  Stayed two nights in gold room. Bed was comfortable. Full cooked Breakfast available and was delicious. Host extremely pleasant and helpful with recommendations for local restaurants and attractions. House is beautifully decorated in keeping with era of house.

  The name highway house doesn’t conjure charm or coziness, but this unique place is both charming, cozy, and more!I unintentionally booked a room with shared bath, but I never saw anyone else in the bathroom while I was there. My room, the gold room, was spacious and clean with a nice big window. There’s communal tea service in the hall and breakfast is served in the dining room downstairs. The hostess also allowed me to heat up a snack early in the evening before my penguin viewing, for which I was grateful.The house has wonderful original features and a beautiful garden. It’s lovely and just a few minutes drive from all the activities downtown. The gold room could use a table/desk or luggage rack as there aren’t many surfaces to put things, but otherwise it was perfect for a night!

  Wonderful place to stay

  This is a wonderful place to stay. Close to the city center, but far enough away from the bustle of it. Rooms are nice sized for a couple. Rooms are clean, as are the bathrooms. Bed was comfortable and lent for a solid night of sleep. It is on the corner with the main road, so some road noise can be heard. But it did not prevent us from sleeping soundly. Breakfast in the morning was more than ample, and delicious. We reserved a room with its own private bath; some rooms share a common bathroom. Front garden is lovely and adds to the charm of the place. The owner is just a warm and lovely person who provided a lot of information about what to do in and around town, festivities throughout the year, and an education for us on Steampunk.

  Sarah was a wonderful host. Her home was warm n cosy. The room had a cute attached bathroom. We had a good rest in the tastefully decorated room. The breakfast was splendid n very generous! More than we expected! Well done!

  Warm welcome and with fabulous room decoration. Room is very clean and their garden so beautiful. Excellent service for the room, plus breakfast! Home feeling place is here! I like to stay here again soon!
