We were given a great, spacious room with balcony overlooking the garden/pool area. The bed and bedding were excellent for a good nights sleep. The bathroom clean and a good size although the shower pressure wasn’t great. There are multiple common areas throughout the pousada with sofas, chairs, tables and even a games room. So, plenty of space if you want to get out of your room. Breakfast was a well organised buffet with a good selection but not over-catered given the limited number of guests. Being December, we didn’t use the outdoor pool but it looked a great space for summer. Old town is a fairly comfortable 10 minute downhill walk. Plenty of parking right outside the hotel. Recommended

We really enjoyed this hotel. The room was large with a great bed and very quiet. Staff are very friendly and go out of their way to help with anything. The whole site is worth exploring with fascinating things to see. The pool area is lovely. Parking is free

Brilliant choice of a hotel stay in a castel.

Portuguese government rebuilt many castles and renamed them Pausada as a move to utilise these heritage places. This is one of them, but now run by a private company. We visited the Pausada Palmela for comparison and found this much better place to stay.This castle/hotel has 35 rooms, all rooms are huge and with lots of space. It had a balcony overlooking the town. The hotel is huge and is surrounded by the old castle wall. Some parts remain near the swimming pool to remind you that it is a castle.We loved the many nooks and corners within the hotel where you can find a quiet place to catchup or send messages without too many people around (unlike our other hotels in Sintra and Porto). Passages and lounges filled with memorabilia from the past, and matched with modern furniture. The hotel is a 30min walk down or up to the town below. I must say something about the town, it straddles a river and has many places to dine and shop. A very convenient nearby location. It is worth spending a few hours along the river and bridges for photography and dining. We had hired a car and it was easy to buzz around the town and the outskirts. Free parking at the hotel.Helpful receptionists, 24 hrs serviceRooms come with daily buffet breakfast and what a spread: sparkling wine, fresh juices, jams, butter, all types of bread rolls, cold cuts, cheeses, yoghurt, freshly prepared eggs. cereals and sweet breads. I enjoyed the the freshly cut smoked pork leg on plain toast !A must stay in Portugal in this small town but with a big castle / hotel.

An excellent welcome from the reception and then directed to a small restaurant 5 minutes away whilst our room was being prepared. It was comfortable and quiet and the buffet breakfast was fine...although the toasters never seem to function well anywhere and you end up with hard un-toasted bread...this needs attention! It would be nice to see the castle utilised more, with perhaps market stalls and various events for day trippers to the area. It looks as if it is currently used for Conferences and Weddings, but they could do so much more! There really is nothing much in the area. The river and views are of course beautiful.

An amazing hotel with outstanding service

This is a very unique hotel steeped in history. A former convent converted very tastefully and situated above the Sado river. From arrival and check in to departure the staff were friendly, very helpful and super attentive. Rooms are clean and spacious , with balcony views. We didn’t dine in the hotel but walked into the village for a wonderful meal in a red called Momento . Worth visiting
