Location

This family resort hotel enjoys a peaceful location close to the fishing village of Alvor. The centre of Alvor is just 1300 m away, and shops, nightclubs, bars and restaurants can easily be reached on foot. The nearest beach is 1500 m from the hotel. Public transport departs from a stop located some 600 m from the hotel, which is 60 km from the airport.

Facility

Guests have a choice of 150 apartments located in two 2-storey buildings with lifts. The reception desk in the lobby is staffed round the clock. Amenities include a baggage storage service, a safe and a currency exchange service. Wireless internet access is provided in public areas. The apartment hotel offers a range of facilities for guests with disabilities. Wheelchair-accessible facilities are available. Film fans will find plenty of 'lights, camera, action' at the cinema. A number of shops, including a supermarket, are great for shopping or just browsing. The grounds of the hotel feature a playground and a lovely garden. Additional amenities include a newspaper stand, a TV room and a playroom. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the car park. Further services and facilities include a babysitting service, a childcare service, a transfer service, a laundry service, a hairdresser and a hotel shuttle bus. A bicycle hire service provides all the necessary equipment for exploring the surrounding area.

Rooms

Air conditioning and central heating ensure that rooms maintain comfortable temperatures. A balcony is included as standard in some rooms. Extra beds can be requested. A safe provides secure storage for guests' personal property. The kitchenette comes with a refrigerator, a microwave and a tea/coffee station. There is also a washing machine and an ironing set. Other features include a telephone, a TV and WiFi (no extra charge). Bathrooms include a hairdryer and are equipped with a shower and a bathtub. For extra comfort in the bathrooms, guests are offered cosmetic products. Guests can also book wheelchair-friendly rooms with wheelchair-accessible bathrooms. The hotel has family rooms, 150 non-smoking rooms and smoking rooms.

Sport

Guests can work out or just relax in the outdoor and indoor pools. Kids can splash about in a special swimming area just for them. A short break or an entire afternoon on the sun terrace, which features sun loungers and parasols, is time well spent. There is a poolside snack bar as well. A variety of activities are available at the apartment hotel, for example cycling/mountain biking, fishing and horse riding or, for a fee, tennis and golf. Indoor facilities and activities also include a gym and table tennis or, for a fee, billiards. Additional leisure activities include an entertainment programme, a kids' club, a dance club and a casino.

Meals

Dining facilities include a breakfast room, a café, a bar and a pub. The non-smoking restaurant provides high chairs for children. Catering options include bed and breakfast, half board and all-inclusive. Breakfast, lunch and a dinner à la carte delight guests with culinary treats and a wide variety of dishes.

    Planned a ski trip to Tahoe and didn’t really put much research into accommodations but I was blown away by the lake front beauty Beach Retreat offers. The room was cozy and clean and the main lobby had a locker to keep my skis and boots in, great value since a lot of resorts charge extra for that. Also can’t leave out how friendly and attentive the front desk team was! Definitely need to visit here again during the summer :)

    I was trying so hard NOT to write this review bc I don't want to be bitter about my wedding in any way. BUT- I'm actually still pretty upset. I'm very specifically leaving a review for my wedding that was held at Beach Retreat in Aug 2025. First, the venue director/coordinator were not very personable or detail oriented, nor did they keep track of my requests. I had to ask multiple times for things to change. Communication would also take 1-2 weeks per email. The actual wedding had no rain contingency plan and it poured up until 40 mins before the wedding. Multiple people told me the food was cold from the caterer, people working the event didn't seem happy to be there. The bartender was great, but we only had 1 for open bar- open bar is a complete waste of money there's no way enough drinks were served to make that worth it. The venue gave my family heirlooms back to another bride that weekend and I still have yet to receive them back. I think this place could give a crap about me. Completely over priced for what you get. I had a good time at my wedding, but the people I had to deal with here left the most bitter taste in my mouth about weddings. I would say if you have any money to spend on your wedding, go elsewhere. I wouldn't recommend.     This is a must stay. I have been going to this wonderful hotel for years and my family. Very clean rooms, excellent staff. Friendly and helpful. Beautiful views. Too bad they are shutting down October 29.     Adequate room with comfy bed, fridge, decent size TV, coffee maker, ironing board, and iron. Two chairs and a small table in the room. Two tables on the deck.We had a room that faced the water. Which was lovely in September. Many of the rooms are facing the pool or the parking lot. Our room was fine in September because it was right next to the tiki bar that closed at sunset, which was around 7:30 PM. I can imagine that in the summer when sunset is later, the tiki bar would go much later into the night and may bother some people who are in this location.Pros - some people may actually love the tiki bar. There is a pool and small hot tub that conceit probably about six people. Every night they offer free s’mores kits around their fire pits. When I say Free though I also must mention that there’s a $35 resort fee so these aren’t exactly free.Cons - we were here for four days and three nights. Not once did the Wi-Fi work. When I called the front desk to ask about the Wi-Fi, they told me that “sometimes they have problems give it 10 minutes”. Again the Wi-Fi never worked so if you plan on needing Wi-Fi, this is not the hotel for you. I’m including a photo of the message we got, every time we try to get onto the Wi-Fi.Final note - this lodge is on the beach but beach chairs are only rentable for $20 each. If you live within driving distance, it would be best for you to bring your own chairs.     I wouldn’t recommend staying at Beach Retreat and Lodge based on our recent experience. When we checked in, the bathroom had a strong, unpleasant odor. Unfortunately, management informed us that housekeeping couldn’t be sent because cleaning hours were over, leaving us waiting over four hours and even then no one came to clean up. While the location is nice, the service and responsiveness left a lot to be desired. There are better-managed options in South Lake Tahoe worth considering.
