    The importance of 24hr reception

    rating17 Apr 2026

It's very difficult to rate the experience accurately. On the plus side: The rooms were spacious, the bed comfortable, the breakfast better than anticipated, all of the staff welcoming and lovely and the proximity ideal. On the negative side: The rooms were clean, but really needed a general deep clean, especially the shower heads, corners etc, and the carpets were well worn/discoloured. To enter the 'hotel', which shared space with a number of businesses and private dwellings, it was necessary to unlock the front door by using a keypad code. We failed miserably...twice! We are not total dinosaurs, but we are older and less tech savvy than other people. The reception area is small but the young man who greeted us was very pleasant and professional, as our rooms were not quite ready. Unfortunately, my friend's room was situated on the 2nd floor and mine on the 5th, at the front of the building.Again it was necessary to use a key code, this time 6 numbers! Thank goodness for mobile phones on which to save the number and instructions!Having been out for an evening meal we returned (again failing with the front door) and were fortunate to be let in by someone exiting the property.A huge negative is the inaccessiblity to a member of the hotel staff, after 7pm. I would never again choose a hotel without a 24 hour reception. Here's why.On the first night my TV didn't work. After breakfast I asked if it could be fixed and the reception staff went with me to check it out. It didn't work so she was going to get someone to sort it out while we were out. We had taken a trip to Auschwitz and didn't return to the hotel until after 9.30pm. This time we did manage the front door!I went to my room on the 5th floor, pressed in the key code, the mechanism made it's usual unlocking sound, but the handle would not open the door. This was the start of a very arduous attempt to get hotel support. I had no battery left on my phone.Using my friend's phone we managed to get an answer to our call...eventually...and the staff didn't believe I had done things properly to use the keypad. She asked us to return to my room...1 lift down, walk to lift at the front of the hotel, another lift up...and as we stated, it didn't work. She digitally changed the key code but that didn't work. We returned to my friend's room and waited while the member of staff contacted 'her manager' to see what to do. After 20 minutes or so we were instructed to go downstairs, fine a key lockbox, photograph the keys, identify the key to the reception office and go inside to fine another key box in order to use the master keys to the room. At this point we were horrified to find that the keys to my room were not on their corresponding numbered hook! The response on relaying that information was that they didn't really use the number system, and we found the keys elsewhere in the box. Back up to the 5th floor...no joy whatsoever. Back to my friend's room, where we awaited further instructions!Eventually, I was offered the room next door to my friends, so I had a bed for the night. No clothes, toiletries, my meds and phone charging cable though. After a sleepless night, and still in the previous days clothes, I waited for the reception staff to arrive...after 9am. We went back to my room and the door would not open. Eventually a man arrived to try to fix the lock. He opened the room for me to get all of my belongings and I returned to my new room, where the key code didn't work! It had been cancelled at 11am as I wasn't registered as being the occupant. After this exhausting process, we enjoyed the remainder of our day in the old town and experienced a Chopin recital in the evening. In this technological age, you wouldn't expect any of the above to happen, and if it did, you would hope that the hotel's management were more 'available' to assist you.The door lack mechanism was completely replaced!!!

Great location , big room , but not comfortable. Oh , tram just gone by again.

A big nice room , in a good location….buyThe bed is poor, the pillows and quilt awful, and the noise from next door constant. Clean , and big,,, nice decor, but I’ve not enjoyed it. Can’t work the TV , no instructions, just guess work.

We arrived at the accommodation around 5 hours before check in. I had emailed the hotel prior to arrival. Once in (did not receive any codes, was let in by someone else) staff were friendly and let us check in early. The accommodation is average. I would not say 4 star at all if anything 3 star at a push. If you are not spending much time in the hotel then stay there. Cheap for location. Carpets either need to be changed or a good clean. Marks all over the walls so looks dirty. Towels are tiny. Bathroom is ok, but there is black mould in the silicone. Beds were comfortable, you do only get one pillow. It’s ok, if you are not bothered about staying somewhere fancy then it’s fine to sleep there.

    Steer clear GRIM

    rating20 Sept 2025

Ignore the lovely pictures, this place is grim. From our experience, the pictures do not correspond with what we saw.We had a 4 night stay booked and left after one and booked into a letter hotel.Upon arrival we hadn't been given the code to get in so locked outside, rang number on door, took ages to answer and give us the code.We did not see any staff as it wasn't manned when we were there which in fairness wasn't long. When we did get in and entered the room we were shocked, first the smell, could be bad for someone's health, then turned lights on and the carpets were disgraceful, filthy was too good, worn, black and smelly. The bathroom looked clean but had a pungent smell, closer inspection wasn't too good, half used toilet roll on hanger, not a good start. Pillows were like a wafer, not fit for purpose, beds uncomfortable and black lamp shades with one bulb not working made the place depressing. All in all, I would not house an animal here, disgusting that they ask for payment and booking .com sell this.We booked into another hotel for rest of stay which was wonderful. Hindsight a good thing but dont make same mistake as us and steer clear of this place.

    Couple stay - September 2025

    rating16 Sept 2025

Me & my partner have just returned from a 4 night stay. Before arriving we were sent a message with all the codes to enter the building and our room. The location is fantastic a 10 minute walk to the old town and train station, it’s really quiet despite the trams running all day/night. The room looked lovely, there was a note saying about all the charges if anything was broken/damaged. One said about charges for stains on the carpet, which in our room were lots. I took pictures and we went and told the receptionist. There was also sick from the previous guests next to the bed and on the wall. We were offered to move rooms and given a bottle of wine as an apology. The beds are really comfortable and the shower was amazing! The breakfast was ok, hot & cold drinks. Breakfast items kept in hot plates but were only warm. Plenty of cheese and cold items. The only issue we had was, we left our baggage with them on the last day when we went back to collect at 4pm there was no one there. Another guest trying to check in managed to get hold of them and we were told they would be there in 40 minutes. They did give us the code to the key safe so we could enter the office as we couldn’t wait 40 minutes. These apartments have lots of live in residents and I can only assume rent out empty ones, so not really geared for tourists. There is never anyone around if you do need anything.
