  There Must be Better Hotels in Timaru...

  We were on our way south, and needed somewhere to stop for the night, but were not at all happy with our choice. For some reason Timaru was very expensive that night; well over $200. The only good thing about our room was the size -- lovely and big, with lots of floor space. However, it's on a hill on the main road so vehicles are revving to get up, and lorries are using engine brakes to slow going downhill. We got very little sleep. As we were checking out we noticed somebody on the rowing machine in the gym -- vaping. It turns out this was the desk clerk. Safe to say we will not be back.

  Everything was going great till we checked out but about 1 hour later they rang and said I left my jacket behind. I forgot that I left both my jackets in the wardrobe. So the cleaner who cleaned our room stole my macpac jacket and handed in my light one. They said it was not there. I knew it was and went to the room with the office person and the hanger for it was still there and knew it was taken. So watch out as they have a thief working there.

  Friendly staff . But bedding not comfortable.

  The most important part of a hotel is good bedding. Lack of sleep due to poor bedding is not healthy for one’s body and mind . The bedding in our room was not up to the standard we are used to. The room was clean but lacked finishing touches. There are only 2 cups NO glasses to drink from . The curtains weren’t hooked up properly and coating missing of the bottom of the shower. The mini bar was stocked poorly with extremely high priced snacks . I compared some items in the mini bar with supermarket prices . So just bring your own snacks and unless you’re happy to pay over the top .

  First Looks are certainly deceiving!

  DATE OF TRAVEL: July 2023Stayed here for 3 days for a business trip. First impressions were.... disappointing. The hotel was empty, the chef was also at reception and the building looks run down. HOWEVER, check in was fast, the rooms were well appointed, if well travelled, and the bed was very comfy. Sadly I didn't get back to my hotel room until late night each night but the breakfast was fantastic and affordable. All the staff were super friendly, welcoming and accomondating. Room walls were thick as I didn't hear my colleagues in the other rooms at all, even when we were talking. Shower was great. Good pressure and the bathroom had all the basic amenities you would need for a regional motel.Though some people may not like it, the interestingly spaced corridors made the hotel feel like a rabbit warren and I actually quite enjoyed that.The gym was probably the best one I'd seen in all of my hotel stays in Canterbury. I was really impressed. Sadly it was closed before I left and when I came back so didn't get a chance to try it. It's only a few minutes away from the main restaurant strip of the town and the food at all of them was fantastic. Caroline Bay Beach is beautiful and I enjoyed my morning walks there. Would I stay again? Though I may never have a need to again, most definitely if the need did arise. First looks are certainly deceiving with this place but push through it and you'll find yourself a gem of a stay =)

  I stayed there for three nights. The place is sparkling clean. The greatest asset is the friendly staff. They are so accommodating and kind. Compliments to the cook for the lovely dinner. It was amazing to be greeted every morning by the front of house person with a big smile and a warm" Good morning"
