Smart hotel but staff not always helpful

    rating07 Jun 2026

We had stayed in an aparthotel in Gent before coming to Amsterdam and checking in at The July it felt like we'd gone from a 3 star hotel to a 5 star one. The reception staff were all very friendly and helpful and the room was excellent. We were on the 4th floor and had great views over the water. We had a meal the evening we arrived. The service was a bit slow but it was during the hot weather and the place was very busy. The breakfasts were good with a choice of cereal, bread, pastries etc or you could order a cooked meal from the menu. Unfortunately on our last morning I wasn't given a menu but as we didn't have much time the buffet food was fine. They did seem a bit short-staffed at breakfast time and at the bar in the evening. And if you want to cook your own meals there are food shops about a 5 minute walk away. One downside of staying there was that we didn't seem to be near any trams but the walk in to the centre of town only took about 15 minutes. Also the taxi from Zuid train station cost 50 euros but from the hotel to Centraal is was 20 euros. The July BoatandCo, Overig at Hotel BOAT & CO, responded to this review Dear ColinbB4910QT,Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback about your stay.We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your room, the views over the water, and the warm welcome from our reception team. It is especially rewarding to know that the quality of your experience stood out and that you appreciated the comfort and design of the hotel. We also appreciate your comments regarding the restaurant and breakfast service. While we are pleased that you enjoyed the food and breakfast offerings, we apologize for the occasions when service felt slow and for the oversight with the breakfast menu on your final morning. Your feedback is valuable and will be shared with our team as we continue to improve the guest experience, especially during busy periods.Thank you as well for highlighting our convenient location and nearby amenities. We understand that transport options and taxi fares can sometimes be confusing, and we appreciate you sharing your observations for future guests. It was a pleasure to have you stay with us, and we hope to welcome you back to Amsterdam for an even better experience next time.Kind regards,NoortjeJunior Duty Manager

Go-to place when I am in Adam

    rating08 Feb 2026

We stayed here in September and then again in December: great rooms, superclean and love the kitchen area. Everything is there for you to make your own breakfast or dinner if you are fed up with eating out. All materials used are of good quality from shower head to shampoo to teatowel to dishwasher. Super comfy beds, big couch, large tv (love Dutch TV when I am in NL).The only things is there are only 2 chairs at the kitchen table: it is a high table. So when we are there, we cannot have friends over for a drink or bite as not enough seats. There is a gym and nice spa on site, bikes to rent, carpark when needed and bowl of fruit at the reception to keep you healthy. Restaurant is also very nice and the terrace is great in Summer. In winter you have the nice views over the water and even get to watch die-hards going for a swimLaundry room available where you can also find additional dishwashing pods etc.Reception if very helpful, for my request for an extra duvet to some milk for my morning latteWe will return! The July BoatandCo, Other at Hotel BOAT & CO, responded to this review Dear MM1908,Thank you so much for this wonderful and detailed review! We are happy to hear that you have chosen us as your go-to place in Amsterdam and that you enjoyed your stays in both September and December. It’s great to know the rooms, kitchen facilities, comfort of the beds, and even the little details (from shampoo to tea towels) stood out for you. And we love that you enjoyed Dutch TV.We are glad our reception team could help with the extra duvet and milk for your latte; it’s the small things that matter. We really appreciate your constructive feedback about the seating at the kitchen table. That’s a valuable note! We are happy to share that our one-bedroom apartments will soon be furnished with four dining chairs. If you are staying in one of our studios and would like to have friends over during your next visit, just let our reception team know, we’ll be more than happy to arrange extra chairs for you and your friend! We are looking forward to welcoming you back again very soon! Excellent from start to finish

We booked the Boat & Co for theee nights while we explored Amsterdam. Absolutely thrilled with our choice. We deliberately chose a location a little out of the centre but with an easy walk. On arrival we were greeted with a lovely, warm welcome. The 1 bed apartment was perfect, everything you could possibly need while away. Spacious, clean, with a great view of the river. The reception and bar team were always happy and polite. We would definitely use the Boat & Co again. The July BoatandCo, Overig at Hotel BOAT & CO, responded to this review Dear Nuttyjnr,Super! A peaceful haven with the city close by!

    rating09 Aug 2025

We certainly hit the jackpot when we booked The July Boat & Co. It’s just over a 30 minute walk from Amsterdam Centraal, but you can get a bus or you can take the free ferry from Centraal to NSDM, then another free ferry (F7) from NSDM to Pontsteiger. Pontsteiger is a five minute walk to The July. The hotel is beautiful and the hotel staff are very friendly. Our studio apartment was on the 4th floor (there are two lifts) and we had a wonderful view of the waterfront. The bed was big and comfortable, great shower and kitchen facilities. The fridge and cupboard was well stocked, no mention of payment, but when I asked at the reception I was given a “honesty”price list that should’ve been present. The room has climate control, so it was lovely a cool when it was hot outside. You can have your room freshened and clean towels on request. We came back one day to find this had been done without requesting……..I would’ve tidied our belongings up a bit had I known 😂 however we appreciated it.Breakfast in the restaurant was great. You can choose one item from the cooked menu and also help yourself to unlimited hot drinks, milk, fruit juices, yoghurts, pastries, fruit, jams, nuts, seeds etc. It was such a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere we were happy to spend some time there. I noticed they had a cupboard of games to borrow (UNO, Rummikub etc.). The hotel does offer free bike hire too, but we enjoyed walking. Some business people were working on their laptops and people were passing through to use the gym.The outside (deck) area is wonderfully peaceful. Many people come for a swim (my husband said the water was warmer than it looks), there was yoga outside every morning and paddle boarding too. It was lovely just to soak in the sights of the boats and ferries passing by. On our last evening (Friday) there was a well attended salsa event on the deck that was great to watch. (I will say, the rooms are quite sound proofed so you wouldn’t be disturbed by anything outside.)The Houthaven area surrounding the hotel is lovely and peaceful, you would never believe the city is so close. There are beautiful apartments and waterways with little bridges, and a real family atmosphere, with a children’s play park. There is a supermarket very close by and lots of little businesses and takeaways. If you follow the shopping street it leads into the city.I’m so glad we chose the July, our peaceful little haven after busy sightseeing days.Thank you to all the staff for making our stay so pleasant.
