Beautiful place, stay away from the restaurant

  03 Jul 2026

We stayed here for one night , the old monastery , pool , room and surroundings were amazing, worth the trip itself. The service at the reception was good, the problem was the restaurant. Dinner was very high priced , main dish ( steak) and wine was good but overpriced. Service was terrible, grumpy waitress and they didnt have many of the options in the menu. My daughter has gluten intoleranse, we called 2 times in advance but still there was no gluten free options in the menu, the only thing she could eat was biff with chips, we asked for a salad in the side and the waitress made a problem out of it because that was not part of the menu. Main courses were ok but very bad service in general. We were also charged for a dish we didnt order. I had to complain to get it sorted out. Breakfast was fine, quality products, not a lot to choose but good cheeses, ham and a lot of pastery. Unfortunately and again they didnt had any gluten free options for my daughter, just a very dry gluten free white bread in a plastic quite impossible to eat, no cake , no pastery , no gluten free cereals, nothing. Very disappointing specially when we called 2 times in advance. I expected much more from a 5 star rated place at a relative high price. The main problem was the lack of care and interest in making this a good experience for my daughter, children with allergies and intoleranses should be given options in a 5 star rated hotel. Fantastic historic building

  09 Feb 2026

This is an excellent Pousada. All the staff we encountered were super friendly and helpful. Despite being very well adapted to being a hotel, there is still the feel of entering a true medieval castle when you arrive and head through massive gates and vaulted rooms on your way to reception. We stayed in the new wing as we were after comfort, space and a balcony with a view and we weren’t disappointed. Our room was spacious, light and had a couple of chairs from which to admire the view out over open fields. Breakfast was to the usual high standard at a pousada with some variety each day in the hot options, cheeses, cakes etc. An excellent stay although there's nothing else of much interest around nearby. Highly recommended. Our only regret was that we hadn’t booked to stay a little longer. Great place for a short stay

  12 Dec 2025

We stayed here in May of 2025. It is a beautiful old monastery with renovated rooms. We stayed in the upper balcony suite that had a beautiful view. There isn't much around this location but it was the perfect stop for us on our way from Porto to the Algarve coast. The pool was perfect for relaxing, we had a lovely lunch, and the staff were wonderful, albeit very overworked! We both had steak for dinner and it was less than stellar - far less steak and more eye of the round roast? The waitress didn't know what kind of steak it actually was - and it wasn't specified on the menu. The breakfast buffet was lovely. Highly recommend staying at this location, especially if just for a night or two. I wouldn't recommend a long stay here, and be advised it is not disability accessible.

  Wonderful and memorable experience

  09 Sept 2025

Historic and charming, it provides its guests with a memorable and enchanting experience. The staff, with their professionalism and charisma, make all the difference, highlighting the excellent service a guest expects. The little treat left in the room met all expectations.A good breakfast to sweeten the day and a delicious dinner, I will definitely repeat this experience. To complete the experience, I recommend a deep relaxation massage that melts away all the tiredness and stress. Wonderful.Congratulations to the entire team for their excellence.By: Varela Manager Crato, Gerente geral at Pousada Mosteiro Crato, responded to this review Dear Mr./Mrs. Tour40271157811, On behalf of our entire team at Pousada Mosteiro Crato, we would like to thank you for taking the time to provide us with your positive feedback.
