    One Night was too many

    rating01 Aug 2022

This was easily the worst hotel i have ever stayed in . I do a lot of travelling to Truck Shows all over the world and this was awful. Drab and dirty. The carpet stains were disgusting the bedrooms were so basic it was unreal and the shower would have needed cleaned before you even attempted to enter it. In need of a refub and new cleaning staff. Staff apart from the receptionist were so glum and when asked something they basically just grunted !!! Breakfast was awful. If you were not down early you got nothing. Very basic selection of breakfast and bacon looked like it had been sitting from the day before. I have nothing positive to say about this hotel except it was in lovely surroundings. Avoid it at all costs and it is way overpriced. Stayed at a hotel nearby which was way more cheaper and beautiful. Hotel ratings must be different in Holland as this was certainly not a four star hotel by any matter of means.

    One night stay was enough.

Clean but dark and dull hotel in need of a uplift. Comfortabel bed . Very basic. One towel each and shower gel, that's it ! No kettle or water to drink even let alone a shower cap. Poor restaurant service we had to go and ask for a drink . Poor breakfast, the fried breakfast looked unappetising and most of the sliced meat was gone so little left to choose from. Overheard staff saying it wasn't worth filling up there were only a few people to yet have breakfast. The hotel and cleaning staff (friendly)was ok but the catering staff looked miserable and couldn't be bothered. Reception staff need cheering up too . For the money we payed we expect more .

    Friendly but somewhat dated hotel

    rating25 Apr 2022

We enjoyed one night at the Fletcher hotel in Lhee, near Dwingeloo in Drenthe. The hotel is somewhat dated but this did not spoil our stay. The hotel matched the affordable price for staying at this hotel (75 Euro for a room for two, incl. breakfast). The rooms were small but clean and breakfast offered a variety of fresh and local food/drinks. Friendly staff who were attentive, we have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to those who would like to stay in the area.

Has potential, but needs some work.

Landhotel de Borken is a fairly nicely located hotel in rural Drenthe. Quite a nice starting place for longer (e-)bike rides through the surrounding villages, each with a plethora of terraces and restaurants. The remains of WW2 transit camp Westerbork and a number the famous dolmen ('hunebedden') are also easily within bike's reach. Its location makes for quiet nights, and the hotel populus was mostly 50+ when we visited. Lots of birds and the occasional cow can be heard. The hotel has a nice indoor swimming pool and an e-bike rental service. The restaurant is quite sufficient and not too expensive, and the staff, both hotel and restaurant, is overall calm and friendly. Breakfast is buffet-type, and though a full English breakfast isn't served, the selection of foods, the quality and freshness is all certainly adequate. The vast majority of rooms is located at ground level and the hotel therefore spans quite some area. Parking space is sufficiently large, mostly gravel and publicly accessible. Parking motorcycles is possible, but the heavier machine may require something under the jiffy for added stability.Rooms are tidy and sufficiently roomy, albeit a bit sparse. No safe of minibar, for instance. The level of maintenance sadly isn't always what you'd expect - the large sliding door to the room's terrace was just as easily opened from outside as from within: leaving valuables in the room, however always to be discouraged, would be very unwise. When we alerted the staff, we learned the problem was known and not unique for our room, however a quick solution was thought of by providing us the key to another room that -could- be locked, to store our equipment. The next day a serviceman mounted two hooks on the inside of the sliding door, solving the issue. But because the hotel grounds are publicly accessible (literally anyone can walk in a number of the rooms!) we consider this issue well worth mentioning. A clogged shower drain we reported was quickly fixed, but also indicates a little overdue maintenance.Wifi is free, quick enough but is insecure / public. No password of any sort is required, so be cautious when using social media, banking apps or any other potentially sensitive services on your wireless devices.
