This castle pousada is marvelous. History everywhere you turn. Friendly helpful staff, amazing breakfast, sweet swimming pool. The tower was a great spot to climb for sunrise and sunset views. The church just next door had a beautiful Easter Sunday service with Portuguese guitar. The hotel was comfortable, beautiful, and in a marvelous hilltop location for views that extended 360 degrees. We had a little snafu with the room (wanted a twin, but that didn’t get into the reservation information) and they moved us as soon as they had a room open up.

Dangerous Bathroom

Avoid room 206 in this hotel. The bathroom is so small and cramped that it is difficult, to the point of dangerous, to attempt to access the shower over the bath. It's an accident waiting to happen. Ludicrously, there is so little space that you cannot sit straight on the toilet but must incline at an angle to find a gap for your knees. This is a very old building and the bathrooms are different sizes and shapes.As we were on a tour, the bathroom became an item of interest for other tour members. One of them kindly allowed us to use their bathroom the following morning.Our excellent tour leader insisted that the desk manager himself come up to the room and demonstrate how to get into the shower. It was quite a show and he admitted that it was not easy.Management declined to take any action, claiming that the hotel was fully booked. They did admit however, that issues have been raised with this room before.

Historic Hotel With Antique Objects

Hotel is 7 minute walk from town center where every Saturday morning a large market is held. The market allowing a couple to obtain a very local experience.

Stunningly beautiful

This poussada is stunningly beautiful. Reception was very kind. We had booked a suite, room 122.Very large bed room and separate sitting room with beautiful view. Very nice marble bath room.Decoration very cosy with ample difused lightning. Bed very comfortable.Restaurant outstanding. Very nice food and nice service. Unfortunately there was a large group of people that made a hell of a noise, so much that we asked the staff to intervene. The staff did intervene and the group was a little more quiet.During the entire night we heard strange sounds as if somebody was throwing furniture through the rooms upstairs or downstairs. Impossible to sleep. We thought it could be staff working or a movement of the roof structure. After talking to the staff it appeared that a door of a balcony downstairs had been left open by other clients that contineously moved with the wind.Other than that this poussada merits a detour

A Great Place to Stay in Estremoz

We were a group of 8 cycling through the Alentejo region and our bike tour company chose this castle for our stay in Estremoz. We loved it! The building is historic and beautiful. Our room was extremely comfortable with a big king bed. Our bikes were kept in a beautiful outdoor courtyard which our room looked onto and we had drinks out there each day after our ride. The outdoor pool is very attractive but the water was very cool at this time but actually it was good for soaking our tired legs after cycling long distances. We dined at nice restaurants within walking distance and found Estremoz to be a very attractive town. The castle is in a good location for getting around and the staff were very friendly and helpful. And breakfasts were excellent.
