    Watch and Credit Card Stolen in hotel room, Zero Investigation and support from the hotel

    I’ve stayed at this hotel 15+ times and always considered it a safe and reliable place, until my last experience.During my stay in room 812, while I was at breakfast (roughly 9:20–10:20), someone entered my room and stole my watch and credit card directly from my wallet. Minutes later the card was used in Hoofddorp. I reported it immediately at the front desk, sent all details in writing and formally requested an internal investigation. I also filed police reports in both the Netherlands and Germany, exactly as the hotel instructed.The hotel initially said they would check camera footage, housekeeping log and electronic door lock system. At that point I was super optimistic and thought they really had my back.Later they replied with just one sentence: “Now it looks like the door was not fully closed.” Which is btw physically impossible in this hotel, the doors have a strong magnetic automatic closing system. Even if you deliberately try to leave the tiniest gap, the mechanism pulls the door shut with pressure and it locks completely. I stayed at the hotel again just two weeks later and personally tested it multiple times, it is impossible to leave the door even slightly ajar. The hotel knows this perfectly well.After that single reply the hotel went completely silent. All my follow-up emails have been ignored. Three months have now passed. No further updates, no conclusion, no accountability, nothing. Having all the logs, cameras and evidence, they chose to do nothing, protect whoever did it, and simply wait for me to go away.Because of this experience I no longer trust leaving anything valuable in the room. On my next stay I had to carry all my belongings with me to the gym and sauna like a paranoid tourist. That is not how a decent hotel should make its guests feel.I am writing this review not out of anger, but to warn other guests: do not leave valuables in your room at Van der Valk Amsterdam. The hotel has shown that when theft happens, they will not protect you, they will not investigate seriously, and they will not give you answers. They will simply ignore you until you disappear.If you value your property and basic honesty from a hotel, choose another place.

    We stayed at the Van Der Valk Amsterdam Amstel for 3 nights. Accessible twin room, just wonderful. Loved the location out of the city a little, easy to get around, we had a car. Parking was €25 per night but underground car park was so easy to use and secure, the best thing was going could go to the guest room floors directly from there. Breakfast which we paid for included in our stay was just top notch, every single thing you could ever want for breakfast, but of a very high quality and presentation. Staff were absolutely professional, polite and very helpful. Beds comfortable and housekeeping very good. Would highly recommend and stay again if visiting Amsterdam! Thank you.     We had a wonderful time with our baby. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. Special thanks to Jasper, a trainee who welcomed us and helped us during our stay. Totally recommend, clean rooms, great breakfast and spa area! It’s already our second stay here!

    I really wanted to like this hotel, but the service is pretty terrible for what is supposed to be an upscale property. On check-in, we were left waiting for over 15 minutes while the front desk agents were milling about with absolutely no urgency while a line built up behind us. At the bar, we had to ask for our check 4 times and chase down both the waiter and bartender before getting it. We booked two connecting rooms and *neither* one of them had shower gel upon check-in, so we assumed they would be replaced by housekeeping the next day. Nope. So I went to the front desk to get one; the front desk said they would send it in ten minutes. 30 minutes later, and still nothing. I had to call again before it finally came. Now on check out date, I go to breakfast and come back, and housekeeping has already started flipping one of the rooms (and had locked the connecting door!), even though I hadn’t fully packed up the room yet. Luckily she was still there when I returned, or my daughter’s favorite stuffed animals would have been sent to lost and found. On the positive side, the rooms are spacious and the facilities are nice. The food in the restaurant is also pretty good. Just don’t expect anything resembling warm, friendly service while you’re here.
