    A diamond in Amsterdam.

The Hotel Estheréa is full of quirky delights. Each room is decorated in its own unique style and is a very special space. We have stayed there on four different occasions and would recommend this hotel to anyone planning a stay in Amsterdam - the reception area and bar/breakfast room are decorated to the highest standard and I can almost guarantee that you will never have stayed anywhere quite like it.Staff members are friendly and knowledgeable and there is always a warm welcome, not least from the two cats who call the hotel home.Bar snacks are excellent - you must try the fries - and there’s a good range of cocktails etc on offer. Breakfast has plenty of options available, to suit all tastes. The Estheréa is well situated for sightseeing.

Nice property with some caveats ...

    rating06 Jun 2026

The hotel's aesthetics are quite appealing and create a charming first impression. Overall, the property is attractive, though some areas are beginning to show signs of wear and could benefit from a refresh to maintain a more upscale feel. One aspect that didn't live up to the hype was the much-discussed "snacks" that many reviewers rave about. In reality, they consisted of packaged cookies, which were underwhelming. Guests looking for a memorable treat would be far better served by visiting one of the excellent local bakeries nearby.Breakfast was very good, although it comes at an additional cost. The bar staff in the evenings were consistently friendly and welcoming; however, during our five-night stay, the bar never seemed to have all of the items available from its "bites" menu, which was disappointing when you planned on having that be your dinner after a long day of sightseeing. The guest rooms are admittedly small, but that's to be expected given the historic nature of the property and wasn't a surprise. Ours was very well appointed with a very comfortable bed.The most significant drawback, in my opinion, was the level of customer service at the front desk. The property appears to be staffed primarily by very young employees who often lacked the maturity and experience needed to provide the polished service one would expect from a top-tier hotel. Simple guest-service situations sometimes felt as though they were being handled by individuals who had not yet developed the judgment and professionalism that come with experience. That said, would I stay here again? Yes. The location is excellent, and I highly recommend Casa di David for dinner—it's just a short walk away and absolutely fabulous. I would return, but with tempered expectations regarding front desk service. With stronger training and more experienced hospitality leadership, this property could elevate itself from a good stay to a truly exceptional one.

    Well-Appointed & Well-Located

    rating31 May 2026

Nearly everything about the Estherea is fantastic - the location, the atmosphere, the rooms (design-wise, this is basically a more sophisticated Barbie's Dream Hotel, and that's a huge compliment), and especially how clean and well-kept everything is. It's rife with modern amenities without sacrificing any charm, and it's truly an enjoyable place to stay. The staff was absolutely lovely and helpful, even when the volume of people in the lobby was overwhelming (and some of them not being very polite to the staff, unfortunately), and had great recommendations for coffee and restaurants in the area. There is a pleasant hum of city noise, but nothing that would keep anyone awake. The only reason I have to rate this a 4/5 is the price; having stayed at comparable properties in Amsterdam (and in other cities on this trip), I would say there needs to be a little more in the way of amenities to justify the cost, e.g. even offering something beyond water in the mini-bar, or even tea sachets (yes, coffee and tea are available for free in the lobby, but you don't always want to leave your room to make a cup of tea). If you can get it for under 350 Euro / night, do it.

    Overall quite good

    rating28 May 2026

Our bedroom was the one shown on the website, so no complaints there. The lobby and breakfast room are very stylish and there’s free hot drinks, water and cake/biscuits.The bedroom was quite small though- not much space around the bed and not much space for clothes in the wardrobe- mainly because it was full of the ironing board and luggage rack.Shower over bath and the bathroom is really small. There’s no proper door - just cupboard doors basically, with a gap in the middle, so lacking in privacy. Disappointing for a 4 star hotel.

A gem of a hotel in the best district in Amsterdam

    rating25 May 2026

Excellent stay. Lovely lobby/facilities, adorable, quiet and comfotable room, exceptional service and superb location along the canal. There was even an elevator for my elderly mom, which is difficult to find in the Jordaan district!!! Would recommend to anyone visiting Amsterdam.
