Good value hotel with a few minor issues

    rating15 May 2026

I stayed here for 3 nights in May for my best friends hen do and overall had a really good experience. I had 2 apartments booked with 3 people in each room. The rooms were clean, the beds were comfy, and each apartment had 2 single beds plus a sofa bed. It was everything I needed it to be for my short stay. There’s a nice pool area at the back of the hotel and when we went there were enough loungers available, although I imagine it probably gets busier in peak season. One thing that confused us slightly was that the hotel advertises a pool at the front in some photos, but that actually belongs to a different hotel. The apartments also had cooking facilities, so if you wanted to cook during your stay it would definitely be possible. I booked on a room only basis and didn’t use the bar or restaurant, so I can’t comment on the food in the hotel.Check-in was straightforward, although they were quite strict (understandably) with the rules and gave us a stern “no partying” warning along with “don’t push your friends off the balcony,” I wouldn’t say the reception staff were the friendliest, but they were fine overall and we didn’t have any major issues. One thing worth mentioning is the €300 cash deposit that people mention in the reviews — this is correct. I actually emailed the hotel beforehand to confirm it myself. There was also a tourist tax of €2 per person, per night. I’d definitely recommend videoing your room when you arrive just to protect yourself in case there are any disputes about damage later on.We had no issues getting our deposit back, but the checkout process was a bit confusing. The lady at reception told me to take a seat while they checked the room, and after waiting around half an hour I still hadn’t heard anything. I went back to the desk myself and was told I hadn’t handed over the white slip of paper, even though I had. In the end, it turned out her colleague had already processed the refund and it was just under the desk, and I did get all my money back. However, I wasn’t given an apology for the long wait, and I do think it could have been handled better. I also spoke to two girls staying on their own who said they didn’t have to pay a deposit, so it might be worth emailing the hotel in advance to confirm if this applies depending on the number of guests in the room. One thing I think is worth mentioning for anyone with mobility issues is that the shower is over the bath which was very high, so you had to be careful getting in and out as it was quite a big step. The shower itself also needs sorted as the temperature constantly changed from piping hot to freezing cold, which got really annoying. I also think another mirror in the room would be helpful, especially when multiple people are getting ready at the same time. The location worked well for us. You can walk into the New Town from the hotel, and Ubers into the Old Town were cheap — around €6 total, which worked out at about €1 each between 6 of us. I’d definitely recommend downloading Uber before you go because it was really handy and drivers arrived very quickly. The Uber from the airport to the hotel was around €40 and it was about a 35 minute drive.I’ve stayed in Albufeira before directly in the Old Town, but I still thought this hotel was a good option and I’d stay again. This time I booked through Love Holidays and paid around £220 for the flights and the hotel for 3 nights, so overall I do think you’re getting what you pay for. It’s not luxury, but for the price I thought it was good value and suited what we needed for the trip.

    Underwelming for the money

    rating11 May 2026

The hotel at first glance looks impressive at the reception but genrally is very dated. The rooms are quite big and can sleep 3 but again dated.Air con worked well decent TV .The shower was powerfull but alternated between baltic and lava constantly. The Breakfast room had a poor selection and we did wonder what was in the warm locker of mystery meats. One thing to note they require 300 euro cash deposit which isnt made clear until you arrive so bang goes your spending money.

    Group holiday

    rating10 May 2026

Stayed here for a group holiday recently, really good location to both old & new town. Rooms are equipped with everything you need. Pool has loads of sun loungers. Only small fault in room is the unreliable shower.

    Good enough hotel

    rating17 Apr 2026

Just back from a girls trip to Albufeira. Reviews of this hotel are a little harsh, in my opinion. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. A little bit of a language barrier with some staff but not a huge issue and easy to get across what you need. Pedro on the bar was wonderful. The hotel lobby is lovely, well presented and modern. The rooms, yes are a little dated, however we were barely in our rooms and simply needed somewhere to sleep and get ready. The beds were comfortable and good size. Plenty of storage space for clothes. We struggled with plugs, luckily we took an extension lead. Keep in mind if you're running hairdryers/straighteners and need a mirror close by.The cleanliness was okay, the floors were dusty and not the cleanest. The shower was a little problematic in that it went from hot to cold constantly. It was difficult to get the right temperature despite a mixer tap.We were pre warned about the €300 cash deposit (they will accept GBP) but no issues with getting it back, once they had checked the rooms over. It is a hotel to book for a family holiday? I would say not, given it's a 5 minute walk from the strip and a budget hotel which will be popular with groups. They absolutely cater for families, but do not be surprised with the noise etc if you do book here given the above. You book at your own risk.We were a group of 9 girls, we were respectful, quiet and had no problems at all. In all a pleasant stay. Did what it said on the tin. Not 4 Star

    rating14 Apr 2026

This is not a 4 Star hotel. I recently stayed here with a group of friends and I would not recommend. Positives - Room was clean - Sheets were fresh and bed was comfortable. - Shower was strong and warm. - location is good. Negatives - Dated furniture / Kitchen- Staff were not very accommodating, the younger guy at reception was nice. The older lady is very abrupt. - €300 CASH deposit to be left on the room. We left €300 and later realised that there was £280 returned. Someone was short changed somewhere. - First night there was loud constant noise in our room. And then louder sounds around 6am I thought there must have been a laundry room next door. It was extremely loud and no one in our group could sleep. I complained to reception and they moved us to another room which was very appreciated. - £20 charge for a towel that was not ours. At reception when my friend was checking out the receptionist showed her a slightly marked towel that had some tan marks on it. The charge was accepted. However another member of our group was sitting outside the room and as we returned from reception the man was collecting our dirty towels as we stood there. Therefore it was impossible for that towel to be belonging to us. I think they must have a few towels under reception that they use to get ££ out of people. A good detergent would sort those marks out. - We were only given 2 large towels for 3 people and were told we could not have any more. Appears to be an obsession with towels. I would consider other hotels in the area, and would not recommend booking this. Luna Hotels, Marketing at Luna Hotel Da Oura, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you for your detailed feedback. We’re pleased to hear that you appreciated the cleanliness, comfort of the beds, shower quality, and our location. However, we are truly sorry that your overall experience did not meet expectations.Regarding your concerns, we take them very seriously. The deposit process has been reviewed, and we would like to clarify that the difference mentioned in the returned amount corresponds to the €20 charge for the towel, applied according to our policy regarding damaged items. We apologise for any confusion this may have caused. We also regret the inconvenience caused by noise during your first night and are glad we were able to relocate you promptly. Your comments about our team have been noted, as providing a welcoming and helpful service is a priority for us, and we will address this internally.Your feedback is very important to us and helps us improve.Kind regards,Luna Hotel da Oura Team
