Beautiful location with beautiful front garden. Very relaxing and the scent of liliac really made you feel amazing. We only stayed one night. The breakfast buffet was excellent with great variety and tasting very good. You can also purchase a breakfast take away bag with all the goodies for 245 NOK. Too bad we couldn’t take the strawberry smoothie and the ginger shots as they were very good. There are other restaurants for lunch and for dinner and they look nice. All three restaurants are in the middle of the hotel where the glass wall allows a beautiful view. We didn’t have lunch/ dinner at the hotel as it can be pretty expensive- not sure how much more expensive than the other restaurants in the area ( for comparison we paid for dinner for two- one dish each, and two beers 1160 NOK at another restaurant in Flam) The rooms have vintage furniture and design but everything was sparkling clean. The bathroom had hand soap instead of body wash, conditioner, and no shampoo. There is no plug in the bathroom so I had to use the one in the room and the mirror in the hallway. The beds were super comfy. We had a kettle, cups, glasses and some tea and instant coffee in the room. The staff was very nice and helpful. The location was surprisingly very quiet despite so much action happening in the area- the train station, the boats, the never ending group of tourists and the shops. All in all, we had a pleasant stay with great food, however we don’t think that the rooms are overpriced.

Disappointing overall service , they clearly know you have limited alternatives

The location is fantastic, it is described as having views of fyjords (that only applies when no cruise ships are there, otherwise they completely block the view) We had booked a superior room, it was basic at best. When I queried this, staff said that is what you booked! We could have slightly upgraded but then still wouldn’t have had a fridge or a safe. Everything in the room was a bit ‘tired’ and not all that clean , similarly the bathroom, old and tired. The evening meal, there was choice of dishes, but lots of complaints about the lukewarm dishes and service. Lounge areas were pleasant in design but again some very tired (grubby) furniture. Considering their captive audiences and income generated the service and amenities could and should be better There are limited options for staying in Flam, however I’m not sure I would recommend especially considering the cost

Fantastic location

This historic hotel is very conveniently located next to Flam train station and the Fjord port where boats depart for the fjord cruise tours and Bergen. Whilst not a fancy hotel, the room was quaint with a good view of the port. Everything in the room worked and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast and dinner were fantastic with very fresh and local ingredients being used. Friendly and helpful staff. On the downside, the decor of the hallways was a bit run down. It is also pricey, but given the remoteness, the limited number of hotels in the area and the Norway price point, I found the price acceptable. I've stayed at hotels in remote locations in other countries where there were several issues with the room. So from that perspective, this hotel offered fairly reasonable value for money, especially given the fantastic location.

Excellent

Wonderfully spacious room with sofa, two lounge chairs and a dining table. Washroom has heated floors. View is spectacular when there are no cruise ships in port. Breakfast was very good but crowded at peak times.

Disappointing hotel for a 4 star

The room was warm and the bed comfortable but power points close to the floor, poor lighting in the bathroom and unfriendly staff. Late checkout charges were unnecessary and herbal tea selections very limited. Breakfast staff were outstanding as was the breakfast spread.
