    1st family holiday

    rating18 Oct 2025

Upon arriving for check-in no-one was at reception just a note posted on the door to ring for keys. Rooms are very spacious but a little outdated which we didnt mind. I would say it is not geared for families we went with children who were told not to splash in the pool nor allowed balls🙄 bearing in mind we where the only people around the pool. As seen in pictures there is a pool table which is no longer there. Kids had very little to do. Our room had an ant infestation which was dealt with promptly. Beds are soo uncomfortable, no air conditioning so had to sleep with windows open, which let in other insects.Beds where changed once in the 2 weeks we stayed. Children ended up with burns from whatever was put in the pool every night. Upon check out at 6am no-one there to check us out, told the night before just to leave key on the table in apartment. Felisbela M, at Varandas do Atlantico, responded to this review Thank you mrs Jeannene for your review despite not being very positive it is important to us.On arrival you had a telephone number to contact and in a few minutes a member of the staff was with you to check you in. What can be considered as outdated is actually quite valuable furniture, handmade, normally very appreciated, but tastes are personal.About the use of the swimming pools and not being allowed to splash or to play with balls, it is quite normal in the different hotels or complexes of apartments all over as there are rules for the well being of all the clients that are staying, not forgetting the danger of slipping and being injured because of the water on the pavement and last but not least wasting precious water. The infestation of ants was due to the garbage left in the kitchen, as soon it was taken and the garbage was left outside of the apartment there was no more problems with ants. The apartments do not have air condition but, in October there is no need for air condition as the weather is quite mild and having the inside doors open and the outside shutters open is enough to have the right temperature; as to having other insects because of the doors open it is a common thing to happen, the Algarve region is known for being hot and dry which makes normal to have different insects all year around. And do not forget to go to the Reception and inform what is happening instead of contacting your travel agency, the staff can try to help you quicker as soon as they are informed.Despite the reasons you presented as to not having a pleasant stay, thank you for coming and staying at Varandas do Atlântico.

    Great apartments

    rating28 Sept 2025

The apartments are really spacious. Our apartment no.14 was on the ground floor and very clean. Plenty of hot water, beds comfortable. Kitchen area was good but cooking facilities were poor, just 2 ring electric hob & microwave. TV worked but only Sky political news or Comedy Central was available in English. Our side was overlooking a dual carriageway, which was noisy at times. Little patio area which was fine as there was a big enclosed veranda. Pool area was very nice. We were there towards end of Sept’25, plenty of places to lay by the pool if needed. 3 pools, 1 kiddie pool & 2 250m pools. The bar run by Ana & her husband was small but adequate that time of year. Ana was an excellent host. Bar snacks/food available. Reception is small. Staff we dealt with there were nice. One even offered to carry our suitcases upstairs when we were leaving at 0230! Cabs were reasonable. This was our first visit to Portugal, unfortunately Albufeira wasn’t for us, being OAP’s, so we wouldn’t stay here again. There’s a supermarket within 5mins walk, well stocked. Marrakech restaurant opposite is quite nice with views across Albufeira. There’s a burger bar close by, but it wasn’t our cup of tea. There is a local bar about 10mins walk away which was quite nice. We walked around the area to find other bars & restaurants but there were none to be found, apart from hotels maybe. The walk into the Old Town takes about 30-45mins. Loads of restaurants & bars, you could say, too many!! Albufeira is known for being a hen & stag destination, which we did see a lot of. One group of about 10 men, all old enough to know better, made you ashamed to be English. We will not be going to Albufeira again, although there are other resorts that are far better, according to friends who live in Portugal. It’s a shame as Verandas do Atlanticas is a good complex. Having said that, when we left at 0230am, there were quite a few people partying on their terraces/verandas, they were on holiday after all but not what we want to hear when we’re on holiday. Felisbela M, at Varandas do Atlantico, responded to this review Thank you for your review, it was a pleasure having you staying with us. Hopefully you still come to the Algarve as Albufeira didn't "swept you out of your feet".

    Good apartments

    rating02 Aug 2025

The staff here were consistently friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. The apartments themselves were very spacious, offering plenty of room to relax. The location is convenient — it takes about 20 minutes to walk to the Old Town, and around 30 minutes to the marina, although that walk is a bit more challenging. That said, Ubers are very affordable: roughly €3 to the Old Town and €4 to the marina. There were a couple of downsides. Some guests were very noisy late at night, which made it difficult to sleep on several occasions. Also, there’s no Wi-Fi available in the apartments — it’s only accessible in the bar and pool area. This wasn’t clearly mentioned on the EasyJet website. Additionally, the property is advertised as 4-star accommodation, but it’s actually rated 3 stars on arrival.Overall, the apartments were good, but during the six-week peak period, the price felt a bit high for what was offered.

    €200 per person deposit

    rating30 Jul 2025

So we arrived at the hotel and there was 5 of us total, we went to the front desk where we were met by the receptionist who seemed very rude ( I think because were younger so it was assumed we would be trouble/loud). I booked through EasyJet as a package deal and was only informed of tourist tax, so you can imagine our surprise when it was sprung on us that we had to pay €1000 euro deposit between us. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous that you pay that much for ONE apartment, not even separate ones. It was completely inconvenient for us as we are students and we had to take this out of our spending money that we’d saved. We then were worried as she said it would affect our deposit if we got a noise complaint, we’re quite respectful anyways but i couldn’t understand why this would be included as i thought it was only towards damages for the apartment. We was showed to the apartment, it was quite nice inside and we had pots, plates and cutlery, the balcony was quite spacious as well. The only problem is, theres no air-con or fans in the room so some days we woke up sweating because of the heat. The bathroom window also didn’t open so it got very steamy while showering. The apartment photos provided online on easyjet looked quite outdated but it was actually quite nice and spacious. When we left we was also informed our deposits would be back in our accounts instantly- a few hours. 3 days later and we still hadn’t got our deposits back, i then emailed and we then received it the next day. We did panic after seeing a review of someone not getting their deposit back, but we did end up receiving ours. Felisbela Martins, Diretor-Geral at Varandas do Atlantico, responded to this review Thank you very much for your comment! My name is Felisbela Martins, I am the Manager and if I am not mistaken I was the "rude" one that checked you in.Deposits on stayings are common all over the world [myself included have given it and I'm not in the "young one" category anymore (in spirit yes)], providing the information that should be givem by the ones that sell the holidays/packages is always a job that is not pleasant, trust me!The comment that you read about another client not receiving the deposit back is not accurate, her bank kept the 200€ retained for the reasons they provided and it didn't had anything to do with us "Varandas do Atlântico" or the Portuguese Banking System. She has already been able to use her money but didn't find necessary to come to TripAdvisor and update the first information written. All the best for you and your friends.
