Humiliating experience – avoidI booked two rooms directly on the hotel's website, one for me and one for my son and two of his friends. One of the friends vaped at the window. He immediately admitted it and made clear the other two had nothing to do with it.Despite this, all three young men were thrown out. My son and his friend, who had done nothing wrong, were not even allowed to shower. Staff told them, in substance, "we don't care, get out", and some employees were laughing at the front desk. No solution was offered.The neighbouring Hilton hotel (DoubleTree) then refused to accommodate them, without being able to show us any written rule justifying this.We felt discriminated against and treated with no respect at all. A sanction against the person responsible would have been understandable. Punishing innocent guests is not. A formal complaint has been sent to management.

Firstly the name of this hotel is unfortunate I never know what to call it. Is it Mainport (I think this is its old name ), no…maybe Haven Hotel, or possibly just Hilton? The location however is more straightforward, it’s not that near to the station, but being near the Erasmus bridge you a well located jump on a water bus or tram to get to where you need to go. The hotel describes its self as luxury. Not sure what that means exactly, however I would say it’s a modern well appointed hotel. I have been fortunate enough to stay in some very nice rooms here, often with nice harbor views. The bathroom is often a highlight here with separate shower and a jacuzzi style bath. Breakfast wise you get a good showing, I make allowances for the Dutch interpretation for a cooked breakfast where shards of slaty pork pass for bacon and cocktail sausage are presented where a Englishman would anticipate a full sized banger. There is however a chef who turns out tasty omelettes which I never miss out on. Also good selection of fruits at breakfast and cakes which the continental folk seem to go for.Only downside really is that without fail whenever I check in and out the staff always seem insistent on charging my credit card despite the booking being paid for and backed by a corporate booking allowance. I have been burnt by this process before having been wrongly charged and then not receiving full compensation, so my only advise is to resist handing over your personal credit card if you are already covered by a corporate booking.So this hotel could almost be a 4/5 but the staff mark it down slightly, I’d image it would be easy issue to fix.
