. I refuse to believe that the hotel management did not know of these faults prior to our visit but chose to do nothing about it. Other aspects of the hotel were good but that did not compensate us for what was a terrible and very unpleasant experience. Jeffrey van Veen, Guest Services / Front Office at Clayton Hotel Amsterdam American, responded to this review Dear Guest, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are truly sorry to read that your stay did not meet expectations and regret the discomfort you experienced with the room facilities, lighting, and heating. This is certainly not the experience we aim to provide our guests. We appreciate you bringing these matters to our attention, and your comments have been shared with our management and maintenance teams for careful review and follow-up. While we are pleased to hear that there were some positive aspects to your stay, we sincerely regret that they did not outweigh the frustrations you encountered.Thank you again for your detailed feedback, as it helps us identify areas where improvement is needed.Warm regards, Amber - Front Office

Check in was very efficient - we were early but it was easy to store luggage( and at the end of our stay!) The hotel and public areas were very clean and well presented .Our room had a balcony and overlooked the fountains outside- even though there were many trams outside they couldn’t be heard through the doors.Bed and facilities were very good .Our stay was very good and the position of the hotel was excellent! Jeffrey van Veen, Gastenservice/Front Office at Clayton Hotel Amsterdam American, responded to this review Dear Guest, Thank you so much for your nice review about your stay with us! Good to read you liked our hotel and our amazing location. We can't wait to welcome you back soon!Greetings, Jeffrey van VeenFront Office Manager
