    Centrally located, simple hotel.

    rating08 May 2026

This hotel provided adequate accommodation and breakfast provisions. It is located within walking distance of many sights but lacks character and the room, despite being 23m seemed smaller. It lacked little touches that could have made it much better, such as quality bathroom amenities (shampoo & conditioner) or barista coffee at breakfast. If you are driving, be aware that negotiating the parking area is very tight. Andrew Whittaker, General Manager at WQ Hotel (Wellington Quarter Hotel), responded to this review Kia Ora Miss Apples-Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay with us at the WQ Hotel in Wellington. Comfortable but inconsistent experience

    rating07 Mar 2026

For the price paid our stay was fine, however if it had been any more expensive I would have been very disappointed. While the beds were comfortable and the central areas were clean other aspects of the hotel were very dated and in need of some attention. The pictures taken to advertise the hotel didn’t tell the whole picture of unrenovated bathrooms, and shabby interiors. The breakfast was disappointing, with the food obviously not being refreshed and raising my concerns about food safety given the appearance of the food: overcooked eggs, dried out sausages and baked beans with a crust. Additionally at check in time there was only one person on the reception desk which resulted in a wait to check in. Staff were otherwise helpful and friendly. The hotel was similar to an ibis or other budget hotel but without the consistency of the experience. I’d recommend for short stays where you are spending time outside the hotel. Gave it another go. And that’s a no from me.

    rating04 Dec 2025

So I get some random message saying hey we’re new and better, and as I visit Wellington a couple of times a month decide to give this place another go. Regret! Not only had it not improved it’s got worse!! One life working. Expensive bar. Poor customer service with staff constantly confused. Poor information in the rooms. Promise of sky movies on the tv but no actual sky movies. I travel for work and all I want is a quiet drink at the end of the day and some mindless movie before I sleep. But limited needs aren’t met here. Last stay. This time I promise. Duncan Mackenzie, General Manager at WQ Hotel (Wellington Quarter Hotel), responded to this review Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I am very sorry to hear about your recent experience with us, especially after making the decision to give the hotel another try. This is certainly not the standard we aim to deliver, and I apologise that we fell short in several areas during your stay.Your comments regarding the lifts, bar pricing, staff confidence, in-room information, and Sky Movie access are concerning. I assure you these matters are being reviewed with our team. The lifts are currently being upgraded for maintenance purposes, We recently converted from SKY TV to Freeview unfortunately our supplier is still uploading the current settings on the Smart TV’s where Chrome Cast is freely available and Sky available in the Bar. We are currently working through some of operational and service improvements, and your feedback highlights areas that clearly require attention. As someone who travels often, you absolutely deserve a seamless, comfortable experience. I’m sorry that we did not meet your expectations on this occasion as we transition through this exciting new era of WQ.I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss your experience directly and restore your confidence in staying with us. Thank you again for bringing this to my attention and we hope to see you again in the New year.Kind regards,Andrew General Manager – WQ Hotel Wellington

    Extremely poor customer service

    rating13 Sept 2025

We stayed at Atura Wellington during the All Blacks vs Springboks game in September, as other options were unavailable. The hotel’s location near Sky Stadium was convenient, but unfortunately, the experience fell short.Upon arrival, we were greeted by an unwelcoming receptionist, who insisted each guest come to the counter to collect their key cards, despite our booking three rooms via Expedia. My room (508) was cramped, with no toiletries and an uncomfortable, tiny shower. The evening receptionist was more helpful, offering us a late checkout until 12:00 PM. However, the next morning, the same rude receptionist called, demanding we vacate or face a NZD 20/hour charge. After I mentioned the prior agreement, she abruptly hung up.Breakfast was disappointing, with missing items like bread, juice, and hashbrowns. The staff showed little interest in refilling. Only the barista was friendly and polite. At checkout, the same impolite receptionist made us feel unwelcome, sighing when we requested to store our bags for the day.In summary, the service was poor, and the hotel failed to meet expectations for the price. I would not recommend staying here. Duncan Mackenzie, General Manager at WQ Hotel (Wellington Quarter Hotel), responded to this review Dear Excursion Thanks for your review. Atura is embarrassing!

    rating26 Jun 2025

Basic. King bed very comfy. Noisy if your room is close to lifts, rumble is constant.Mobility access bathroom appreciated: its spacious, but absence of shower screen floods, entire room, pooling at door, which MUST be a health & safety flag? And then there was the flotilla of dark hairs on bathroom floor - we are both fair?Factor in greedy $28 overnight parking shock, and there are better Wellington stays on offer. As Wellington visitors, we were surprised at poor standards. Duncan Mackenzie, General Manager at WQ Hotel (Wellington Quarter Hotel), responded to this review Dear beeb841 Thanks for your review.
