  Excellent Hotel

  08 Apr 2026

About Us: Family of three: Two adults and a five year old.Reason for Stay: Holiday in Netherlands for a week, using the rail network for day trips to different cities and towns.Utrecht: We chose Utrecht as it is central to the places with planned to visit. Hotel: Fabulous hotel. All of the staff were friendly and helpful during our stay. The use of the hotel apps was a convenient way to order more room amenities, as well as room service. The gym was good (for hotel gyms) and had a mix of cardio and weights and was stocked with water and towels. The room was a good size and had all the necessary comforts, including safe, fridge, kettle, tea and coffee, iron and ironing board. Would highly recommend the hotel to anyone visiting The Netherlands. Worst Hotel Experience I’ve Had – Avoid at All Cost!

  02 Apr 2026

NH Hotel Utrecht. A Complete Disappointment!I have stayed in many hotels around the world, but this was, without comparison, the worst and most unprofessional experience I have had. From arrival, things were off. No on-site parking, fair enough, but instead you are directed to an external provider charging €50 per day, located 5–7 minutes away. Add city tax and a €150 deposit on top, and the total cost quickly becomes unreasonable. To make it worse, staff even asked where I had parked in a investigating way, which came across as intrusive and inappropriate, as if the concern was not service, but control over where guests park. The first room had a broken air conditioning unit, making it uncomfortably hot. I had to change rooms late in the evening, more precise around midnight, after already unpacking. No real apology, no compensation. The second room was no better. Worn-out bed, uncomfortable, and a loud recurring noise every few minutes, making proper sleep impossible. The rooms in general are clearly run-down, with outdated and worn furniture.Wi-Fi is poor unless you pay extra for a premium upgrade. No streaming options on the TV either. To make matters worse, I damaged a shirt while ironing because the iron was clearly defective and had melted plastic on it. No compensation was offered – just a casual “sorry,” which says everything about the level of service. At checkout, they refused to release the €150 deposit until they had physically inspected the room. This kind of distrustful and arrogant handling of guests is frankly unacceptable. The hotel did attempt to offer a small discount on an extra night and a free breakfast, but this had to be pushed for and felt more like a token gesture than genuine service recovery.Honestly, I didn’t even bother taking photos for this review, it would be pointless. The problems are that obvious.Nothing about this stay lifts the overall impression. If anything, it confirms it.The only positive note: the bar staff, breakfast staff, and cleaning staff were friendly and did their job well. They deserve recognition.Everything else? This hotel is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Do not trust the reviews on their site, this experience felt misleading from start to finish. Roseanne Spaanstra, Guest Services / Front Office at NH Utrecht, responded to this review Dear Tobias Cromwell,Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback. We are sincerely sorry that your stay did not meet expectations and that the experience fell short of the high standards we aim to provide. We regret the inconvenience you encountered with your room change, comfort, and in-room amenities, as well as the impression created during arrival and departure.
