  Clothing Went Missing During My Stay

  Laundry Bag Containing Clothing Went MissingI stayed at Die Port Van Cleve in Amsterdam and unfortunately a white hotel-provided laundry bag containing approximately £450 worth of clothing went missing on the day of checkout.The bag was not my own. It was a white plastic laundry bag provided by the hotel and displayed a laundry symbol for guest laundry services. The bag contained a Ralph Lauren jumper, Represent T-shirt, Diesel T-shirt, additional clothing and underwear.The original hotel and my subsequent hotel were located approximately one minute apart. I made no stops between leaving the hotel and arriving at the next hotel.After discovering the bag was missing, I immediately contacted both hotels. The subsequent hotel checked lost property and confirmed that nothing matching the description had been handed in. They then reviewed CCTV footage and confirmed that I arrived at approximately 10:54am and did not arrive carrying the laundry bag.Despite repeated enquiries over two days, searches of housekeeping, laundry facilities and lost property, the bag was never recovered.What concerned me most was the handling of the matter. During a discussion with management, I was informed that CCTV footage reviewed by the hotel did not identify me leaving during the relevant period. Given that I had already arrived at my subsequent hotel by 10:54am, approximately one minute away, I found this difficult to understand.When I questioned this and sought further clarification, the discussion became increasingly confrontational and I was ultimately told to leave the hotel, with the police being mentioned if I did not do so.To the hotel's credit, management later responded to my formal complaint in writing and confirmed that searches had been carried out. However, the disappearance of the bag remains unexplained and the property has never been recovered.A very frustrating experience that left me significantly out of pocket and with more questions than answers. We genuinely wish these efforts had produced a different outcome.As much as we wanted to help, the footage we reviewed could not establish whether the bag was being carried, and so we were unable to determine at which point it went missing. We responded in writing to your formal complaint and did everything within our means to assist. We understand how upsetting and frustrating this has been, and we are sincerely sorry that we could not bring it to the resolution you had hoped for.   Good location and service -- rooms lack drawers or closets for clothes

  Die Port van Cleve has a perfect location off Dam Square and on the tram line. It’s in a lovely historical building. The front staff is terrific -- friendly, knowledgeable and very accommodating. A popular restaurant and pub are on premises. The lobby, especially the Brewery room (when open), is inviting to relax and read. One downside is that the rooms have no closets and no drawers for clothes, or anything else. With neither, everything – tops, slacks, pajamas and all else – end up in the open, wherever there is space. There’s a coat rack with a tiny shelf and an even smaller drawer at floor level. My clothes were either hanging in plain sight or piled wherever I found a spot -- on the tiny shelf, on the desk, on the wide window sill. The coat rack also takes up space in an already compact room. I stayed at this hotel years ago in a traditional pre-renovated room and it had storage – drawers for sure, and maybe a closet, if my memory is correct. That worked much better for the traveler.   Just had a three night stay here..The outside of the building is stunning with a great history..We had the queen room which had a huge comfy bed and a large modern en suite with plenty of hot water. There was also a safe and a tv.   This place deserves higher stars. We could not fault anything! The staff were amazing, offered recommendations, took our luggage for us, had our room ready early. Housekeeping were great and towels can be replaced if you wish. Definitely an amazing hotel with a great location to all around the city. Pub and restaurant right next door too.   My daughter and I stayed at the Hotel Die Port Van Cleve for 10 days as we explored the Netherlands. The hotel was everything we hoped it would be. From arrival to departure the service was outstanding with each staff member assisting us with our questions or needs. The hotel's location can't be beat! It is an easy walk to the museums, train station, parks, and attractions along with a tram stop immediately across the street that will get you anywhere in the city.Upon early arrival I was able to safely store my luggage, grab a cup of tea and orient myself and head across the street to explore the Royal Palace and New Church. After which I returned, and our room was ready (well before check in time). I reserved a junior suite and the room was lovely. We were glad to have the extra space for the longer stay and the view from the room was amazing as it looked out at the palace across the street. Room was very clean and well appointed, surprisingly quiet considering the age and location of the hotel. We were greeted by reception staff each time we came and left the hotel, and they provided with excellent recommendations throughout the stay.We ate breakfast daily in the restaurant. It was a well-appointed buffet with plenty of options from which to choose. The hotel bar has a neat atmosphere--we ate a light meal there and enjoyed talking with staff about the history, art and highlights of the hotel. The hotel restaurant had just reopened following renovations, although we didn't dine for dinner as it was booked out, we heard very positive reviews from diners.
