    Managers attitude stinks!

    Kia ora koutou I was scheduled to stay here at One88, to which everytime I have thoroughly enjoyed my stay there but yes we had a tangihanga (funeral) and meeting which ran late and past the scheduled time that the reception was closed. We arrived at the hotel and the reception was closed. We knocked on the door, to which the owner came down and he was not happy with us. We had apologised for being late and know it was late. We kept on apologising but he was not calming down.he constantly kept blowing up and continued to carry on. he finally got around to doing the keys but kept harping on about how he is not impressed with us. we continued to apologise and explain why we were late. By now things where getting ridiculous with how he was soo furious with us arriving late etc...He mentioned that we did this again to him the night before, We sai nope, we have only just arrived, he said, nope you arrived last night, to which we said nope, we are just getting here. Our team are just arriving now. He continued to be a clown about it! and he was adement that we arrived the day before, I said if this was the case why are we trying to get the keys from you!From then we decided to leave as we didnt want to be treated this way. He continued to yell out! I have the keys!!! Ive heated the rooms up!!!, nowe your leaving!!! and he got hōhā and steamed off. We left and returned home back to where we travelled from. SOme travelling far at least 2 hours etc. Anyway, I do like this Hotel, but not to be treated like this. He is the manager and he really needs and attitude change. Yes you may have enjoyed your previous stays and loved the Property and the Service that you always had. But that certainly went out the window when you decided to try and check in at Half Past Midnight after your Funeral and Meetings. Half past Midnight is 4 and a half hours after reception closed. Now it would appear that you had been in Whakatane since early evening and could have come and checked in before your "Funeral and Meetings" when the Motel Reception was Open. You could also have called and advised that you would be checking in late and we would have provided after hours entry instructions so you could go directly to your rooms and not wake up anyone at Half Past Midnight. In fact, an Elder advised me that She had told you that the Motel Reception closed at 8-00pm.Yes I had put your lights and heating on for you so you would not have to walk in to a cold dark Motel Unit, but I had no way of contacting You. You were part of 7 Guests in a Group and the Lady who acc ompanied You to Reception at Half Past Midnight was the Lady I had to contact the previous night because another member of your Group did not bother turning up, nor advising me she was not going to be arriving. I had to leave a message on Anna's cellphone tro advise her that I had no contact details other than hers, that one of her Guests had not arrived at the Motel, and could she advise her that Reception closed at 8-00pm.Anna finally called me back at 10-20pm to advise me that the Guest was not arriving. This is what I advised you when I spoke about the happenings of the previous night, but you thought I was talking about You.When I went in to the back office to get your Keys for You, You had made up your mind that you were going to go home and play the Martyr to the fullest extent.Four and a half hours is not arriving a little late, it is in fact waking someone up in the middle of the night when that person works a 13 Hour Day for 7 days a week and needs all the sleep they can get.I note that your other Tripadvisor Review is for Sky City in Auckland, a 24 Hour Hotel, which is far different from a provincial Motel in sleepy Whakatane.

    Disgusting and unacceptable

    I am pregnant and my grandmother passed away in Whakatane. I rung to enquire about booking a room for me and some of my family to stay. One of my family members is elderly so I asked if I could have a room on ground level. I can’t recall the man’s name but he has a thick Scottish accent and was extremely rude. After confirming there was a room available that met our needs I said I will make a booking through the website. He then said he could make the booking himself and towards the end asked for my card details. I said I didn’t want to give them over the phone. He then lost it and started shouting at me over the phone. I said I can pay tonight I will enter my details through the website and pay that way but he continued to yell about handling multiple cards and payments and never had he been questioned and that it was ridiculous of me not to trust him. He was telling that I’m not the boss and that were not going to do it your way we’re going to do it my way. I said I wasn’t comfortable and I can pay online he then continued shouting that I need to find somewhere else to stay. Absolutely disgusting service !! I’ve never been treated this way and can’t believe this man’s behaviour it is completely unacceptable. He shouted I’m deleting your booking you can’t stay here go and stay somewhere else. I then said thank you for your help and time taken I really wanted to stay here. He then mumbled something and hung up on me !! Absolutely disgusting you should be appalled with yourself Malcolm Glen, General Manager at ONE88 On Commerce, responded to this review Dear Patricia,Your version of this incident is vastly different from what actually happened. Firstly, our Reception closes at 8-00pm and you were not going to arrive until after 10-30pm. You wanted a specific unit which you could not select from an online booking agency. You refused to supply a valid Credit Card to secure your booking abd pre-pay your accommodation. Our Property requires that a booking made with us is secured using a valid Credit Card, again you refused to supply one. Your booking could therefore not be made and secured, but you did not want to hear what Our Rules were, just what Rules YOU wanted to play by. Fine, if you do not supply what is needed to make a booking, then no booking can be made. I was perfectly calm throughout the telephone call, it appears that it may have been You that was not being the rational one in this conversation.

    Best place to stay when visiting Whakatane

    Love staying here when we visit whanau in Whakatane. Room is kept to such a high standard and the team who work here are amazing. Special shout out to the housekeeping staff who maintain the rooms to such a high standard. Highly recommend staying here.

    From the warmest of welcomes, to the cleanliness and comfort of our accommodation and the supplies provided we were impressed. A great motel offering and good value too. We were shown to our rooms and given the guided tour of the facilities, which is rare these days, so we were off to a great start. We had chosen the ground floor following reviews - a good shout. A shame it was only one night - thank you everyone at One88!

    Awful customer service - angry and rude manager ruined our holiday.

    Would not recommend this accommodation - after traveling around New Zealand at many locations and meeting awesome customer service staff, this experience was the most disappointing - the worst customer service experience we have ever had. We wanted to walk away from this booking after experiencing such a negative encounter prior to checkin but nothing else was available. If we could’ve stayed somewhere else we would have. Malcolm Glen, General Manager at ONE88 On Commerce, responded to this review Dear Delia Wright from Australia,Thank you for penning what may be the most disingenuous review ever posted on Tripadvisor. To class the level of customer service you recieved as the worst you have ever experienced is a complete untruth. You took offence at being advised that your Room was not ready for you to get into, despite arriving over 90 minutes prior to Check In Time on one of the busiest times of the year. To use your own words, you told me that you were allowed to check in early to every Motel during your travels because you are an early riser and like to get to your next destination early. When you arrived back to the Motel at Check In Time, you were in a foul mood, but you and your Husband were still escorted to your room and given the Room Tour as all of our guests get. You totally ignored everything that I was explaining about the room facilities and I only had your Husband listening to me. Your judgement is so coloured that you have rated every aspect of the Motel so poorly, that your review stands out as being a biased review. How you can rate the quality of our rooms, which are some of the largest and newest in New Zealand as being only 2 out of 5 is beyond belief. In closing, sometimes the Customer is not always right, and this is one instance where You were most definately the one in the wrong.
