    Ridiculously Small Room

    rating12 Jun 2026

Very disappointing stay. Do not stay here. We stayed at Hotel van de Vijsel at the end of our river cruise and were shocked by how small the room was. The bed was pushed into a corner, meaning one person had to climb over the other just to get to the bathroom. There was also nowhere to put two suitcases, so they ended up creating an obstacle course every time we needed to move around the room. The layout was completely impractical for two guests. Even the television was mounted in a position where it could not be viewed from the bed. The only way to watch it would have been to stand in the corner next to the suitcases. The room was simply not suitable for two people. It felt cramped and uncomfortable.

    Good stay

New and renovated hotel with ship-like design language. Access to terrace and shared internal area from rooms. However the noise insulation between the room isn't great.

    Disappointing room and breakfast

    rating05 Jun 2026

The room was incredibly small the bed was pushed to the far side of the room against the slanted roof which meant that it was inaccessible for tall people and the gap at the foot of the bed was incredibly thin meaning it was incredibly inconvenient getting to the far side of the bed. There was no space for luggage and immediately as you walk into the room you are faced with another thin strip of carpet and a clothes hanger which will hit you every time you walk past. The room itself was not clean and you can see a build-up of dust in the coffee machine, rubbish by the bed and in the bathroom the showerhead was caked with limescale and black mould grew in the corners of the shower. The 'Buffet Style' breakfast was incredibly limited and basic. The hot food was also served at a lukewarm temperature. The staff were nice and the location was great, a 15-20 minute walk for most things.

Boutique hotel close to city centre

    rating03 Jun 2026

Boutique style hotel within walking distance of the city centre. Check in was quick, with a self-service option. We were in one of the rooms at the front of the hotel, a comfort twin rooms on the third floor. The room was quite small but well laid out with a hanging open clothes rail, rather than a wardrobe which lends an industrial chic style to the room. There was a small balcony which would have been better if we could have opened the door enough to get a chair out there. One feature we didn’t like was that the balcony also had a door directly to the loft lobby which couldn’t be locked, which raised concerns about security. The shower room was fully tiled and well stocked with shampoo, shower gel, body lotion and hand soap: I only realised after a trip the the sipermarket that conditio er is also available on request. It would have been good to have a sign in the room or bathroom to tell us this rather than just a sign in the lift. The beds were wry comfortable and the temperature of the room was just right. The tv remote was rubbish, even after we asked for replacement batteries. Simply turning on the tv was difficult and when we did get it working, the picture was small and it was impossible to make it full screen. There was a Marshall Bluetooth speaker in the room which was a nice touch and connected easily. Also a nespresso coffee machine and a kettle. It would have been nice to have some decaf options. The rainfall shower was easy to operate and the slope of the shower tray meant that it was easy to shower without flooding the room. We could have done with a couple more shelves for storage, even though we were travelling g light. Breakfast is buffet style from 7-11am. Bacon, scramble egg and chicken sausage plus two types of bread, bread rolls and pastries. We only noticed on the third day a menus which mentioned fried eggs, omelette and waffles presumably available to order but no one mentioned this to us and we didn’t see anyone else order anything’s. It would be better for the staff to inform us of them process which would have been welcome but we felt a bit awkward asking. They run an honesty bar, with fridges stocked with beer, wine and various soft drinks. Overall we had a pleasant stay - the room was very clean and it was nice to stay in a smaller hotel with personality. With a coulple of tweaks they could earn a five star rating!
