  A weekend here with 2 teenagers. Checked in late & despite being very accommodating, chap on reception desk was a bit unsure about some of our queries. The self service check in meant we didn’t receive details about when/where breakfast would be served. Bedside light not working/no TV reception. Both of these had to wait until the next day. Worth noting that it’s square pillows on each bed. We requested more as we felt one per bed was not enough. We had a room on the ground floor. It was average, at best. Lots of stains/marks on the walls & the room had quite a strong odour of damp. It was also very cold on arrival. Only 3 hangers in the wardrobe between 4 of us. The damp smell subdued a little the next day. Perhaps because we put the air con on. Also worth noting the air con is noisy. Bathroom seemed more updated that the room. Great shower. 👍🏻Breakfast in the hotel was lovely. A very friendly & welcoming atmosphere from staff. A great selection of items. Location is a little out of town but very easy to hop on a tram into city centre. Some nice little independent eateries nearby, and a Jumbo & Albert Hein too. Excellent market on the doorstep with lovely, fresh produce. Overall, a great stay. Let down a little by the condition of the room.

  The reception staff were always friendly and helpful and ready to assist with any questions we had. A big thank you and well done to the back office reception, the girls who cleaned our room, and the breakfast buffet team. From Room 275/277

  This was my second stay at the XO Hotels Blue Square. I arrived on 17 October and departed a week later. I have nothing but compliments for the staff at this hotel. For every request I made, the first response was "of course!". I had requested a room with a view out over the water in the back, that was all ready for me. I had booked a bicycle, I asked to exchange the first one they gave me. No problem. Additionally, there were some very loud group of young men outside the window one evening. The male receptionist immediately stepped out to ask them to be quiet. Location is ideal for me. I like the 20 min ride into the centre, which can be accomplished nearly two thirds of the way in parks. Room was quiet. But the main thing is the superb service I think. Thank you to all of you! I will be back next time I come to Amsterdam.

  Get a hotel in the city centre

  We booked this hotel because it was cheap, even though it’s a drive away from Amsterdam city centre. We should’ve spent a bit extra and got a hotel in the city because we ended up spending money on Ubers and buses to get to and from the city. There isn’t much going on in the area this hotel is situated in. The hotel itself is fine. The staff were very helpful, rooms were clean, spacious and modern, however the pillows were very uncomfortable.

  The staff at the desk were nice and helpful cannot complain about that, however our experience regarding the rooms was terrible. I travel a lot and I did not expect this sort of treatment…All 4 days we were there they did not clean the bathroom once or even at least hoover the room even though we kept it clean regardless, reported to desk after being out all day who said they would have a word but every day was the same. You might as well also bring your own pillow from home as the pillows are those flimsy square ones which made it uncomfortable to sleep with…Our walls had stains and over all it wasn’t a very pleasant experience and i’ve stayed in many hotels. I would not recommend.
